    What? 43?

    That's insane!

Most def :) Think he was an amateur all his career.... Maybe he used to be a pro 'back in the day' - I don't know..

I thought it was strange myself when I saw it :D

Lilley miscue at 20 up - Ken blessed again!
Ken throwing away his first good chance with an in off following bad positional play.
But Lilley breaks down after a long red opener initially.

Ken left right in again - awkward table - with two last reds tight on cushions.
Sorts the 1st red - safety bout on last red. Ken won the tactical battle.

Somehow it is Lilley 3 - Doherty 2
Lilley seems like he is feeling the pressure.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Lilley doing well here for a man who's "career highlight" so far is turned professional at 43 :D ... He's 45 now

    And in Ken's box - 1997 World Champion :D

In again, is Ken... He's gotta capitalise here.... Two tricky reds - well three... Surely he'll not clear up.. Nice pot on the red.. Great cannon on t'red from black..

    Gwan Ken!

Lilley has a wiki page anyway -

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lilley_%28snooker_player%29

Seemed to have a good amateur career

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lilley_%28snooker_player%29#Amateur_finals:_12_(5_titles,_7_runners-up)

I heard Rob Walker introduced him as - '2016 Indian Open Quarter-finalist' (his first ranking tourament as a pro)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lilley_%28snooker_player%29

It took him 30 years to be a pro.

That was some opening red from Lilley in the previous frame (given the circumstances/quality etc,, ) And then to miss that red with that miscue.. Watching these boys is a good advertisement for just how hard this game is...

And another great red from David, but no posi.. One point is all he got from it though.... Ken's gotta feel that the nerves are getting to his younger opponent..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,932 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

Wow, two shocking misses one after the other from both players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,912 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Anyway nerves getting to both lads easy shots missed.
I think Lilley will make more mistakes and basically help Ken.

    That is my theory anyway.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Ken in again surely he will click into survival mode now?

Feck sake Ken gone for the safety, he will win this frame two pots a visit if he has to.
But now he has left Lilley in who misses.

They might as well take the pockets away for a while.

Ken's too crafty to go for them mid-range straight pots into middle bag from a diagonal type perspective...Runs away with his 13 point lead.. I think Lilley's run out of puff.. Missed that red by some margin.. Ken's to lose, it looks like; as strange as that may seem... Funny old game..

I've just been on their reading it. I just liked the idea of a randomer deciding to pick it up at that age.

I wonder is Cliff watching over in maple leaf land.... Apparently he invented that 'glancing escape off 2 cushions shot' :p

    And that pink... FFS :pac:

Taylor a bit bias for Ken!

Ken break to make it 3-3 and I kind of at a loss to explain how. He has been all over the shop.

Lilley is still looking for snookers on my matchroom stream.

Sure it was Dennis that give him not one but two nicknames.
Darling of Dublin and Crafty Ken

Years ago on Doherty's wiki page they used to have an asterix beside the nicknames

    *only used by Dennis Taylor

Always used to make me laugh - easily amused.

Ah he needs four snookers, no notion of getting them. I thought he was going to concede!

Even Dennis is getting impatient now telling Lilley to clear up, and move on to the next frame.
    He doesn't.

Great shot Ken :pac: A 'forelong' conclusion after that, eh Den? :p Everybody's getting tired and rattled with the overdue delay to this frame's end :pac:

Every time they say the sponsor's name. My brain says nice of Ronnie to sponsor it - fair play....

That Lilley fella got a great plant, one a pool player would be proud of awkward.
Fortunate for Ken he is going to get back to the table.

And that last green, christ that was brave.

    Ken only himself to blame.

Ken won't be listening to this song for a while after missing that pink

That was hilarious, Ken missed that pink by a mile.

4-3 Lilley who said he played rubbish.

Two years in a row in this when he just completely folded with nerves, when he should have won. Signs not good for the main tour.

Great ambassador for snooker, he has nothing left to prove. No point humiliating himself further, nice sideline commentating for the Beeb so there's a handy few bob in the bank.

We knew that from watching this last year :pac: Fair play for him (and the rest) for competing; but the standard is moderate at best..

Walker disappointed the match was over before 'witching hour' :p

    Mon Paddy Wallace :)

I want Igor to win it now.

That Jimmy White has won it three times and back to back. He has enough World Titles as far as I am concerned!

It was gas though he seemed to have the shots and his head just melted completely once he lost that first frame. He looked really edgy.

Is there any rule about drinking during a frame?
Maybe a whiskey before the walk on music would sort him out, or maybe orange (vodka) like his hero Alex used to drink?

Ah feck, I was out until about 8 and completely forgot to tune in again!

Well done ye all on the commentary, gave me a flavour of what it was like.

    Shame Ken lost!

This Igor v Jimmy game looks good so far 1-0 the Whirlwind.

Plus I think Patsy should be kept on with the commentary on the regular tour. Commentates like a snooker fan would.

Can't agree on Patsy - but it's a good match alright.

Some great long pots from both of them.

Igor getting the chances from Jimmy. But not taking them
Jimmy gone 3-1 after a topsy turvy frame where a lot of shots were missed by both players.

    Why?

He's not out there embarrassing himself.

The seniors title is the last big thing he needs. He was always going to be a bit tight in that match.

When you see how easily they run out of position, it really makes you (me) appreciate the precision of the top players.

They make it look so easy!

Same with Hendry. Always making the right decision, but the execution left him.

    Sats after four frames -

Jimmy on 90% on the pot success, Igor on 78%
Safety of both lads in the 60's. Jimmy high 60's Igor low 60's.

Maybe not on the main tour, but great for the likes of this.
