PS5 ready Tv’s/Monitors

I know there is an existing thread that was initially set up for the PS4 pro etc but thought with the bookings going live yesterday it might be an idea to set up a thread where people can post TVs or monitors they come across which will allow PS5 owners get the most out of the software.

I’ll need a new tv or monitor anyway but no idea which to go for so be good to hear people’s opinions.

Assume the essential things to look out for are 4K, 120fps capability and 2.1 hdmi?

Anyway, feel free to post up links etc as you come across them. I’ll start searching myself over the coming days and will add them as I see them.

Not too many monitors yet for HDMI 2.1.

Only ones are so far

Eve spectrum 4k 27" ( about ~$600 but it's a small company so limited stock and international shipping, and also maybe never coming out)
Acer XV282k KV 28" ( extremely expensive ~$1.3k)
These are 144Hz

Asus have 3 new models , 27-, 32- and 43-inch from a so far unnamed & not priced line that are HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz

Plenty of PC gamers seem to be using that LG as a monitor now too, according to various forums anyway.

I saw a few people say that getting a ps5 is a waste if you don't have a 4k monitor/TV. Would people here agree with this? My friend only has a 1080p TV and it seems the cheapest 4k TVs start at around €300-350 and he's not sure he can afford that and a ps5.

No, some games will be offered at a higher frame rate in 1080p. Perfect for older TVs.
I would suggest if you were to upgrade, spend the extra to get a TV with hdmi 2.1. the TV will last a lot longer then as it has features like variable refresh rate and 120fps at 4k.

1080 supersampled resolution at 60fps is still going to look great.

Games seem to offer multiple modes he higher frames rates (limited to 60 for older TV) and possible Ray tracing.

I think you only option would be this:

They aren't TVs, but are TV sized.

I don't think there are any proper TVs, that are 144 hz, the most you can get is 120 hz, and that would the new LG OLEDs, and maybe some of there LCDs. I think maybe some of the new Samsungs as well.

I need a new TV for PS5 as mine is old and I'm more confused then ever now. I thought I just needed a 4k one. Didn't even know HMDI 2.1 was a thing! I thought the playstation did the frames per second, not the TV?

Various TV support various 50 hz, 60 hz and 120 hz modes.

You ideally want a TV, that can do HDR, 4k @ 120 fps, and some form of variable refresh rate. If a TV has all that, it will have HDMI 2.1, just make sure all the HDMI ports are 2.1.

A lot of the newer high end TVs will support all of the above.

Also, if you are not getting an OLED, and getting some kind of LCD, I would make sure it has good local dimming and a good contrast.

I've ordered a Sony XH90 today.
It's due to get hdmi 2.1 capability once it gets the Android 11 upgrade.

Not necessary but I'm happier upgrading to a TV with it and not having to upgrade for a long long time again.
Also, variable refresh rate is a pretty good feature to have in a TV.

Can't be affording this at mo given I've just put order in for ps5, but on my list is to upgrade tv, current one still working fine but over 10 years old now! What kind of price range would you be expecting to pay? Probably be looking for around 40 inch size or slightly bigger

Probably helps to do research at home and be certain of what you want in terms in features and size. Or you'll do what I did and go in expecting to spend ~800 and end up spending twice that on something shiny I found instead

The richersounds guys on here seem to be a great help with any queries you may have, they have their own forum over HERE

I will be upgrading my TV for my bedroom fairly soon, great that it is tying in with the PS5 release. I play FPS on a 27" monitor thats just 1080p, but for single player games ill be playing it on the big TV. Will be keeping a close eye on this thread.

Assuming i can find a ps5, ill be playing on my not too old samsung.
A UE49NU8070.
Wont do 8k, but id say be good enough for my needs.
Plus i wear glasses, my eyes arent 4k :P
Does have hdr1000 but not the usb 2.1

I would disagree. Graphics will still be better. New games will look better. Interface will be better. It'll have exclusives. Having said all that, I'm waiting a year :pac:

Going from PS2 to PS3 was a HD upgrade so you really needed at a min, a HD ready TV to appreciate the graphics. Obviously a better TV will look better up to your budget limits but a min you really needed HD ready 720p.

For PS5 what's the min? Is it 4K to really apperciate the visuals? Will PS5 games basically looks like PS4 if you just have a 1080p lcd?

Of course not, there's far more to visuals than just resolution.

It'll be fine. There is no absolute requirement to upgrade your tv. Just cos the PS5 can utilize the fancy features of new tv's it doesn't mean it won't run fine on old ones too. The vast vast majority of people will be using it on their existing TV's.

I'll be upgrading to a newer TV when I can but no qualms using my current 4K 60hz LG until I do.

Going to keep an eye out and upgrade eventually. Happier now as read that even tho my TV is 50HZ it will support 60HZ also.

Samsung Frame and Q6 get that small. Both only 120Hz if that matters.

some 43" monitors too, if you got a saorview box or a chromecast/firestick for media that could be an option. Most 43" are well over 1k, only one that lower would be the Philips momentum 43" which is 500-600.

I've a firestick and another tv so it'll be just used for gaming.

Then Samsung Q60T probably.

There's the Sony XH800, it's a IPS screen vs the VA in the Samsung with means the Samsung has better blacks and colour while the Sony has better viewing angle.

When places open maybe go in an look to see the difference, also at those sizes there are difference to the larger ones so don't use a 55" version of either to compare if you're getting a 43".

Unless the room needs it I'd got for the Samsung and the VA

Yeah they're pricey but they look amazing. If you can get your hands on a 55inch LGC9 you'll save few shackles. Otherwise a 48inch LGCX would fit the bill. Still expensive though.

Yeah, I think I'm going to stick with my old Sony for the time being... my bank balance just can't hack it!

I did just notice there that the EU version of the Sammy is slightly inferior to the US version they tested, i.e. slightly inferior local dimming. Just FYI.

What are the important features or things to look out for in 4k monitors? Currently using a 1440p 144hz monitor but looking at "BenQ EL2870U 27" 4K HDMI HDR Monitor" for PS5 as its 4k and has a 1ms response time. Anything else I should be looking for ?

I picked up the 48" LG CX last week

Upgrading from a 7 year old Sony that was 32"

Blown away by the picture quality and black levels - 4K Netflix is awesome, base PS4 games also look great.

Can't wait to get it setup and calibrated for the PS5

Wow, going from a 7 year-old 32inch to high-end 4K OLED must have been incredible.

I have a 2 year-old 4K. So don't really need to update but oh that CX looks so so sweet.....

So got this delivered this morning, right in time for ps5 later in the week. Excellent service from Richer Sounds. Only had a quick look at lunch after setting up, but can already tell it's a mighty upgrade on my 10 yr old hdtv!

Any recommendations for best looking ps4 (slim not pro) games to feel the might of this when I boot up the ps4 later?

I was set to get the Samsung QE55Q80 t for new gen gaming but abit annoying only one 2.1 HDMI Port, abit annoying ! I see a few of ye got it how ye find it ? Was going get 49 inch but I see it doesn’t support 120hz so going have go 55 inch .

Will there be much of a difference to a casual gamer? Is it night and day between regular 4k? I've just a 4k tv at the moment with standard HDMI. Trying to justify the upgrade.

It will be a couple of years I feel before we see games outputting 4K at 120 FPS

4K at 60FPS or 1080 at 120 will be the norm for the start of this generation.

I've upgraded as my old TV was ancient and I'm future proofed.
