Sleety snow in South Leitrim. Scratch that, snow. Sticking.

    Bitterly cold.

still completely avoiding all the showers here in Meath with showers going north and south of the county all day. Very good drying conditions here now with the sunshine and gusty winds helping to dry things out temporarily.

not expecting much if any showers for the rest of the day here, we are stuck in a narrow lane of dry conditions between Meath and north-western Mayo.

There is currently a lane of showers between south Dublin and south Mayo and another between Sligo and Dundalk.

Drove over to Knock Airport to see the retired airbus and see some snow( there was sadly no snow), then on to Foxford , Pontoon and Castlebar. Showers were all of sleet and hail. There is a nice bit of snow on top of Nephin, though!

    .

You're not missing out on much. Showers that pass over here are a messy mix of everything and a whole lot of nothing.

yes I see this happen so much. We tend to avoid alot of the big showers in Meath. Which of course can be good or bad. In this case, bad!

East Meath getting it now too so must just be avoiding certain parts of the county.

Heavy hail followed by big flurry flakes for a while in Kildare. Sky was bright with all the white, back to blue again now.

Showers are coming fairly quick, tomorrow could be bad for driving to work if there's more tonight.

Just viz dew points, the GFS paints a far more rosey picture for this afternoon...

    20022515_2500.gif

Just comparing the 3pm predicted dew points with the actuals, GFS had things about 2c colder than turned out to be the case. This is why we need to take some of these model's predictions with a large dose of salt....

it's good and bad. bad in that I'd like to see at least a few flakes today! Good as it's not raining and the footpaths, roads, pavements are drying up as we've had generally a very sunny day today, well over 5 hours of sun so far today.

It's the same story with the ECMWF:

Both these models have a habit of overdoing low Td's and underdoing high Td's. Best way to use these models regarding these parameters is to see them as nothing more than a rough guide.

The far north of Meath has had a bit of luck and getting into that shower lane from Sligo to Drogheda. The other shower lane is from Galway, through the midlands and into Naas and Wicklow.

you could have more big showers later too with a large area of showers pushing from Sligo into Leitrim. Should reach Cavan, Monaghan, north Meath and Louth within the next hour.

South Meath and Dublin looks like staying mostly dry over the next few hours.

All precipitation in Sligo town is sleety rain

    Its 5c.

This is a non event here. I should have stayed up on Sunday night.

Colder temps further South and East. Even 10 miles east.

compared to the potential showing yesterday evening in the charts today has been very disappointing.
