Down to the last four in the Wexford SHC after wins this weekend for St.Martin's,Rapparees,Oylegate-Glenbrien and Naomh Eanna.

It's a wide open championship. St.Martin's are the defending champions and favourites, but have never won back-to-back senior titles in their history. Rapparees last won a senior crown in 1978, Oylegate have to go as far back as 1963 for their last taste of championship success, but Naomh Eanna have never won it.

Caught two games in Wexford Park on Sunday afternoon myself. Oylegate beat neighbours Shelmaliers 3-12 to 2-12, with full-forward Podge Doran scoring a hat-trick to bring his goals tally to ten in the championship thus far. Shels hit 21 wides in total-many of the snatched variety- and probably played the more cohesive hurling. Ross Banville scored a brilliant goal for the losers, and should develop into a tidy player.

Gorey (Naomh Eanna) look good in the second half when defeating St.Anne's 4-17 to 3-11. Conor McDonald was on fire with 2-6 from play, and he was ably abetted by Cathal Dunbar and Padraig Doyle amongst others. They actually were poor enough in the first half-hour, with Liam Og McGovern and Diarmuid O'Keeffe doing damage as Anne's deservedly led 1-9 to 1-7 at the break. But Gorey scored the first 1-3 without reply on the resumption, and it largely a formality when Mac smacked in his second goal on 33 minutes.

As I said earlier, Martin's are justifiably favourites, although Rory O'Connor is reportedly injured for the rest of the year, and Jake Firman is suspended for the semi-final, so they aren't as infallible as they once were. What is evident though is that all four semi-finalists have perhaps the youngest average age in the competition, which points to a changing of the guard.

Tyrone Senior Quarter Finals set up for next Weekend. Carrickmore and Dromore both beaten art the weekend. I think its the last we will see of Conor Gormey and Ryan McMenamin who both appeared for their clubs. Still playing and must be pushing 40 at this stage.

Couple of interesting games. Winners of Galbally/Edendork will the one team everyone wants in the Semi Finals. Edendork probably slight favourites.

Ardboe/Trillick will be interesting. Ardboe have some really good players, but always talk of issues within the club etc.. With Mattie Donnelly and the two Brennans I think Trillick will come out on top. They will be fancying themselves to win it, having been playing well in the league all year and winning it a few years ago as well.

Killyclogher/Omagh is a big local derby. Lots of county men on display ( Bradley, McCannx2, Meyler, McLaughlin, O'Neill, McDonnell as well as McMahon/Grugan/Carlin/Fox/Swift(all ex county), should be quite a battle. The last two winners of the competition. Very hard to call but Omagh definitely better in the league so far.

Errigal/Coalisland. Errigal are favourites, beaten finalists last year. Top of the league and probably slight favourites over Trillick to go all the way. Led by Peter Harte, with some great young players as well. Although Coalisland already beat a good team in Dromore, and are always up for a battle. Beaten finalists two years ago, so could be a good game.

A Very competitive intermediate championship this year. All to play for. Eglish probably favourites. But a tough game against Gortin who have been going well.

Was at the Sunday matches also. Hard to see Oylegate winning outright anyway, Shelsmaliers drove an awful large amount of wides and the second goal that Oylegate scored came from a free right at the end of the 1st half that was a questionable decision by the ref. Ref was poor for this game, bottled sending off a Shels player after Oylegate's first for an extremely wild swing and then proceeded to give Oylegate the benefit of the doubt for a lot of questionable decisions. Oylegate aren't a bad side but look behind the Martin's and Naomh Eanna at least. Shels can concentrate on the football now for which I think they have a great chance.

Naomh Eanna were behind at half time but stormed to a comfortable win in the 2nd half. Very strong forward line with MacDonald and Dunbar causing a fair bit of chaos. The defense isn't as good however and allowed a very average St Annes a good few goal chances.

Would agree with Martin's as favourites although Naomh Eanna are definitely a threat although the defense needs to improve. I haven't seen Rapps yet so I can't really judge them. Can't see Oylegate winning outright.

