Tonight (22:15), TG4 is showing A Scanner Darkly: Richard Linklater's version of the Phillip K Dick story, about Big Brother and drugs. Keanu Reeves is very good as an undercover cop who loses his perspective entirely, and Winona Ryder is great too. It uses a "rotoscope" process, painting over live action frames, and the whole package is seriously mind-bending, so I recommend you watch it sober.
    stunning.

    Saturday 22:05 TG4 Dark Blue

CH4, 12:45 tonight: if you haven't seen Cop Land, I recommend it. Sylvester Stallone in possibly his finest straight performance, as the police chief in a small town just across the Hudson from New York. His problem is that a lot of NYPD cops live there, some of them corrupt, and not a day goes by when he isn't reminded that he was rejected by the NYPD for medical reasons. It's only a matter of time before things come to a head.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

    — Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Astronaut
