Was this in the UK or something? AFAIK they only got up to FTI by the end of 1986, and that would too late for a Mk. I Golf anyway. 16 TI or some altered number would be more plausible - I think TI was used around 1980.

Perhaps it was a 're-issue' of the 1965 Limerick reg 'GTI 1'.

I know of a guy who somehow got the 1965 reg 'GTI 205' (from a Morris Minor) reissued for the Peugeot 205 GTi !

(He must have had a good "friend" in the motor tax office ;))

What sort of car had the 'SI 1' reg ?

I recall seeing a BMW series a few years ago with the plate - SIII.
It was either 'SI 11' or 'SI 2' arranged as SIII !

It was on a wine coloured Ford Sierra hatchback, what a waste, I tried to buy the car years ago to transfer the reg but the owner wouldn't sell it.

Are you sure it isn't Bertie Ahernes new number so he can get away with breaking the speed limits when ever it suits him?

Garda drivers junkyard - not Bertie, (he doesn't have a driving licence). Gardai (while in the line of duty) are exempt from most of the road traffic regulations anyway.

Did you ever 'transfer' a registration, or know of anybody who did?

If so, What was the procedure?

I got one done around 1984, it was a real cloak and dagger affair, it cost me a couple of hundred pounds at the time and I had to know a person working there to get it done. I don't know what the big deal was or is tbh, they could make quite a bit of money out of it if they wanted to.

That car looks too modern to have that old Limerick Registration (unless it's a foreign one?).

Saw this one in Greystones today, somebody taking real liberties with the font and spacings! According to the tax disc it should be G 11 NTM!

I presume that somewhere there must be a latvian car with the reg FU 2 :D

    fu2pn8.jpg

I just checked and the reg FU 2 is issued in the UK and is currently on a 1992 Merc 600 SEL!

To imitate the S4 logo, look at the badge on the left....

When he was doing it he should of at least got decent quality plates made! These ones are delaminating...

I was in Cork City today and spotted a very rare plate, a Kuwaiti one . It was on a Black Mitsubishi Colt (LHD) that was parked in the Wilton Shopping Centre around 2.30 to 3.30ish. A number plate from Kuwait was a first for me anyway. I snapped it on my phone.
