Put Virtua Fighter 2 or Fighting Vipers on XBLA/PSN with online for a relatively cheap price and watch it then become king of the online brawlers.

Well why have virtua fighter 2 when 5 runs rings about it.

Yes it does but it was already released and it died a death on release even with online play because paying €60 for a game in a genre that hasn't changed in over 10 years doesn't make sense. Now paying just over a €5 for a game that was perfect in its day is fine with most people

Fighting games have hit their peak, you only have to look at how rubbish the last Mortal Kombat was to see that.

But mortal kombat has always been crap.

Mortal Kombat maybe crap but the new releases and the XBLA/PSN games still sold better than Virtua Fighter 5.

It's completely obvious to everybody but Sega Japan that Sonic as a 3d platformer doesn't work. So why not remake the last 3d Sonic game that worked 100% - Sonic R. Don't touch the graphics except for giving them a little pollish and make it work online. Put it on XBLA/PSN for 800 points and you'd have an instant smash hit.

Sonic R was terrible and why not just rerelease Sonic the fighters, which was a much better game then sonic R

For the same reason you said Outrun was a better choice than Daytona because its more well known. Sonic R was released on the Saturn and PC. Sonic the Fighters was never released outside Japan because it was crap.

Now I've mentioned Nights on this tread before so i'll just say this, Put the Wii version on the true next gen consoles with graphics befitting said consoles and advertise the hell of it.

It wouldn't sell well, the saturn version would still be better!.

If you advertise like Nintendo you can sell any old crap. You cant say the Saturn version would better if you don't have the new game to compare it to.

Outrun has been announced for XBLA/PSN for later this year but i think Sega picked the wrong racing game. They should have brought Daytona back with 20-30 players online. It would be awesome.

Outrun has had a much more succseful run then daytona has, Daytona nowaday wouldhave to much fearce competion, in this day and age! and outrun is just a fantastic game! always has been from the mastersystem to psp

Outrun 2 Coast to Coast is a good game but put next to competition like PGR, Forza or Need for Speed and you can see it just didn't sell enough. The reason being that it didn't have a hook to make it unique. Now putting out Daytona with 20-30 player online is just different enough to make it interesting and the Nascar loving Yanks would lap it up.

I'll be the first to admit that Sonic R was a handful to control nut not impossible. A new release could easily fix that. Don't forget that it was limited by the Saturn's digital and analog pads. I think (although i'm not certain) that Sonic Riders was point to point racing where as Sonic R was lap based.

Now with 99.9% of Retro remakes/ other retro compilations, are usually always worse then the original, for one reason they don't care if they are good or not!. While with Nights on Saturn they cared a whole bunch, canceling A damn, Sonic game! for this Untested formula. because back then they had alot of stake on said games, just like these other said games

    Capcom classic collections 1 & 2.
    Taito collection
    sonic Mega collection
    Sonic Gems
    sega classics

The only time where compilations have been fantastic
    Sonic jam sat
    Capcom collection 1-5 sat
and the Sega ages.! sega saturn

see, all the games mentioned would probably just be done very bad!. like burning rangers ect. ect., sega hasnt got the power it once had!.]

    Just stick to the originals!

I think your missing the point I was trying make. My orginal post was just a wishlist games I believe could turn a profit if rereleased. You say 99% of Retro releases/Complations aren't as good as the orginals. I disagree I believe that 100% are not as good as the orginals. They can never be as good as you remember it to be. That's not to say a remake can't be fun. When you think of an old games you are blinded by nostalgia.

A perfect example is the orginal Doom. A landmark game in its day and still pretty playable today. However because of the games that follwed we can never really see Doom in the way we did back in the early 90's. Half-Life is now the benchmark that Doom once was.

Most intelligent gamers know that Sega hasn't released a good game since 2001. When the Dreamcast died so did Sega. We don't say it out loud much but we feel it everytime a crappy 3d Sonic comes out or a half arsed Megadrive complation. In saying that though any real Sega fan believes that Sega can make great games and will again and that one day even if its 50 years from now we will get SHENMUE 3.

Sticking to orginals is not a viable option as consoles and games are perishable. The Saturn only sold about 10 million units. Thats only 1/10th the size of the PS2 user base and who knows how much the Wii will sell in the end.

I don't think Burning Rangers would have even sold half a million. I'd imagine that only 10% of the copies sold are still working and in circulation. Thats only 5000 copies left of a great game. Because of its rarity it sells for ridiculous amounts on Ebay. Meaning only collectors will pick it up and possibly not even play it. Thats not what Sonic Team intended when they made the game. They would have wanted it to be played by as wide an audience as possible to appreciate how good it was.

Remakes and Collections(to a lesser extent) while never as good as the orginal still serve a purpose of showing old and new gamers alike that older consoles had some cracking games.

Valkyria Chronicles, Panzer Dragoon Orta and Outrun 2 say otherwise. Sega still have great teams it's just that they aren't being given the budgets that their more casual orientated teams are getting and they also broke up a few of their better teams like Smilebit. Pity they haven't released nearly as many quality titles as their dreamcast days and so much money is being pumped into Sonic Team who have lost the plot and are continually raping the Sonic franchise.

I played Burning Rangers there recently and I wasn't impressed. It's aged really badly.

Haven't touched that in years, but I've always suspected the camera system would be a nightmare compared to modern games.
I still love the concept and the some elements of the game design such as the rescuing of survivors and getting letters from them.

It could be savage on a modern console.

I always thought a fire fighting game would be amazing and very atmospheric especially with todays graphics on the modern consoles. The last one I played was Firefighter FD 18 on the PS2. It wasn't bad but it just got very repetitive and the levels were very samey. The bad voice acting and script were comedy gold though. The Boss battles were fantastic though and it's a pity there weren't anymore.

It's a real shame that the only good firefighting game was the firemen on the SNES. That game is fantastic but unfortunately doesn't work on emulators. There's a strange rain effect in a later level that emulators can't emulate.

    Best game ever!

Remember reading an article about that game. Think Seanbaby did it. He said it was one of the worst games ever. The computer cheats like crazy so only every 1 in 20 times you'll win and the girls will strip for you. He said it was rubbish because if you wanted to sit down and have a good, eh, fiddle you weren't even sure you'd get any decent material. Porn was better. Apparently.

    Bring Back Sonic R!!!!

I loved that game, especially as, at one time, it was the only new game I could buy for the infernal machine!

I recall getting it and Burning Rangers, another great game, and reading an Edge interview with some Sega Europe bigwig and she was classing the Saturn as a "Gamers Machine", a death sentence if ever there was one!

But I digress, Sonic R, get rid of the pop up, keep the music! Put it on XBLA with a few new tracks, lovely jubbly!

The only other good 3D sonic was the smashing orangey bit in Sonic Jam, also on the Saturn, it would bring a tear to the eye of a Sonic fan, what could have been...

Instead we got Sonic 3d, a remake of a Megadrive game, for shame Sega, FOR SHAME!!!

A Sega Ages collection for the PS2/3 would be cool, collecting even un-updated editions of Saturn classics would be supersweet, heck, a proper Nights game, to take away the bitter aftertaste of the Wii game would be perfect!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,912 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Didn't like sonic R other than the music which was so ear splittingly bad that it became hilarious. Looked absolutely gorgeous though.

dont think it will ever happen, saturn architecture was very complex, thus it was much easier to port megadrive games to the ps2/ps3,only way i think it would be done would be if they wrote the programs from scratch on ps2/ps3
