Lovely commentary moment. Mike Gatting, Ian Healy and Shane Wayne reminiscing about “that ball” at Old Trafford. Great discussion and mutual respect is impressive.

England's bowling has never looked capable of getting the Aussies out twice, or even close.

Slightly of topic because the Ashes are just too grim, but the coverage of the Big Bash is really good. The 3 man team works well, and I really like when they have the former English players too.

Enjoying the Big Bash (not that I think the transplantation of the franchise idea to England is a good idea), fills my midweek mornings nicely while I wait for the NRL to restart :)

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

If you don’t mind listening to Australian accents, I don’t, it’s very interesting commentary. Little spoofing and some good cricket. Good to see the talent of Khan on show - still not sure many like his glare.

312 is the average first innings total at the SCG

Mitchell Marsh got 101, bowled by Tom Curran off the next ball. Now 558-5

It's been a very disappointing series, a terrible England team making a poor Australia team look good, I think Steve Smith is the only player from both sides that would make a current world eleven.

Hoping the South Africa v India series is better and the return of AB de Villiers is looking good..

If you're talking about a current world eleven, surely Lyon is in there too? Leading test wicket taker for 2017.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if England regain the ashes in familiar, helpful conditions in a couple of years time, I think we will see them pass back and forwards for a while. England have no pacey enough bowlers to trouble the Aussies down under and the swing in England is generally too much for the Aussie batsmen. We shall see.

Not sure what your point Is? That was the second innings, England scored a generally decent total for this ground, the bowling attack letting them down, yet again.

Visually 346 didn't look enough, tailenders hitting 20 or 30 doesn't win tests. 83 was the highest score, even though a lot of them got starts. Decent score OK, just not decent enough.

Ah you meant you didn't think they scored enough runs, yeah of course. Agreed especially with how they have been bowling they needed a much bigger total on the board.

It was an above par score for the ground, that is a separate thing though.

Yep, think that the top order wasted starts, Root is ill, didn't resume, but may bat later, its now 109-4,80 overs left

    144-5 off 75. 61 overseas left

I was talking with an Indian colleague this morning, he said the same thing. Home advantage is massive when it comes to Tests at the moment.

Highest attendance figure over the series in the 1930's

One sided for sure, but Australia are not good away from home, all out in 18 overs at Trent Bridge in the last series. 2019 will be interesting. Also, the Aussie first XI are strong, but the next level don't look to be

At this stage are there any Test sides that are actually consistently successful away from home though?

The England bowling attack will be far more effective at home alright. I don't think it'll make as much of a difference for their batting lineup and there still plenty of problems there.

Bayliss is going. After the next ashes in 2019.

Love the way he's scapegoating the off field woes as a big issue. They were pretty trivial this series and I think it's him moving blame.

Tells you all you need to know about Bayliss really.

Good article on the difficulties of winning away from home, I wonder what the stats would be like if the away wins against the weakest test nations were ignored, as they likely squew the stats a fair bit!

South Africa were really impressive for so long away from home a few years ago when they had a beast side e.g winning in Australia, England and drawing in India. The retirement of a few players however seems to have ruined that though.

England absolutely destroying Australia in the first ODI. Record England ODI score for Roy.

After the Ashes humiliation, England's one day team under captain Morgan have made a remarkable turnaround and are absolutely stuffing the Aussies at the MCG in the first one-dayer.

Jason Roy is currently 180* and Joe Root 74*.

    (Kev beat me to it!)

England win the 2nd ODI, Aussies set a score well below par, restricted by the turn in the pitch and England's spinners, having failed to pick a specialist spinner themselves.

I know it's a different game (well, kinda) but it makes me wonder whether it would have had any effect on the test matches if the ODI's had been played first? That said, there are a few absentees from the Australian side..possibly as a result of their exertions in the tests....

And England are missing Ben Stokes, although it is hard to see where he would fit in based on the last three performances.

    Eoin Morgan is a genius.

Today's victory had added sweetness - the Aussies were in touching distance throughout until about 5 balls to go

The balance in the one day team is spot on with contributions from pretty much everyone in the 3 matches to date with bat or ball or both. Today it was Buttler with Woakes chipping in and useful contributions from most of the batsmen. Pity Plunkett picked up that injury. I'm guessing Curran will come in, but maybe there could be a call-up for David Willey who is currently playing in the Big Bash League

Willey has been pretty average in the big bash, but I'd still give him another go. Even though he plays for some insignificant team in England these days.

Good one day series anyway. Very good win today from where Australia were in their run chase.

    4 - 1 series win.

Maybe England need more Irish in the team :pac:

I think England should just play Australia in a 21 match one day series!

The Pomettes are in deep water against the Aussies. The delicious Ellyse Perry has taken 5/18 and they're currently 38/6 chasing 270 to win!

Update. England fillies 75 all out. Perry 10-4-22-7 her career best ODI figures.