Meath SFC Final will be between St. Peter's Dunboyne and Summerhill.
Dunboyne emphatically ended Simonstown's 3 in a row bid with a 14 point hammering. No Shane O'Rourke or Conor Nash proved too much for the reigning champions. It was a good day for Dunboyne as their second team won the Junior football championship after beating St. Vincent's after extra time.
Summerhill made the final for the second year running with an easy 9 point win over Donaghmore/Ashbourne. There'll be calls for Barry Dardis to be in the Meath squad in the new year after he scored 2-6.

Mickey Burke added to his impressive haul of titles with Longwood yesterday. He's won a Junior B football championship, a Junior A football championship, an Intermediate hurling championship and now an Intermediate football championship. It was their first IFC title since 1942.

In Clare senior foootball is down to 4 - Cratloe, Kilmurray, Miltown and Ennistymon - draw is on tonight.

Intermediate hurling is down to 4 also - Scariff v Feakle and Corofin v Tubber - both on next weekend.

Senior hurling semis on next weekend too - Saturday is Ballyea v The Mills and Sunday is Cratloe v Kilmaley.

Intermediate football final I think is in 2 weeks between Kilrush and Kildysert.

Eire Og won Junior A football final yesterday and Inagh Kilnamona won Junior B hurling final on Saturday.

The Wexford senior football final will be between Kilanerin and Shelmaliers, with the former defeating St.Martin's by a point and the emphatically latter dethroning defending champions Starlights.

There has been a recent trend of the reigning Intermediate champions acquitting themselves well in senior the following year. In fact, St.Martin's and St.James' both won senior titles the year after winning intermediate. And coincidentally enough, Kilanerin have twice achieved this particular feat in their history, winning the senior in 1974 and 1993 the year after winning intermediate. Matty Forde continues to make headlines and is among the top scorers in the championship at the ripe old age of 38. They are looking for their eight title overall, and first in ten years.

It will be the first time Shelmaliers will compete in the senior final, having failed to surmount the semi-final hurdle over the last decade. They have been the most impressive team in the championship so far, and are hoping to add the football title to their maiden hurling crown they won in 2014. They probably have more balance over the field than Kilanerin, and have big names in every line, though the great unknown quantity of county final day may swing the tie in the Gorey district side's favour.

The senior hurling semis pit Naomh Eanna (Gorey) against Oylegate Glenbrien, and St.Martin's vs Rapparees. I will preview them later on in the week.

Ulster Club Championship blown wide open last night with Slaughtneil getting beat, going for five in a row in Derry and 3 in a row in Ulster.

Tyrone teams rarely do well in Ulster, only Errigal Ciaran winning it back in 1993 and 2002. Not sure why. But with Crossmaglen and more recently Slaughtneil not many others have won it.

Tyrone Senior Semi-Finals this weekend.
Defending champions Omagh beaten by Killyclogher last weekend. And favourites Errigal Ciaran/Trillick also beat.
Again shows the competitiveness in this competition. No team has defended the title since Carrickmore in 2004/2005 ( im fairly sure ).

Killyclogher probably slight favourites now having gotten to final in 2015 and won it in 2016. With Mark Bradley and the 2 x McCanns as well as Swift/Carlin/Bradley all very experienced.
They play Ardboe on Sunday. Ardboe have been going well and done really well to beat Trillick last week. Kyle Coney probably their main man. But ably helped by Shay McGuigan and David Mulgrew.

Other semi final is Coalisland v Edendork. Edendork done really well to get this far. But Coalisland are rightly favourites. They were very unlucky not to win it first time out in 2016 before being well beat in a replay with Killyclogher.

Intermediate Semi Finals:

Tattyreagh v Gortin

Gortin possibly favourites now after beating Eglish last week.

