Loving the game so far, and VATS is great (hilarious also if you get some good shots), voice acting is much improved also as you dont have the same voices for everyone. No issues with hardware or frame rate etc. Only negative thing(s) i can say about the game is that the NPC AI pathfinding is a bit dodgy (i.e NPC's bumping and walking into each other and not moving out of the way) and Melee in VATS isn't as good as with guns. Also what i like is that the game is genuinely tough, even on normal, as in its not frustratingly tough but you can run out of bullets very quickly and then rely on other means of fighting or escaping. Iv ran out of bullets many times and had to rely on mines, grenades and my sledgehammer to get me out of tough situations :)

Otherwise the game is fantastic and the atmospheric feel of the wasteland & draw distance is amazing. Only about 9 hours in but i have my minigun ready :D

I really want to pick this game up today as I love RPGs but Oblivion was ruined by scaling monsters. Have they implemented this in Fallout?

Do any of you think this is more worth a purchase than lets say a weeks rental?? I could buy it on Monday but I really really want to play it today!

No i ran into two super mutants early on just after going into the Dead Village thingy or whatever they called themselves, had feck all ammo, 3 grenades a baseball bat and spiked knuckle dusters. I loved it but man it was tense

It is there to a degree, but its more complex than that. From what I've heard, the enemies scale with you but not in a linear fashion. Also if you enter a region it locks that region, so you can go back later at your super awesome level and kick the living ****e out of anyone there.

For example, if you are a level 8 pornstar(hey it could happen in fallout 2!) and you enter Porn falls. There are level 7 gigolos there after your blood (and probably other...things). You away screaming and spend a few hours popping caps into everything that moves or doesnt move. You reach level 15 and they are still at 8 When you come back, you've got all the fancy moves and they dont stand a chance.

Whew, got a bit carried away there.

Im nearly level 9 but as far as i can see there is no scaling. Yes you do meet new monsters but you also see the old ones as well (the first monsters dont get stronger etc as you level up). Basically an enemy is tough depending on its weapon (if its a humanoid), for example: in the game you come across Super Mutants (basically think huge ork type guys), the FIRST one i ever fought in the game had a minigun (i was around level 3 or 4), then the next few had basic hunting rifles and then i came across another one with a rocket launcher. So basically with the fights in Fallout you wont actually know what type of weapons the enemies will have until you actually fight them!

Depends, if its going to be anything like the scale of Morrowind or Oblivion it will be defo worth buying.

easily one of the best games I have ever played fecking love it.Have it on the ps3 and havent encountered to many bugs except the odd frame rate issue when a certain monster is running at me.

anyone who is on the fence about this game its far better than oblivion and its only 45 beans in tesco.

i wuda preferred a figure of a guy in brotherhood of steel power armour or something

did anyone actually buy the collectors edition? what do you make of it?

no crashes at all so far on my vista64 + hd4870 system - bout 10 hours in. Enjoying it so far, definately feels like oblivion to me alright.... but dont mind, as I loved obliv :)

had the sidebar causing a graphical prob (weird scale on right hand side of the screen sometimes) - but easily solved by closing the sidebar

other then that its been smooth sailing

    VATS + headshots + 'Bloody Mess' = joy :D

I got the PS3 version and one of the problems i noticed is when the little notification comes up to show when someone on your friends list is online or offline, the game freezes.

One thing i'm finding is there seems to be a lack of quests. In Oblivion, i always had 10+ quests to choose from, whereas here i have two. And i havent done that many either.

    Still loving it though.

I always found the saturation of quests in Oblivion detracted from the game. You couldn't go 100 yards without tripping over a half dozen ancient ruins, distressed peasents and daedric shrines, all within shouting distance of the Imperial City. Sort of detracted from the immersion (not that there was any shortage of other issues detracting from it).

I agree with Sarky, it was one of my major gripes with Oblivion. Having so many quests and stuff going on it made it all too much to handle at one time and was hard to keep track of whats what. Even if Fallout doesnt have as many quests it's sure fun exploring anyway.

Just finished it there and got the good ending.

Just so everyone knows, the game ends after the final quest is done, so be sure to save if you wanna look around and do more quests !

Does anyone else find the crippling a little flawed ? I mean, when you cripple a mutants arm, surely he won't be able to hold a minigun ? Or when you cripple a radscorpions tale, he stills uses it to hit you ! And crippling a head ? Come on, that should be a kill or even drastically reduced accuracy for the enemy and you ! Crippled legs should really slow the player and enemies down, your speed is just reduced slightly same with the enemies, especially very fast mutants or animals ! They're still able to get up close no bother !

From what i seen crippling doesnt work as ehh crippling, it stops them getting a shot off so if you need to hit them again you get a free shot of sorts.

Got the good ending , went back to earlier save and going to get the bad ending and want to see what happens is
    Lyons goes in

Main game is very very short in terms of actual quests , only about 6 and you done

I'm now a Captiol crimelord. I have bounty hunters after me for my 'evil deeds'.

I pity the fool who comes up against me in Enclave Tesla armour with a laser rifle.

My head was crippled for about 3 hours before I figured out how to heal body parts :D

Urban Legend here. The White Talon have been plaguing my travels but when you're this well armed they're somewhat beneath you.

I'm carrying two sets of Enclave armour (Tesla and regular Power Armour), plasma rifle, pistol, grenades(~12) and mines(~14); a minigun, a fatboy, a sniper rifle, a chinese assault rifle, a laser gatling gun (w/excess of 400 rounds), frag grenades(~14), a super sledge, a combat shotgun and a few pulse grenades.
I'm something of a hoarder and will try to carry as much as I can.

Holy (s)hit lads, please tell me it's not that short! Finished in 2 days?? F2 took me almost 2 months to finish, not a bloody weekend! Is it that straightforward? Or were you just concentrating on getting to the end and didn't really care about side quests? Did you get what you expected in terms of content?

ps3 versions meant to be exceptionally glitchy

went with the 360 version myself based on this

i completed it in about 16 hours and i say i only touched 20% of the game, after i bet it i went off the beaten track a bit was amazed what else you can do, im gonna be a bad guy and look at all the side quests and explore the waste land

Ehhh i found loads of them by accident just talking to people. Infact thres 7 notes in my inventory thingy. And i only played it about 5 - 6 hours now. To the other guy that completed the game...wtf how?? is it that short?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭Pyr0

Well I didn't 100% complete all the quest, just the main story quest which when done, ends the game ! So you have to reload a previous save if you want to do all the missions, or start the game again.

I hate when a game skimps on the main story in order to cram in side quests. Is the main quest at least a good story?

Still, I got to play Fallout 3 for a few hours last night, and I have to say I think they did a pretty good job. I only got as far as wandering around Megaton for a while, but the feel of Fallout is there. I had massive doubts that they'd be able to carry over the atmosphere from the previous games but it looks like they pulled it off. Didn't get into much combat at all yet, but it seems ok so far.

So far it looks like they realised the horrible mistakes they made with Oblivion and fixed them. It's without doubt a Fallout game at the start, whether it stays a Fallout game for the rest I'll find out soon enough.

Anyway, first impressions are a damn sight better than I'd expected.
