The case has struck a chord for some reason, a lot of it is media led.

Saying that people care about this = don't care about other cases is lazy and like the OP, just making a point for the sake of it.

I think it's getting to the stage where we have to prefix every post with "I would like nothing more than to see maddie returned safely to her parents" so I have.

The reason it has 'struck a chord' is because the media picked a personal tragedy as a story to run with for 2 weeks straight. As mordie said, it is tabloid. The question is why this one, why not the other stories?

The coverage has gotten out of hand on all angles of the media and I agree with being sick of this. For 3 days straight the news channels were filling up time with useless trivia regarding the story. If it touches a nerve it grabs people's attention and emotions and thus you get ratings, obviously enough.

Obviously whatever we think about the story nobody wants to see it end bad (Though at this point I think it's reached the point of no return for the girl)

Is this not an Irish website? We have our own news on RTE at 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock so why don't all you muppets just watch that. Btw anybody who decided it was necessary to voice their opinion on the wrongdoing of the parents or attempted to trivialise the issue by saying "sure it happens all over the world" are scumbags pure and simple. If an Irish girl went missing in a foreign country there would be national outrage and sympathy here so stop knocking the Brits for doing the same. If an Indian girl goes missing in India or wherever else then let the Indians make an issue of it. Nobody has a right to judge the parents and anonymously write heartlessly comments on the Internet. If I met one of you I'd kick the living s**t out of you for some of the comments posted. And to the original poster, confirmation: you are a heartless bastard. And you're also a wanker, like a lot of other people here!!

Yea we are the real scumbags, people who think the media coverage is a bit OTT and say this on a message board. So why have the media covered one case for two weeks and not covered ANY other missing person cases in the UK since? As someone has said, there are already 494 people gone missing since maddie did.

Please don't kick the s**t out of me... If I met you in the street I would bow down.

I'm a parent and I think its wrong that them left the kids on their own. I've also said its not their fault someone decided to break in and abduct their child but I don't think anyone can say the parents did nothing wrong.

    You're being a bit OTT.

May have been OTT but the type of person posting can be seen by the little gay boy sarcasm of the previous poster. I just don't like the way little faggets think they can get away with making comments like that. This guy and a lot of others don't even understand the issue and probably feel the news should have more coverage of the latest games to come out on the PlayStation 3. They don't live in the real world so God forgive them I guess!!

Are you talking about me? All I pointed out was the parents mistake. You cannot deny the mistake they made. But then we get heroes like you coming into the debate throwing abuse at everyone who disagrees with you. Charming.

If you're going to the the resident PC hard man and give advice to people try doing without insulting and calling people "faggets" and "gay boy"

It makes you sound like a bit of a moron/idiot and hard to take seriously.

I never claimed to be a hero you idiot but I'm not going to take back what I said because I genuinely would love to do that. It's easy for you to sit there and make mindless comments but it's certainly not very big or clever either. The girl is the most important thing not the parents and I'm sure they feel bad about what they did. Your comments don't help.

I say thumbs down to Smarmore and hopefully a ban.

People seem to be very emotional about this topic but threatening and intimidating people is not on. People are entitled to their views without being abused.

So it's ok to kick the s**t out of someone if you disagree with their post on an internet forum. I hope your over in Portugal if they catch the abducter, they might need someone for doling out the punishment.

Smarmore banned for... well it's kind of obvious isn't it?

Lads, if I have to ban one more person from this thread I'm going to close it. Keep it civil.

well yeah, if it works it may well be worth it. but what will happen the next time a child gets abducted? will sky drop everything to help the next one? or thenext one? the next seven after that?

no, of course they won't. This is sensationalist bull****. If what sky is doing is the right thing for this case, then it should be the right thing to do in all similar cases and if they have taken it upon themselves to act like this with regards to 'maddie' then they should, in all good conscience, act in exactly the same way when any child goes missing, regardless of ethnicity, class or how good a story it would make.

do you think that will happen? what do you think is it about this case that makes it so special, that makes this particular abduction the most important piece of news as opposed to the many, many other abductions that take place on british soil and off. Off the top of my head I can't think of many similar cases sky have covered with such gusto, except for those two (coincidentally, I'm sure) white blonde girls that went missing a number of years ago. The ones that wore those man utd jersies, I can't remember their names now.

and in a couple of years time I won't remember maddie either, neither will most of you.

oh wait, it was holly and jessica.

well maybe I'm wrong, big up the sky news.

