I think I'd stick with wifi if I get an iPhone considering Meteor charge €10 for 15mb or €15 for 25mb of data

Does the iPhone support email on the go ala Blackberry? The boss is looking at getting one but it needs to have email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭elderlemon

Nope. Only its own webmail client - ie you connect, stay connected and read and reply to the messages while connected (I think). I wouldn't have thought the iphone would even be considered as anything approaching a business phone.

    Hi guys,
Gonna get the bro in SF to get me one now that the one over here (in UK) is gonna be the exact same. EDGE does not bother me at all as I have an N70 and have used the 3G on it like 3 times in about 2 years. The main reason I want it is to have ONE device in my pocket and not tow, essentially I want if or music, video, phone calls and texts. The fact it has WiFi and a browser is a major bonus.

Anyhow, if he ships it over to me is there a chance I get stung for customs crap etc. It is better to send it in the box or take it out and send just the iPhone and the charger?

    Cheers,
    M

I didn't think so, but he asked me to double check. I reckon I'll get one myself, where are people getting theirs from, ebay? friends in the US?

Just got my iPhone from Unlock That iPhone, i ordered a 4GB model and got an 8GB hehe!!!

Anyways, i just set it up with my work e-mail and it works fine. You can use any e-mail with it accept hotmail as it doesnt seem to support http e-mail. My POP3 and gmail accounts are working perfectly though.

Im also having the same problem as Dan with the numbers thing, its crazy!!

Just did another 2 iPhones there...took me 15mins.

Google 'anySIM' for the free unlock. You just litteraly jailbreak with iBrckr (or iNdepenance for Mac), put anySIM into the applications folder, run anySIM from the springboard and 5mins later, unlocked iPhone.

PowerHouseDan, there is a fix for that, search on hackintosh. I can't find the thread in my history (only keep 2 days) but i have definately seen it.

Also, I'm in florida now, paid less then 300eur for the phone. Those boys in Cork are rip-off merchants.

For those of you with iPhones...make sure you have installer.app - best tool there is so far.

Apple has announced T-Mobile as the German carrier of the iPhone - no suprise there. So far they have selected the alrgest operators in the US, UK and now Germany.

Hello, are you sure anysim is that straightforward? When that was releasd loads of people complained there was way more to it with no instructions and thta it simply didn't work. It looks like my bro is going to buy an iphone in ny now but he's not sure whether to use his mac or another pc to do the whole process, which one would you recommend? Also, if he uses one computer to sync with itunes first will he be tied to using that computer to sync from then on or can he switch between any computer with itunes?
With anysim, do you just download it on the iphone's own safari browser or does the pc come into this process somewhere?
Do you know of any good tutorials for anysim?

Is there any way to download the emails onto the iphone so you can read all of them once you've left the wifi hotspot?

Best forum i've found for info is - http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/indexpage.php

Unlocking seems to be more geared up towards Windows. I havent used windows to do any of the phones though. Judging by the tutorials, iBrckr looks to be the way to go on a PC.

    On Mac use iNdepenance 1.2.1.

It is that easy. I used the bare files the first night it came out, with required SSH'ing into the iPhone and uploading files to system folders manualy. Now you can just use anySIM.

Tutorial i used the first night, which still has links to files is here: http://iphone.unlock.no/ - sounds more complicated then it is. Just follow the steps and you'll be grand.

To answer your other question, the iPhone downloads the whole email on receipt, so you can view the entire email later while away from a hotspot.

    Thanks, the jailbreaking process appears to be far simpler on the mac according to this guide;
    http://unlockthatiphone.com/jailbreak.php
But the activation process is easier on a pc, would it be ok to switch between the mac and pc or can the iphone only dock with one computer (ie the "main" computer and it treats every other one as a "guest" computer like what some mp3 players do?)

Activate & Jailbreak is just two clicks on a Mac using iNdependance .... litteraly click 'Activate Phone' - then let it do it, takes about 2mins....then click 'Perform Jailbreak' - let it do it...again, about two mins.

Then click 'Install SSH/SFTP' - gives u instructions to turn the phone off and back on again - then its done.

Three clicks and you're activate, out of jail and have SSH & SFTP ready to go. It couldn't be easier...

Thanks, that clears things up but what does "ssh & sftp" mean and how do they affect the "anysim" method of unlocking? Sorry for all the questions!

