Pubs Open On X-Mass Day, Yay Or Nay?

Christmas Day - they should remain closed.

Good Friday - they should open. It's not 'just one day of the year' - it's the Friday of a bank holiday weekend when lots of people are off work and some of them would like to have a drink.

Nothing like a nice couple of drinks in the local on a Xmas night after the whole Santa/play with kids - drink/play with kids - dinner/sleep for an hour or two - more drink followed by tea - play with kids again, another couple of vodkas - get kids to bed routine.

Been in this situation for manys a year and on a few occasions myself and her who must be obeyed headed to the local about 9 in the evening returning about 12 midnight and I have to say that it is the most relaxing and enjoyable drink I get from one years end to the next.

All the more sweeter when you know its illegal

So my vote was "other". I think the pubs should open from about 8 - 12 Xmas evening and ensure strict enforcement of those hours

I live in a pub.Most publicans welcome the day off as they only get wo a year.My dad has a rural pub and hasn't been on a holiday in three years.It is right for places to be closed on Christmas day.It is all about being with your family.

I think pubs should be closed because of family reasons - like the people who work in pubs might like to spend the day with theirs instead of dealing with other folks getting away from theirs!

Of course they have other days off but unless they can get a day off that is not Christmas day & convince all their family & friends to have the prezzie opening, dinner, etc, etc on that day instead of the 25th, it doesn't really work does it?!

Anyway, if Christmas day opening was widespread..(a) many pubs just wouldn't bother opening (b) Most staff would not work so Christmas opening is an oxymoron anyway.

Once or twice, on Christmas Day, I wished the Off Licence was open. If only I'd prepared better................