    Anyway back on topic.

    My views:

Madeline Mc Cann: Obviously, I sincerely hope she will be found safe and well and her kidnapper put in jail for a nice, long time.

Her parents: A very distressing time for them of course, must be terrible. But they did act extremely carelessly and questions should be asked about their parenting skills.

The Media: Same old crap. They find a vehicle to sell papers, advertising space and time, and they jump on it with glee. And all these celebritys etc. with their fakeness appearing in papers to try and "help" Madeline, while grabbing some free and easy publicity for themselves.

Above all, hopefully she is found alive.

someone was banned for a lot less , so if you want to stay active i'd tone it down -- i agree that some of the postings here have been calous and hearltless and blaming the parents when we don't know them personally , or know exactly what happened, is insensitive and stupid ... its easy to be a good parent in a virtual world ...

on topic -- how long will Sky's blanket coverage continue ?

you know, while we're all on this topic arguing about whether or not the coverage of this story is right or wrong and related issues at least there are some people on this site who are making a real, practical effort to bring maddie home safely.

These people deserve our undying respect, admiration and anybody with any psychic energy to spare.. please, send it their way.

As I said in an earlier post, quite rightly, it's the family/friends/contacts of the McCanns who seem to be driving this media campaign. I suppose it'll fizzle out when Sky and the other blood-suckers don't see them doing anything new.

What would Sky News etc do if someone else goes missing in a foreign country?
Will they share coverage, ignore it?
Will they get sportsmen to donate cash to help find them?

What is more money going to do in a case like this?
Its not like its a ransom or a trerribly corrupt country where they can grease some palms.

Obvioulsy its a tragic event, but I dont see why it has this much attention from the media.
Obviously the parents, friends & relations are going to stay invovled and up to date but what exactly are the rest of us supposed to do about it?

Do I really need to know that Murats web friend has been questionned?
    Is that helping anyone?

Do I really need to know his life history, see pictures of the outside of his ex wifes house?

    I mean FFS, its crazy.

RELAX people you need to calm down.

For anyone criticising the family - get over yourselves. If it was your own child or a friend's child you'd point a gun at the media threatening to shoot if they didn't have 24 hour coverage of the story so far.

There is no point in complaining about it because it's not going to get you anywhere. It's not going to bring Madeleine back and it's not going to make the McCann family stop searching.

Yes it was irresponsible to leave a child alone with two siblings, especially at such a young age, but we've all made/will make stupid mistakes. That's how we learn.

If Madeleine hadn't been abducted it would have been a small mistake and nothing would have been said about it. But because she has been abducted it's seen as a huge one. And people would rather point the finger at others than admit to others "Hey I did that once."

Hope is the only thing keeping the McCanns searching. And people like you who are complaining that it's all over the place, and how sick to the back teeth of it you all are.. well that's not going to help them in any way now is it? Yes we might be in Ireland, but it doesn't stop us doing anything.

For all we know she could be in Ireland or America or anywhere.

Just get some sense and stop complaining and start keeping your eyes open.

Alive or dead she needs to be found, for the family.

another way we learn is when people point out our mistakes. But that probably hasn't got any relevance to this thread.

    The reality is she's dead.

Its one girl, there are worse things happening in the world, for example 2 kids getting shot in China today...

i think its basically a ploy to get people watching certain stations, its a human interest peice basically, something they know people will watch because its so sad...

I've a funny feeling if the parent's weren't Doctors, just some package holiday scangers, then the media would be coming down a lot harder on them, I read that there was actually facilities at the resort to look after your kids even at night if Parents wanted to go out for a drink or a meal, maybe they were too mean to pay for it. I'm sure all parents on Boards and on this thread wouldn't be able to handle the situation of having one of their children snatched, but in saying that I'm sure 99% of parents could see the problem of leaving 3 young children under 4 in a room unattended, its just wrong, its basic parenting. It would be different if a child was snatched in a shopping centre like that lad in Liverpool (Jamie) or the two Girls in Soham, but this situation should never have arose.
