Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have to laugh at all the talk of a 147!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,907 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Missed maximum at 60 for Jimmy - but gets another chance.

Match level 3-3 (barring snookers Lilley needs four - 4 pointers)

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Jimmy definitely went for it though, the blaggard.

Twas early enough for lilley to be glimpsing the finish line. Just tensed right up, lost his rhythm completely, like he just suddenly remembered the magnitude of whats at stake.

Yeah, I edited it - after getting caught out with that yesterday , when Lilley played on for ages.

Jimmy potted the red this time, anyway.

Snooker scrambles people's minds so much.
It must be the quiet and a fella alone with his thoughts in the chair or on the table. No hiding place unlike a team sport on a pitch I suppose.

The way I look at it Ken should have had Two World Seniors won in a row.
    Oh and a sports car.

I'm not surprised his brain is fried, it's not just the prestige and the money, but automatic entry into every seniors event next season as well as champion of champions qualification. There's almost too much on the line there. If he copes with this and manages to get over the line, I'll say fair fcks to him. Fear for him now though.

Jayus, I knew about the Champions of Champions thing. Not the automatic entry to all the seniors events. Massive for Lilly in that case. Life changing stuff.

I shouted for Jimmy long enough back in the 90's when he had had hair didn't and did again.

Lilley back in front 4-3 fair play that was flipping edgy stuff.

Not sure how many seniors events there actually are, only about 4 main ones really i think, maybe more next season if things are back to normal, but it's a nice little bonus anyway.

Everytime I hear Virgo I think of four snooker things:

    1) Pot as many balls as you can you can

    2) Whatever you do don't hit the blue

    3) Where's the cue ball going?

    4) Auld snooker coach I used to go to - always used to say Virgo was a pro snooker player since xyz and only one tournament - because he had no back pause when he was addressing the cueball.

Lilley nearly at frame over, but leaves it awkward - great recovery.

49 on Jimmy needs two snookers.

Lilley reading out a list lovely stuff.

Thanks to whoever mentioned this on the main Worlds thread, I'd never have known about it otherwise!

And fair play whoever came up with the red button details!!

So chuffed for the guy, such a likeable fella and thoroughly deserving winner. To actually have made that list out before the match was a brave call mentally! Really enjoyed that match and speech.

Jimmy looks like he's cleaned his act up bigtime in recent years (I haven't been as avid a snooker watcher lately as before) - he was looking pretty well worn and a lot heavier last time I remember seeing him..... no more than Ronnie, he'd have a fairly volatile personality, susceptible to all sorts....

I'd never have said that of the choirboy Tony though :D

The way wikipedia put it on Tony Knowles was well written and concise.

"Knowles shot to prominence in 1982 when he defeated defending champion Steve Davis 10–1 in the first round of the World Championship, earning him overnight stardom in a period when the sport was reaching the peak of its popularity. His good looks resulted in his relationship exploits featuring in the tabloid press. After some particularly sordid revelations he was fined £5,000 by the governing body for "bringing the game into disrepute".

He has also battled and thankfully overcome throat cancer for several years which I’m sure will age anyone.

It's the shíte version of pool. It's like Rugby League where 8-ball is Rugby Union.

    It's on Sky Sports Action...

9 balls - set up as a 'diamond'

Break off - whatever is potted is potted. Then pot the rest in order.... So if the five and seven go in off the break, then pot 1,2,3,4,6,8,9..

Game's so easy that about 40% of the frames are 'runouts' (think that's the terminology) , ie whoever breaks off pots the lot, and the other guy/s don't get a look in.

The snooker referee Marcel refs some of them, so I guess there's that.. Comical setup - in Milton Keynes I think... Have the place looking like a 1980s joint, with fake jukebox and videogames as part of the scenery :pac:

They're playing doubles, and one guy takes a shot, and then his teammate. None of this 'stay at the table untils ya miss' craic :pac:

I reckon I'd do well at it myself, it looks that easy :P
    On Sky Sports Action atm..
Cos ya don't want to know what station it's on...

There's more strategy and safety in this than I remember from when Eurosport and Transworld Sport used to show it. Still gack though. That being said, it's on there in the background...

I dunno abut that, I think 8-ball/black ball (the version Ireland and the UK play) is easily the least interesting version of the game and is the 'rugby league'.
It's a bit of an archaic thing really - if the rest of Europe, North America and the entirety of Asia has decided that 9-ball is the game to play, we really ought to be questioning ourselves for sticking with our reds and yellows game.

I think even Sky gave up on 8 ball, they tried to big up a 'matchroom world 8-ball championship' about 15 years ago (Selby won it one year) but it was very much a North of England championship.

    I can't agree at all.

I think 9-ball is so dull. Tbh, pool is a shíte spectator sport and way more fun to play.

9-ball doesn't seem to make much sense in how it's played, ie. You can pot 1-8 then miss 9 and have your opponent win. Likewise you can hit your object ball and pot a subsequent ball and it's not a foul.

And don't get me started on that, what is it "push out"?

    It's nonsense.

    Anyway... When's the snooker back?

I start a new job on June 8th. I'm straight up to the club after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Gaoth Laidir

The pockets are so big in Pool that you can hit the cushion a foot from the pocket and it'll still go in. Nonsense.
