One time, when I was just a kid, I was walking towards the kitchen door when my brother on the other side decided to kick it open in a karate kid show-off thing. The corner of the door hit my forehead and split it open in a gash several inches long. It was probably the most painful experience of my life.

But then I clicked on that link, and I realise now that I knew NOTHING of real pain. Those sites are disgusting. Did you get the colour scheme by throwing up on tartan fabric?

I've recently joined some of my friends on the Bebo website, which I'm sure many of you have heard of! Now I'm wondering if it's too good to be true. It is indeed a fun service and a good laugh with friends, but surely there must be negative aspects to it all?

Do any of you have any opinions on Bebo or do any of you know if they're involved in sending out spam / hijacking your address book?

(Perhaps this topic would be better off in the computers section? Feel free to move!)

Joined it but still haven't made up my mind on it!! Something a little off about it!!!

I hate them all. MySpace, Bebo.. they're all shite as far as I'm concerned.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 121 ✭✭LORDOFDOOM

If you look at 2 profiles at the same time on bebo it gets REALLY messy. I don't know how anyone can handle it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

yeah, they hijack your address book and send out dozens of 'x invites you to join Bebo, join Bebo now' type emails to the people on it.

just make sure you never type your email address/password anywhere on it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭abercrombie

i joined bebo recently too :D i think it's grand

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 753 ✭✭✭Font22

i think its great, keeps distracting me from study tho! are those emails not set by you (as in the person with the profile). i know thats the only way my friends found out i was on it.

I got one of these emails from somebody while I was talking to them on msn. I told her to sort it out. God damn spam.

It's a pretty good service considering it's free. The emails that it sends to the users are pretty annoying alright, I keep on getting one with "Ch-ch-changes" in the subject line and it puts the David Bowie song in my head every time I see it.

*Great! The damn song's in my head now

its really good, great way to have a laugh when bored...all the whiteboards end up with willys drawn on them tho, in my experience that is

I joined it myself a few weeks ago and it seems ok. And those emails inviting people to join only get sent if you choose them to be sent, I have the option to send them or not anyway

My account was hacked this morning, im so pissd off! I went in and some c**t was after writing nasty sh*t all over the place, deleted all my photos and friends etc. Then I changed the password, and just deleted all the sh*t he wrote, then 5 minutes later he was there again, wrote up a message saying 'i'm still herethanks for all the email info and credit card information' this freiked me out, so I immediatly went and changed all my passwords. The only place i'd have my credit card info is on play.com and amazon, and they dont even show the credit card number so I think i'm safe. But I'm a bit worried he has my personal info.

Ive just read up on bebo, and it seems its vunerable to attacks of this nature, so if you are going to join, make sure you dont give out any personal info, actually just dont join at all!

lets be honest. It's horrifyingly addictive. Has a few bad traits though, Emailing at every opportunity and messying up once you try to look around someones friends list, while having a second open. There are a LOT of people using it though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Dizzyblabla

I'm joined wayn aswell, which is pretty good, lots of info in people's profiles, and really handy when you go on holls, my sister went to Estonia(or somewhere like that) and a girl over there booked the b&b, told her how to get there, what to do, everything! thing is, you also have people asking you for info on holls, and some use it as a dating site almost, it's kinda funny!

As for Bebo, if people could see my pics without having to sign up, it would be so much better....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,692 ✭✭✭Loomis

Joined ages ago.Don't actaulyl use it for much but the little feature where they notify you of a friends approachign birthday is quite cool. And handy :)

if i get another email from Bebo telling me that X has invited me to join i swear i will track them down, i will hunt them out and i will not be responsible for my actions...
my friends have not specifically asked Bebo to send an email inviting me; it's just because they have added me (and therefore my email) to their friends' list and since my email is not recognised as being registered with Bebo the damn f€ckers keep nagging me.......ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh /me mad

You DO have to specifically invite people by email. If your friends claim otherwise its because they're idiots.

I think a main part of it is basically it's an online contact book...you have your friends all contact details as opposed ot just a telephone number with a phonebook...telephone,mobile,address,e-mail...

Are you a member of www.eurobilltracker.com aswell???? I like this site. Sort of strangely addictive.

well I check out what photos my friends took last saturday and I copy the ones I like.
All most everyone I play frisbee with has the photos I took in scothland at holloween on their profile.

also Ive found friends through friends that I havent seen in years.

and Ive actually leanred a good bit about ppl in my course who I never rally hung round with but I have a much higher opinion of them now.

    Its a fun site.
You DO have control over who you invite.
You CAN email ppl without giving them your email passwords, do it manually.
Changes notification in an option in YOUR preferences. Turn it off if you want

I joined myspace there a few months ago because my brother had moved to the states and it was a good way for us to keep contact! Otherwise I didn't have much use for it! It got really annoying actually after a while I kept getting emails for every message received or an email when someone wanted to be my friend!! But it's like everyone just clicks on everyone and asks them to be their friend! People have 100's of friends on their lists and haven't even said hi to anyone!!
Oh and then there were the messages from the dirty old men!!! Ugh!! I just found the whole site pointless really.... I've never tried Bebo!! I'd love to actually understand the whole thing though!! :)

everything can be enabled/disabled in the accounts control panel. i used to get 40-50 invites a day of people till i disabled some of the options. then disabling invites from bands helps too.

Myspace kicks ass, never thought i would say that but it does.

I joined it recently. All I know is I use it for photo sharing with mates...... or else I'd be waiting 3 months to look at party/holiday foties.....

My friends of friends of friends of friends profiles are hilarious/upsetting .... 16 year old girls showing themselves in their undercrackers as their primary photo and pictures of their kids in the albums