I've just bought an 8GB on eBay for a total of €411 including shipping after the exchange on PayPal. This is the cheapest I can find on eBay at the moment from what looks like a legitimate seller(touch wood!). :)

There is no Fix for that number issue everyone is having the problem which hopefully will be fixed in the next update but saying that Apple WILL lock all phones in the next update. In other words dont update your phone. But there are going to be some nice features and fixes in the next update

You need STFP enabled so you can put anySIM on the phone.

Jailbreaking enables you to write to the iPhone, you need to use an FTP program to put the anySIM.app on there. Use Cyberduck on mac, works fine.

Ok, i cant read this anymore and not say anything. I am the owner of Unlock That iPhone.

Fanboy, you are so full S%$t its not even funny. If people try and unlock their iPhones with the instructions you give, they'll brick the things and need to do a virgin reflash to get it going again, i know because i bricked the first two i tried to unlock and only got them working today.

You mention ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about the MOST IMPORTANT part in unlocking, the lockdownd file. Without this, you CANT unlock the iPhone.

So ya'll wanna good tutorial?? Here we go, i"ve unlocked 46 iPhones since Monday using this method. this is for Windows users Only!! I'll do a MAC one later.

    1. Download iTunes Ver 7.3.0.5 from Here
    2. Download One Click Activation Tool from Here
    3. Download ibricker Ver 0.8 from Here
    4. Download anySIM.pxl from Here
    5. Download lockdownd from Here
    6. Download PACAY from Here

Those are all the files you need, now lets get started.

    7. Install iTunes 7.3.0.5 (Remove previous version if on computer)
    8. Run Once Click Activation Tool
    9. Plug iPhone into computer via docking station.
    10. Start iTunes and set up the iPhone.
    11. In iTunes, Click on RESTORE, it will then pop up saying restore and update, click ok
    12. Let the iPhone restore and the set it up in iTunes again.
    13. Unzip ibrickr to a folder and run ibrickr.exe
    14. Follow the onscreen instructions to jailbreak your iPhone.
    15. When you get to the screen that says ringtones/sounds/applications/files, click on files
    16. In the iPhone on the right, click on the folder "usr" then click "libexec"
    17. Upload lockdownd to this folder using the upload button
    18. Go back to the main ibrickr screen and click Applications
    19. Follow the on-screen instructions and install .pxl manager on the iphone.
    20. You will have to restart twice during this. Then you will have a screen with browse applications/upload .pxl file etc.
    21. Click upload .pxl file and upload the anySIM.pxl you downloaded earlier.
    22. The iPhone will now soft restart and you will have anySIM on the springboard.
    23. Go to settings->general->Auto-Lock and set it to never.
    24. Click on the anySIM app, slide to unlock and accept the terms.
    25. This will take about 12-15 minutes to complete, when its finished you will get an error message about minicom.
    26. Ignore this, turn the iPhone off and insert your sim card.
    27. Restart the iPhone and its completly unlocked.
    28. Start up ibrickr again and go to applications again, in the iPhone on the right there will be anySIM with a red dash beside it, click on this to remove anysim form the iPhone because if you run anySIM twice, you will brick the iPhone and have to do a virgin restore.
    29. Extract the PACAY folder to your desktop, click the .bat file that says CLICK HERE. Press enter and let it do the rest. It will ask you to turn the iPhone off when done and then start it again. this program unlocks youtube to work.

That is how you unlock the apple iPhone. If you skip ANY of them steps, it will not work. If your iPhone is already version 1.02 and you skip the itunes restore in step 11, IT WILL NOT WORK!!! This whole process will take you AT LEAST 1 hour to complete!!

You have all heard about us by now, we sell unlocked iPhones in Ireland. We will help ANYONE who already has an iPhone to unlock it at NO cost. the reasons we charge what we do is beacuse of high import costs. You can buy an iphone on ebay.com for 411euro but you WILL pay 72 euro to import it when it gets here which is 483 and then YOU have to unlock it yourself. We believe our prices are the best on the market, you WILL NOT get an Unlocked 8GB Apple iPhone for less than 499euro on ANY ebay site within europe.

If anyone has any questions, dont hesitate to ask!!!

PS, JAMES RILEY, we'll let you off with the 8GB one but we have a guy in Bray who got your 4GB one, poor chap is pulling his hair out!!!

    hello there :)

this isn't a suport forum for any particular company... so if you have a specific question check the company's website and use their contact details to ask them questions directly

i'd also like to draw the attention to anyone posting that some comany is a rip-off (in their opinion) or someone else if full of 'whatever' ... neither of which is particularly relevant, helpful, good natured or on-topic...

the rules of the forum state that general civility to be observed at all times... so inhale and heed them...

this thread should be for relevant civil discussion on the iPhone...
