Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Davies has been one of the best backs in the world the past 2 years. I saw Beauden Barrett said he thought he was the best player he'd played against.

Sam Warburton is considering taking a year long sabbatical (talks of retiring at 30/31). Its on rugbylad twitter but there is quotes from sportsmail attributed to Warburton

I wouldn't believe a word from rugbylad but the guy needs to do something. Only plays a handful of games each season due to so many injuries.

If you had Munster going up against the Barbarians I'm sure the attendance would have been a bit better, even if they only had a skeleton squad.
Munster v Maori all blacks last year was a sell out in a similar situation without the internationals.

6 months means he could be back for Scarlets' run-in. It would be a pity for the Pro14 if he's not involved by the playoffs.

Bulls vs Stormers pre-season game to be played in LA in February 2018 alongside a USA vs Argentina "XV" game.

Ioane should cakewalk the promising new player award.

Sam Cane for me. Very surprised he isnt there.he smashed everything that moved this year.

Started with Henshaw and continued on in the same vein. He’s a terminator.

As a point of fact, Sam Cane was not smashing Robbie Henshaw to start with. He was desperately hanging on to Henshaw as the Irishman scored the try that put NZ out of sight in Chicago before he ever illegally targeted the great Irish hero. What our esteemed poster is referring to was a sad and desperate attempt at revenge having been so badly humiliated 2 weeks previously by the very same Irish legend in a historic and completely legal encounter.

P.S. Sincere apologies to the decent Kiwis here. You know I don't really mean it.....

Ah the All Blacks have no interest in him. He's 26, they could have capped him at any time, but now he's going to Wasps and has English parents... suddenly he should answer the call of the silver fern?

It's amazing that he hasn't been capped to be honest, he's definitely good enough.

I thought he had played a couple of tests. He's been the squad a few times. Surprised he was never capped. He's a loss to NZ rugby.

Townsend fears for Scotland team if players keep leaving. SRU in a weak position. They cant hope to compete financially and its unworkable to have a similar approach to IRFU either.

I don't quite understand why Scotland can't afford to keep their players. They only have two clubs, and most of their players wouldn't be as sought after as ours so I reckon the average wage of their international 23 is less than ours too.

Given the provinces are funded by the union, and the union generates revenue through ticket sales, TV rights and a few sponsorship deals surely Scotland are in a similar position to us. They have a big stadium, they own, and they sell out regularly. (is the average ticket cheaper)? They're in all the same leagues as us, so get the same revenue share (we get slightly more from Europe per club I guess). Do we do much better with sponsorship than they do?

The attendances for Edin and Glas were genuinely ****e (between 2 and 3K) up until recently, that's got to be a factor.

They do own Murrayfield but I thought, like Wales, they had a big debt on their books for a long time after they built it. In 2005 I think they still owed 20mil on it.

The Scottish Union still owe 5million or so on Murrayfield and attendances has to be a factor. Glasgow attendances are much better than what they were but its still only about an average of 7000 or so a game.

Do they try like we do?

They have only 2 teams so they need players outside Scotland to provide depth for the international team.

That said the Irish provinces get much better Attendance. More people would attend Leinster Munster than would attend all of Edinburgh or Glasgow home leage games in a season. Probably similar ticket prices too.

One of the problems for the Irish Pro 14 teams (and NZ super rugby teams have the same problem, especially with their SA counterparts) is that it becomes less appealing if the opposition becomes too weak: losing Russell, and I see in the same article that Johnny Gray has also been targeted, weakens Glasgow quite a bit. On the other hand, a chance for a new player to put his hand up, I suppose.
