Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's ironic that a thread wherein crappy fakes were being flagged for a larf has become in some ways a defense of fakes, for some.

Would counterfit goods be discussed in a good way, in any other forum?

I'm not defending them. They're illegal and I think the main problem is what someone said earlier, the talent and work that goes into them could go into making some nice lines of gen watches.
I will however correct people when they say they're "worthless" and others when they say you can't service them when clearly both are wrong. It's weird to me, simply explaining something and they don't want to hear it so just reply with the word "bullshíte"

But reps are discussed on lots of other forums, I know a good few people who have bought fake football and rugby jerseys and they all said they'd never buy a gen again. Might be banned on boards, but on other forums it's common enough. But watches are different as people buy them for the name and craftsmanship. Most people couldn't care less when it comes to things like jerseys, it's not like adidas are known for their amazing craftsmanship.

Just on the jerseys, there is a very, very long running thread over on the soccer sub-forum here on where and how to source fake jerseys, training gear and even boots and runners.
I will say I am writing this post whilst wearing a dodgy Liverpool top, in anticipation of tonight's match too ;)
Helps me feel a bit more Scouse :P

Boards.ie's enforcement of closing down fake discussion is very hit and miss IMO.

There is a site wide rule that on some subs, is strictly enforced. IPTV and pirating being an example of threads being shut down extremely quickly.

Others such as the jersey thread and a few fashion and beauty threads I've seen in the past are all treated with a nod and a wink.

On this sub, the view is fakes are shíte and very good reason.
I am glad however to see a discussion that lays out a bit more of the thinking on both sides, that said me and my fake as fúck 'pool shirt ain't buying no Ronex ;) :pac:

The watchmakers by post does raise an interesting dilemma too IMO.

You are a talented highly skilled craftsman, in a world where there is less and less demand for your skills.
Be it via a reducing pool of mechanical watches and watch owners, or the imposition of manufacture service centres and warranty additions for official servicing.

I can certainly see why, with fakes using ETA Sellita or their clones, that you might service such watches to keep an income.

I don't think anyone is defending fakes. I certainly wouldn't and wouldn't wear one if you paid me. On the other hand there can be some defensiveness kicking in with fakes. Understandably so, for a few reasons, mostly the devaluation of someone's real example, but saying fakes can be serviced by some watchmakers, or that a subculture exists where fakes are "valued" doesn't mean that's a promotion of fakes, it's just a fact. A sad fact to be sure.

I got fake kits for the kids. At €15 delivered instead of about €70. Multiplied by each kid. Handy, they have a few jerseys each now. I think 90% of jerseys kids you see around are fake to be honest, once you know the tell tail signs you notice millions of them around. I wouldn't buy gen ones unless it was a similar price. Handy for retro jerseys if you're into that. Ones you either can't get or go for crazy money.

Jerseys are seen as easy to buy, you can go onto lots of popular sites and they're available. So maybe boards don't seem to bothered by it. Where the rep watches (good quality reps) are a little bit harder to find, just googling it won't turn up anything trustworthy and the sites that sell them regularly change domain.

Not exactly a Rolex but why would people bother selling fake Hugo boss watches????? That particular watch is retailing for 450 he’s hardly still making a profit even if he is getting them direct from some lad??

He seems to have sold a hell of a lot of watches and his reviews are good

Good value or just w really good fake?

Arguably not good value even at 140ish...

To answer the question of why sell fake Hugo Boss watches - because it makes money :D - there are fake Sea-Gull (Chinese brand) watches and fake Seiko 5s being sold too...

It is an awful lot of watches to have sold - but the thing with many fashion brands is that there's almost (or actual no) difference between the real and fake - they are produced in the same factories potentially - it's all coming from China anyway and made cheap as chips.

He did sell a Tissot at 120 too: https://www.adverts.ie/casual/tissot-man-watch-no-box/16159965 - is that suspicious?

I know for a fact that Fossil's automatic: https://www.adverts.ie/casual/fossil-automatic-man-watch/18563033 - is legitimately a Chinese producer (had known about that factory too). They recently shut down after the coronavirus hit and Fossil decided to cancel their contracts - everyone lost their jobs as a result.

Datejust on presidential bracelet.....I thought that configuration didn’t exist.

Seller had good feedback though. Perhaps a loose watch matched up with a loose bracelet...

    Edit

Seems it does exist....was sure it didnt, a 69128

This configuration could always be got in lady DateJust sizes.

Bit optimistic on price have seen a few around as low as €6500.

If ever we thought fakes were easy to spot...
Panerai have apparently shared a fake on their insta and catching a lot of lols for it.
Spotted it over on Reddit and thought it might be of interest.

I'm not surprised - that AP would be snapped up pretty quickly with its industrial look. There's a charm to watches that have been made of spare parts from boilers.

=Yeah but posting that a rolex is fake when its 130 euro is laughable. The forum is good and its interesting to see the expensive watches been caught out. You dont need a degree in horology to know that a solid gold rolex doesnt go for 50 quid for example!

Fully agree, we all love laughing at €130 awful "homages" and enjoy seeing posts calling them out. It's our equivalent of the skangermobile thread on Motors.

The best thing about this forum is the lack of snobbery and judgement. We all have a common interest and a nice €50 Casio gets the same appreciation as a Patek/AP. Leave your nonsense comments at the door if you want to participate. :pac:

Cheap obvious fakes are usually posted here to draw attention to them for the many moderators that operator on here from adverts.

People are pointing out the obvious fakes to get them removed is all.

I don’t see anyone “arriving breathless” to the thread announcing they have discovered a fake that no one else could see. The post just before your was more highlighting how bad a fake it was and how expensive it was for a fake.

My feelings ain’t hurt but I am enjoying watching you chasing your tail. Your posting history on the forum is littered with asking questions but you continue to **** on it.

    This is hilarious.....

Look TheW1zard...the adverts mods watch this thread to get rid of fakes, people post all the time low cost fakes just to get them gone off adverts. Done deal does not unfortunately have such a strict rule about copyright infringements, so if anyone googles the link they might come across this and save themselves. For as many dumb sellers selling obvious fakes there are as many naive buyers, of buyers that will buy it for 130 and next thing its up for 4k on adverts.

I know you point was "pifft...sure anyone in their right mind would know that fake, thanks sooooo much for posting horology experts" but you can see that thats a childish thing to say, and you got called out bad. Stop digging.

Exactly, the bad fakes are the best bit! Most people wouldn't spot a good fake from an adverts photo if it was selling at the price of a gen. The low price is the giveaway for a fake.

I come here to laugh at the shítters. The worse, the better.

Yeah, I always came here to point and laugh.

Used to get peeved at posters that didn't take a screenshot before the advert was zapped.
