I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but I'm going to ask anyway:

How come you need to join the Merrion Club, when (AFAIK) it no longer exists?

    I am missing something, aren't I?

*Officially* it is reopening in the summer.

Yeah last year was like that and I defo think it should be looked at.....I'm not giving out or anything....Its just a fast structure.

the jump from 400-800 to 600-1200 can catch you off guard if you don't know about it before hand (which I didn't last year).

There should really be a 75/150 and repeat 150/300 with ante level

    - Runs very fast - missing 75 / 150 and a double 150/300 with antes in @ level 5 Jump from 600 - 1200 from 400-800 is huge if u stay average stack up to 400 -800 the jump will hurt u and u need to be ready for it and start movin which u should not have to in the first day of this type of event- Cant have the Irish open being tarnished as a Crap shoot This needs to be the event we all stride to Compete with but with those blinds I really dont know - I hope to play in this but it makes me have to think about it for the money u have to put in - Not Giving out as its only my opinion and im guessing what will be said is that it was this way last year, u will get through the field very fast here i reckon, just think u should look at it

To be quite honest I am shocked to see that structure. Talk of this being Europe's premier competition is laughable if day one puts that amount of pressure on stacks so early. Utterly disgraceful. I'm in for €200 which is great - but anyone who invests a significant amount of money is getting shortchanged.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 329 ✭✭DocO

ppp - please re-assess this for the sake of your reputation of hosting the best game in europe.

surely the blinds arent set in stone, and you can see the very valid point being thrown at u . .

    ... Karl?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,404 ✭✭✭Goodluck2me

for a 10 seater it goes from 450 (150-300) a round to 850. thats a very steep jump imo.
6 hours into the 4 day tournament you have 1150 a round over 10% of starting stack. surely this is too fast?

Will the structure barr the time frames be the same for the supportign events?

I really thought thy would include the missing levels after last year it was the only compliant that players had and with this being a 4 day event there's no excuse for leaving these levels out. please listen to the players, "we want these levels included"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,724 ✭✭✭nicnicnic

here's a super structure for a €500 event surely paddypowers can match this for a €3500 buy in

Hey Karl just adding my voice to those supporting the changes.Just qualified tonight and had a look at this thread to see what i was in for. Bit shocked at le lack of 75/150 level and no repeat when antes introduced. I play a tourney EVERY MONTH with a buy in of 200 EURO which as a much better structure(Clock length aside) (i am referring to the S.E deepstack tourney). I am sure with 4 days to run and many paying 3500 in that there would be little problem adding levels. It can only add to the prestige of the event

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,394 ✭✭✭robinlacey

i was definitely going to play this tournament, but i'm having second thoughts looking at that structure

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,454 ✭✭✭hf4z6sqo7vjngi

    karl,

agree with prevy posts, such a large buy in should not force players to sweat their chips early on day 1 anyways......i have one ticket (tribeca) and have a question...if i was to continue to play the weekly sunday final what would happen if i won another ticket? can i cash in the full package?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,187 ✭✭✭Flushdraw

Just adding my concerns along with all the previous posters. The omission of the 2 levels concerned is a disaster and with so much choice out there for tournies, its going to be hard to fork out E3.5k to play this crapshoot when that same money can fund you for BigSlick Poker and GJP festivals which both have amazing structures.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 329 ✭✭DocO

any chance of a reply karl??

i really think you should listen to the voices of the players . . . im very close to selling my ticket to be honest - that sorta money isnt something i plan on investing in an inperfect structure, and i presume alot others are the same . . .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 490 ✭✭Russh

Just like to add my voice to the concerns expressed over the missing levels and aggree with all of the above. Compared to value of already mentioned Tournaments, this looks very poor and unworthy of €3,500 buy in. Surely at very least we should have same structure as EPT or 'BETTER' (considering prizepool).

Again just my views....for what its worth.

I'm half thinking of coming over for the PLO event, I'd imagine this is unlikely to be filled, but just checking in case, would i need to pre-register?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭karlh

Sorry for delay- here's the story. Although the prizepool is guaranteed to be huge and we're planning to put on an amazing festival, there has to be a slight compromise to get the main event finished within the time we have to work with. I would love to have every level possible with 2 hour blinds but it simply isn't possible.

The 4th day is just for the televised final table which leaves 3 days of play to get 700 players down to 6. There were few grumbles about the structure last year and this year it will be better despite having double the players! After consulting with the tournament directors, the structure will now include an extra 150/300 level with a 25 ante.

Overall, this is still a deepstacked (10k), long level (60 mins), well run tournament which is dripping with value. If we dont make the guarantee which is a disctinct possibility there may even be an overlay.

If you compare it to the EPT3 Grand Final there is 60 mins of play less. http://www.europeanpokertour.com/EPT3_montecarlo_structure.html
They have a 75/150 but every other level is the same and their considerably bigger ante structure makes both essentially the same.

In the grand scheme of things this will be the best structured Irish Open ever. It's not possible to keep everyone happy but thanks for your feedback and I'll post more details as I get them.

Any questions or comments feel free to PM me.

$1 Freezeout on Monday 5th Feb at 8pm on PPP btw - ticket guaranteed, reg now open

Why not get rid of the 25/50 level and have the 75/150 instead.

Essentially the 25/50 is a waste of time anyway.

This is a great idea that I would definitely agree with.....I have suggested it at tournaments before but have been met with cries of horror from players.....

Anyway I can't wait for this tournament......The fact that that level has been added makes all the difference but I think people shouldn't confuse value with the longest structure possible......Its definitely not a crapshoot but I wouldn't mind winning it even if it was.

Hats off to PPP......There's a reason they are number one in Ireland at everything they do and thats 'cos they gots guts......

This tournament is brilliant for Irish poker and unlike the EPT events it will give players that travel from overseas a chance to actually play against Irish players.

Lack of interest, we thought running it as a super sat would interest some players but it would seem not. We withdraw it with one registered player rather than running the risk of it cancelling itself with 7 or 8 players.

What the hell? I was looking forward to this. Was this tourny even advertised anywhere apart from a single post in the middle of this thread? Or did you expect PPP players to check MTT tournys for unusual events all the time? I am annoyed, stuck home with nothing to do.
