still not right....fro insurance purposes it depends on the various compaines, some are 20 years and even thats negotiable ...the only hard and fast date is 30 years for cheap tax/NCT free concession

The poor old beetle NIP718 looks a bit sad....pity to see it out like that!:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭niceirishfella

    is that a pug305 van?

if it is, its not a classic............surely?

  • Registered Users Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

yeah, the beetle is a sad sight alright. I know the guy that owns it, he had it restored at great expense years ago but it has sat there unmoved for at least 10 years now. He's not for selling though, sentimental value I think ;)

Some ****head local kids smashed the driver's side quarterlight a couple of years back in an attempt to get inside and vandalise it further. I gave him a replacement to keep the rain out as much as possible.
Least I could do to help keep the rust at bay, I'm hoping he may offer it to me some day when he realises that it's not getting any better in his yard :D:D

re the 305 van. Alright, maybe it's not a classic but when was the last itme you saw another one? Probably not for quite a while. When was the last time you saw a beetle or mini? Probably not that long ago. Now, which one is rarer?

Well, I haven't seen an original pre-'87 reg. Escort Mk3 since the late 90's!

The 305 van certainly is a rare beast these days. Even its saloon counterpart is rarer!

Theres one around in tralee with a ZX reg, the last time i saw it i thought, hmm, havent seen one of those for ages...if a car makes me think that its definatly worth a second thought!

The is a couple around - saw one in Cavan there a few weeks back - with a suck Calf in the back........and straw sticking out from under the tailgate......no kidding!
    Good spot tho' Trevor!

Good spotting there Trevor, that Beetle really should be saved though. Would he not even buy a cover for it ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

I reckon he'd be better off without a cover. I have yet to see a car stored outdoors come out from under a cover dry. At least when it's out in the elements it dries off in the wind. He'd do better to keep the grass and weeds down around it to let the underside get aired... I can only imagine but it's probably a basket case by now :(

.......yeah thats very true, covers are fine if the car is being used regularly !

    Shame !

    Hi Trevor

Where's the Beetle located, all Beetles are salvageable, given parts availability, i'd be keen to see it back on the road

    Regards

Not so much abandoned as a neglected Minor on the "Main" street in Creggs Co. Roscommon.
    06052008003.jpg

And a few miles further west on the road to Williamstown a Morris 1800 landcrab stoppin' a gap!

    Nice one MercMad.
It is currently performing it's most usefull purpose in fact I believe Hedge Blocker may have been the design brief.

i dunno if its strong enough for that job, any self-respecting cow would have no trouble getting past it....doing a great job of propping up the nettles though

How bad is the Saab 96 on the first page and is it still there? Would it be a suitable restoration project for a newbie?

I posted a pic of a 96 in the other (non-abandoned!) thread which is for sale on the side of the road in Emo Co. Laois. Saw there again last week. must be for sale for nearly a year now. PM me if you want the exact location. I think the asking price is €3500 on ZV's