Oylegate last played a senior final way back in 1963 (they won it that year), while Gorey have never progressed beyond the semi-final stages- this will be their fourth attempt. Naomh Eanna have won the last two championship meetings between the two, although their last game can be written off as it came in the group stages when Oylegate had already qualified and so rested a few starters.

There was much controversy over Cathal Dunbar's transfer to Gorey at the start of the year, and he has been a huge foil to the excellence of Conor Mac at full-forward. Oylegate have their own dynamic no.14 in the form of Podge Doran, who has scored ten goals already in the championship (rather fitting that Doran be blazing a trail at full-forward for Wexford eh?

) Nerves will surely play a huge factor on the day, and while Doran will take minding and may necessitate a tactical tweak, I still feel Naomh Eanna are on the cusp of making history.

St.Martin's vs Rapparees: both sides looking for a complete turnaround of fortunes after being eliminated in the football semi-finals at the same venue last Sunday. Word on the street is that both camps have been focused on hurling the last couple of weeks, which smacks of hurling snobbery, particularly in the case of Rapparees, who were defending senior football champions.

St.Martin's, by all Chinese Whispers, are set to be without the talismanic Rory O'Connor and will definitely shorn of Jake Firman through suspension. Those absentees will test the belief that they have envious strength in depth. Rapps won three premier minor titles not that long ago, Liam Ryan's and Kevin Foley's age-group, and that talent seems to be coming to fruition lately. Will be a closely fought game, that may come down to who has better consistency from frees. Tight one to call- St.Martin's just.

4:00 - Tyrellspass V Mullingar Shamrocks - Shamrocks prob got further than most thought but unbeaten Tyrellspass should be too strong. Would be the third final between the pass and Lomans in a row

2:30 - Shandonagh V Milltown - Shandonagh should ease into the final here as they try go 1 step further than last year
4:00 - Caulry V Milltownpass - Should be a tighter game with Caulry slight favourites imo. They are trying to return to the senior ranks on the first go

Improved a lot throughout the year by all accounts, they were terrible early in the league stage, but this is probably the end of the line for them. Wouldn't have enough to trouble the big two from what I seen in the quarter final.

Pats raced out to an early lead in the first semi but Glenealy never really looked in trouble and won handy enough in the end. Shock in the second one as Wexford beats Dublin by 2 points in a really good affair. Sets up a final we've seen many many times before

Thurles have been skating on ice all year, Kilruane should've taken them out at quarter stage, only for Ronan Maher to win it with a last second goal.

Clonoulty v Nenagh final, neither has won since the 90s.

Nenagh are a nice hurling team, a dry day in Semple should see them win only their 2nd final.

Didn't attend either game as I had prior arrangements, but I believe the first-half of the Gorey-Oylegate was dreadful stuff only to make way for a far more entertaining second-half. Cathal Dunbar will be a loss in the final though (if his red card isn't overturned), and with St.Martin's laying down a marker in their semi, I can see them taking home back-to-back titles for the first time in their history.

Ballyea and Cratloe will play in the Clare SHC Final next Sunday week. Tony Kelly scored 1.9 from play against The Mills on Saturday. Cratloe beat Kilmaley by a point yesterday.

Feakle and Tubber will play in the Intermediate hurling final, which I think is down for Saturday week, after beating Scariff and Corofin respectively at the weekend.

Kiltale made it 5 Meath SHC championships in a row on Sunday with a 2-18 to 14 point win over Trim. It was looking good for Trim as they were 3 points up early in the second half but they were outscored by 2-10 to 3 points in the last 25 minutes or so.
Kiltale were average to poor in the early part of the group stages but have really gone through the gears in the last four games with no team getting within single digits of them.
Really hope that they can go well in Leinster. They were very close against the Kilkenny champions for a few years but were well beaten last year. If they managed to get by them, I'd fancy them to win the All Ireland.

Couldn't go either. Rory O'Connor featured in the 2nd half for the Martins, scoring 2 points. Not bad going for a lad who was supposed to be sidelined till next year.

Gorey will really be up against it. Nice to see the green and white flags out already though.
