Well priced in town - 360 standard was only 50 in Game, Smyths and HMV (Gamestop prove to be the worst choice again at 50). Was gonna get the CE but it was 64.99, so said I'd hold off picking it up until I finish Fable. Unless its for cheap up in Tesco tonight.

Standard PC version €35 in Smyths so I am told. Made a mistake buying it on steam I think. Heading home now to an annoying wait while it downloads.

Seems to be a widespread problem about crashing when people enter small places eg houses etc Thats what seems to be the main reason for all these crashes so hopefully a patch will sort it out.

Let the soothing no-required-dvd-in-drive and auto-patching-magic tide you over these difficult few hours. You know it's worth it really.

Looking for a wee bit of advice here guys, I bought Far Cry 2 friday last and finished it. Great game, heaps of fun but I dont have live so I cant get into the multiplayer aspect of things. Should I trade it in for Fallout 3? I loved Fallout 1, didnt get into 2, and loved Morrowind and Oblivion.

I'd say go for it, if you've cleared it and enjoyed it why not put it towards some further entertainment? I'll be doing the same once I clear FC2 due to no xbox live

Only got to play for 30 mins and crashed twice, once in Vault 101 and second in Megaton, is this a sign of a very buggy game thats gonna cause me alot of ****?

I was having that problem. I rolled back my nvida drivers from the beta ones. Haven't had any problems since, though it may be my imagination but my gpu fan seems to be spinning more to keep it cool during the game.

Yeah I think it's worth it in the end to have it in steam. Only downloading at a poxy 350Kb/sec atm though. Still I can stare at the lovely desktop shortcut.

Apparently the Ps3 version is a wee bit buggy:

I know the Steam system is handy and all that but when you factor in VAT (not VATS, bad-dump-tish! :)) it's nearly €50! That's what they were charging in Gamestop for the Collector's Edition today. It's a bloody disgraceful price from Steam.

I was just about to buy it on steam when I noticed this. That's bloody ridiculous. Valve have been taking the piss with their EU prices lately. You can get it on direct2drive for 38.

That's interesting, do D2D not add on VAT?

No but their download speeds are very slow

I found them fast enough if you used their downloader.

I used them for bionic commando and it took ages. Speed seemed to be capped at 50k. But I think I'll be using them for this

    I know the feeling.

After 3 hours steam said it was downloaded. I uninstalled my yarr copy and opened fallout 3 in steam. Then i get updating game for another 2 hours.

Anyone getting more than 350Kb/s? Bloody joke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,501 ✭✭✭wayne040576

Tried to get it on Direct2drive uk. I gout right up to the confirm payment before it told me it was region restricted. I then tried the US website and it tried to add $10 sales tax ala steam.
And yet it worked for bionic commando.

thats weird. Direct2drive.co.uk always works for me. are you behind some kind of proxy or something

Nope. Used to work for me too. Read they recently restricted their content. When was the last time you used them?

    spore or warhammer.

every other game says on the site UK and EU. Seems there is a UK version of fallout 3 and a EU version which doesn't cover Ireland
This product is available for purchase in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

Hasnt beeen much humour yet (10 hours in avoiding main quest) but its oblivion with guns and more robust combat engine.

Why do people have problems with that

has some showstopping bugs tho, watched someone i needed to talk plunge 100 foot to their death before i could talk to them, funny as **** tho. TALK TO MORIARTY .......ARGHHHHHH wtf!!!!

up close combat is crap too, if they that close using VATS i should be able to select a melee weapon and not something that shoots over their head(after a while you get used to the correct distance needed to blow their head off with a shotgun with one shot).

If it wasnt bugged to **** this would be an OOT beater. still tho easily a 9/10 game

Suprisingly enjoyable. It's got a fair bit of the fallout vibe but I cant help feeling that Bethesda missed the point a little in places. Sure its pretty, sure it got ultra-violence big guns and scantily clad women (or so it promises) but it's missing some essential spark.

The humour is there but its been steamrolled to make this kind of game acessible to the mind boggling stupid console gamers out there (no offense to the intelligent console gamers but the rest of your kind are ruining gaming). The Children of the Atom is clever and darkly witty but it's a little too serious and lacks the shameless striping the Hubologists provided. Andy has a charming concern in his voice but your contact with him is too short. The Enclave radio is a nice parody on certain radio conservatives and dictators like Stalin and Musolini but the little things are missing. Enemies don't complain, shout or abuse you like they used to. I havent spotted a three-handled-moss-covered-gredunza or a pit filled with whale meat at all yet.

VATS works nicely but the FMV isnt as seemless as it could be. The SPECIAL system is there as are the perks though it remains to be seen how well these were implemented. Attribute boosting items are there but there are far too many of them, every piece of clothing has an effect which is idiotic ... explain to me how wearing a lab coat makes you better at science? This is pandering to consolers and misses the reasonable logic of its predecessors and the actually cheapens the experience of finding increased stats (which were like gold dust in the previous games).

That said, I do genuinely like the game and it is very good to see the landscapes and world of Fallout brought into a truer 3D life. A smaller number of "producers" and "marketting" dum-dums would have done it a world of good.

That said, I may be judging a little too early in the game so I'll reconsider my perspective after another 30 hours or so.

Doesn't feel like Oblivion with guns at all to me. Given that I use VATs all the time which is unlike anything in Oblivion, so the combat is nothing like it.

And then the most important part of the game is the dialogue, which again is nothing like Oblivion. Feels more like a Bioware game with lots of genuine choices, all I remember of Oblivions dialogue options was asking every character the same five questions and usually getting the same answers (in the same voice)

Character development is different too, and faithful to the original games (in terms of what the stats are anyway, too early in to see how much affect they have)

So all it really has in common with Oblivion is the graphics engine, but that's like saying Bioshock is just Unreal Tournament with Plasmids or GTA is just Midnight Club with guns...

In general, I'm only around 4 or 5 hours in but love the game so far. I'm struggling to think of any flaws at all really. There are tons of different ways to approach things, lots of dialogue options, genuine moral questions, combat is fun, character development looks deep, graphics are fantastic, when it comes to the landscape at least. Character animation could use work and it is annoying sometimes when you're in a crowded area and characters are speaking to eachother and you just hear a mishmash of different voices at the same time(which is one thing carried over from Oblivion), but that's just being picky.

After being disappointed with Saint's Row 2 weeks ago and even more so with Fable 2 last week, it's good to be playing a game that's looking like living up to the hype!
