Those "cork boys" sure are ripping off everyone who wants an iPhone - €499 for an 8GB.

I'll take one 8GB from ebay from €100 less, but thanks lads

Indeed. I wouldn't pay the the new asking price of E519 (they have a E20 charge when you buy online with paypal) - I got in there when it was E449 for the 8 gig. E449 for a 4gb really is a rip when you consider them available refurb/discontinued from an apple store for $249!!

And as for the ebay option - I'd rather buy from some who has imported them, rather than trying run the customs gauntlet myself...

any info on O2 IRL releasing the iPhone?
How cool would it be if Meteor were to get it?! It would certainly increase their market share, and they have an effective EDGE network as it is.
All they have to do is agree to pay a % of data earnings to apple right??

Got mine last night from the courier.

Absolutely stunning - it feels like no other gadget I have had.

Cutting edge stuff although the wife just shrugged her shoulders.

Independence went wonky on me for hours but finally Activated and Jailbreaked it.

Also found it messy to get iphonesimfree onto it but used Cyberduck in the end and the process took three minutes.

O2 IRL sim in it and YouTube works straight away.

    $456 including tax and courier = €329.

If the iPhone didn't exist I would have bought the upcoming SE 850i which will debut, I would guess at €480 and that phone is shamed beside the iPhone except for the camera.
can you give me the details of your courier, please!

    just read this on siliconrepublic
While UK consumers can get their hands on an iPhone in about a month, Ireland, like the rest of Europe, has no confirmed mobile carrier.

A spokesperson for O2 Ireland said: “We can confirm that O2 UK has been selected as the official carrier of the iPhone in the UK marketplace, however that announcement does not apply to O2 Ireland.

“Until Apple makes an announcement regarding other markets, the decision on the chosen operator in Ireland remains speculative.”

iPhone Launched in the UK on O2 Network

    Posted by arn
At Apple's media event in London, Apple launched the iPhone UK which will go on sale on November 9th for £269 (including VAT) and will use the O2 network as rumored.

    - Unlimited data for £35, £45, £55.
    - 18 month contract.
    - Uses EDGE (no 3g).
    - iTunes WiFi Store
    - 8GB Storage

Apple has also created an agreement with The Cloud to offer 7500 free WiFi spots in the UK.
Right, now lets just put this into perspective, 270 pounds = $539
This is a signifigant leap from the us price of $399.
As for the uk data plans, they start from the equivalent of $70(£35) (for the lowest package) and rise all the way to $109(£55). You'd be mad not to buy one from america now- such a bargain at only 287euro! With the o2 deal you'd probably have to sign up to the contract in the store - unlike the apple stores in the us who just give it to you over the counter.

Just read from O2 UK site that they will have visual voicemail and that yes you can simply buy the phone and take it home to activate it thru itunes, so you don't need to sign up in store.
I really think I'm gonna get a relative to send me an iPhone from the states as it will cost just €334 including courier. BARGAIN! Then I will get onto unlockthatiphone.com to purchase the unlock.

Ok, that's good but the saving still outweighs the uk model.

once its unlocked then its open to all networks ( except 3) so if you stick in an O2 sim it should work...

well the phone will work, but not visual voicemail imo.
not unless O2 ireland put the feature on the O2 network here, which is unlikely until they get the phone for Ireland.

dont know if this has been posted already but has anyone noticed that apple are advertising the iphone as available on nov 9th on the Irish website, home page in the bottom left corner, (www.apple.ie) just like the uk one!

    Wouldn't mind that... it's just a portal.

When you click on it, the link brings you to the UK site anyways.

true, sorry about that! getting a bit fed up of waiting now! think ill try getting someone to send one over from the states, quick question if i do get one sent over and unlock it, to use on meteor, if apple relock it with a future firmware or software update will i be able to just buy a O2 sim and activate it with them when they release it over here?

    nice piece by engadget/the street
Update: Pocketlint reports that Jobs confirmed Apple's plans for a 3G iPhone in 2008. He said, to a crowd accustomed to 3G: "You can expect a 3G iPhone later next year." Original guesswork by The Street below.

We've been beating up on Apple for crippling the iPhone with its slowpoke EDGE network connectivity rather than 3G, but according to TheStreet.com, "people familiar with the production plans" are now saying that a 3G-equipped iPhone will be rolling out in the first quarter of next year. But hey, this isn't the first time we've heard this scuttlebutt about the iPhone and 3G.

This goes along with the rumors we've been hearing for a while now, from some tattletale Swedes back in February, an iPhone radio engineer squealing in January, rumors of a 16GB 3G iPhone for Germany, and word of a 7-year contract with 3G wireless tech company InterDigital.

While Apple wouldn't confirm any of this, those industry wags talking with TheStreet.com also say the updated iPhone will be packing GPS on board in Q1 '08. Adding 3G and GPS? That's when we're really going to want the remaining $500 back for our iPhone. Could this be planned obsolescence? So it goes. You can always tell the pioneers—they're the ones with arrows in their backs.

I have a annoying issue with mine the Tel number are american 086 121-6565
when you get a call of that number the name will come up but went ya receive a text the text comes through as +353 86 and name doesnt come up until ya go into messages but if ya change the number in at +353 when they ring you it comes up at 086 etc so if you want the name to come up in both text and voice you have to enter 2 numbers 1 with 353 and the other without

Ya no if you enter a number into your phonebook ie 0857171717 if you receive a call from 0857171717 the name would come up but when i receive a text texts are sent +353 85 7171717 well when it comes up on the name screen view/ignore the number +353 85 7171717 instead of the name because i have the name under 0857171717 instead of +353857171717 and if i put + 353 in the name when i get a call the name doesnt come up it comes up as 0857171717 instead.

What's the story with your voicemail button?

For those who've unlocked and have a non-functioning Voicemail button, here's how to fix it:

€4.92 /mb ! I'll be looking for hotspots and getting a router for home!

I think it's great that they organised all those free hotspots in the UK - hope they try and do the same here I don't have much interest in using EDGE

Well that is just plain retarded :|

Can you not save both numbers under the single contact? Not sure why I am thinking this but I reckon that prob won't occur on Vodafone or O2. Just have that idea in my head for some unknown reason.

Ye, most phones alow you to store more than one number in one contract eg one for work/mobile/landline?? Maybe he just hasn't looked in the setings enough as I never heard of that before now.
