    Hey Guys,

I am looking for accommodation advice for Sept around UCC.

I have been looking at the Fullers Lodge development located on College Road.
Is anyone familiar what the development and the apartments? If so what are they like?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks ☺

Hi there. Spend four years in UCC and came across some dives and some very nice places. Fullers lodge is ok, when I was in there it was clean but a little damp and that area is VERY noisy. Well i found it to be anyway. If you can afford it on campus accom like vic mills, vic lodge and uni hall are great. I was in uni hall for two years and loved the place, gated entrance so no listening to hooligans at all hours of the night - built in 2006 so new enough development. Mind you it was pricey but from what I have seen around the place I have to say that it was the best. A lot of those places have common rooms too - great if you lose your internet connection and really need net access. Steer well clear of castlewhite - stayed there for a year and my god the amount of people ringing our doorbell at night was shameful. You have 24hr security aswell so that makes a huge difference too. Houses can be disastrous, but some are very nice. There are some quite nice ones there just up by donovans road, think they are called honan mews. There's plenty choice but get booking as places fill up fast and generally deposits are non-refundable!

Many student accommodation around and near UCC. I would advise to go with a student hall type accommodation as mentioned previously. Best ones all round despite them being a bit pricey. A couple of options to look into. Maybe digs for first year and then move in with students the following few years.

Are you a 1st year or will you be a postgrad? Accommodation available can vary.

Deans hall doesn't look too bad, victoria station, victoria lodge, victoria mills, university hall be your best bet I think, brookfield, farranlea and castlewhite might not be too bad depends what kind of accommodation you want, move in with a few or a big group of people? Have an en-suite or do you want to have own room but share everything else? Think The student Village might not be too bad or specialised student accommodation in the city or around bishopstown. All the ones I have mentioned are in very good locations and seem good enough to stay in. I only stayed in postgrad accommodation on dennehy's cross., excellent location, lovely apartments so suited me.

Best to organise your accommodation as soon as you can.

I was looking into Sheare's Gate accommodation, not far from UCC but don't know anything about it.

Have a look at the following website, UCC owns and runs the on campus accommodation.

    http://www.ucccampusaccommodation.com/student_accommodation.cfm

Have you looked into the accommodation thread for any helpful tips?

    Hey doovdela,

How are you? Thanks for the MSG reply and for all the useful information and links. It is much appreciated

I am going doing an undergraduate degree as a mature student in Sept. So I am a little bit specific in what I want in terms of accommodation. I am not really interested in living with first years in the student halls etc. (been there done that kind of thing)

I would like to share with other mature students or post grad students. I was looking at apartments but that may not be viable due to the price range. So sharing seems the most realistic option. I would also like something relatively close to UCC.

Dennehy’s cross-accommodation looks very nice. But I imagine that is only specially for post grad students? I presume they don’t expect undergraduate mature students?

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all the tips and info guys.Much appreciated. I am going back as a mature student so ideally I would like accommodation more centred around mature students etc. I am not really keen on living in the halls etc.

I'm an American who is going to be a MA student in the music department, and while I'm planning on contacting the Accommodation Office, I figured I'd check here to see if anyone needs a flatmate or is vacating a good place near Sunday's Well.

On the fact you are a mature student Dennehy's Cross might allow you to apply for the accommodation but saying that they are designed for postgrads. So is the Sheare Gates one I think. There are plenty of places you can look into though that offer 9 month lease. Have you looked into daft.ie? It be hard not to find a place where you are to not share with a minimum of 2-3 people. It be hard enough to find a place for one person on their own especially for a student if they not looking to share though unless you plan to stay for a year like? Most leases are for a year. Though if you look hard enough you might get a place of your own with a minimum of a 9 month lease. Though you may have to look a little bit out of the city or in the city.

Bishopstown, Blackpool, Blackrock, Douglas be worth looking into but if you looking to be nearer to UCC, Bishopstown or near the college be your best bet. Get familiar with maps though if you want an idea where places you are looking into. I highly recommend visiting the apartment/housing before you go ahead with your contract. Dennehy's Cross is about 5 minutes walk from the IT Building and Dennehy's Cross is about 20 minutes walk to the main UCC campus. You can travel by bus or by bike no problem if you nearer to UCC. I be looking into places that are within walkable distances. Google map give you an idea how far the places are from UCC.

    Good luck in your search.

Would it be too late to book victoria student accommodation now? I don't want to live in Castlewhite and would be stuck with it if I get left with 3rd choice...

We have a big double room, and a small single room going in Deerpark. House already contains two girls, one PHd student and one recent graduate. Two bathrooms, kitchen with washing machine, no dryer (but plenty of radiators). Front and back garden. UPC internet and TV. Cleaner is included in rent, she comes every two weeks. Parking available with a permit. Double room is €310 a month and the single is €220.

We'd prefer a female housemate/housemates, preferrably postgrad or final year - we're a fairly quiet house with a good reputation with our neighbours, and we'd like to keep it :)

PM me for more details please :)

    Hi Ireland21

If you are going into first year we would recommend that apartment complexes are the best option for you. There are around 25 complexes that take first years, here, and a map here

That's brill thanks for that. Well went to view both Brookfield and the village today. Brookfield...oh my god!! He walked me into the 'living/dining' didn't need to see anymore!! Such a shame that the houses are so bad on the inside when they look so nice on the outside!! Brought us to Jennings pool next...they were nice, good size too. Brookfield itself is right beside the nursing/medicine complex. The village, lovely apartment they are renovating all apartments at the moment adding an extra bathroom to the 5 and 6 beds. Works out a lot cheaper, bills included and they are a family run business so I think its something they take great interest in making sure its right! Loved it anyway and will be sending my booking forms tomorrow!!

Hey, I'm going into second year and will be moving into Jenning's Pool this year. Does anyone know what it is like?
I'll be honest and say I'm not the biggest fan of parties (non-drinker and hate clubbing XD I'm not a total buzz-kill don't get me wrong but I'm more the chill out and peace-and-quiet type! Haha :) ), and I was wondering is it quiet there?
Also, bit of a random question, but how sensitive are the smoke alarms? I stayed in Castlewhite for an orientation and we had to be SO careful, I also lived in the Village last year and they were fine there. Does anyone know if they're prone to going off easily in Jenning's Pool?
    Thanks! :)

What was it like in the Village? That's where I've booked :)

What was it like in the Village? That's where I've booked :)

I thought the Village was grand in general. But as the year went on I found that there was a lot of noise in the evenings, and during study month I tended to stay over in my boyfriend's house because any night I was in the Village during it I found there was loud parties in 2 or more surrounding apartments most nights of the week.
Don't get me wrong, I've been to a few parties, but nothing that was as noisy as some of the ones there. :(
I would often smell the smoke of cigarettes and weed in the hallways there too :(
The flats themselves are comfortable enough, and the bedroom was grand for me :)
Mind you, my block was a bit notorious, so maybe I was just unlucky. XD

I do like going out and parties, but at the same time I do need quiet now and again, especially when I need to study. But everyone has said that there is noise and parties etc. at every complex, so I guess no matter where I went I'd be faced with that kind of thing. The rest sounds good though, thanks :)
