Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He seems like a half decent fella he has clearly engaged and lowered rent on other properties.
Not all landlords are horrendous tbh

correct, it doesn't matter. It's just the was he says he has "one or two properties".

    He does sound genuine overall

    The persons predicament hasn't changed....
Translation the tenant was on social welfare and he/she has just decided to stop paying it during this crisis.

    Good man Richard.

Clearly the house wasn't maintained for the tenant and he's been legally obliged to repair the house which is unfit for occupation. The tenant, who has the right to live there, was correct in non-payment while the house was uninhabitable.

This guy is unbelievable. Just because you have an asset and pay taxes doesn't entitle you to operate outside of the law.

"I've worked hard, that's not really anybody else's business"... Well it becomes that if you're repeating it as a reason for you to have some sort of diplomatic immunity.

If it was Jimmy's full paid for house it would be a different story. Pretty transparent populist move on his part. He can f**k right off.

During the national emergency, wouldn't the tenant have been getting €350 a week if they had been working before?

Less than 500 quid a month - that's a small enough rent these days, especially around Doobalin.

That is a stretch...when has there been any indication of that? He just said the tenant was coming to him with requests now despite the fact he/she is paying nothing towards rent and won't engage with him.
The landlord seems reasonable he said he cut rent on the other place he has by 50 percent.

    Hang on missus.

She was working in a hotel so she would have been eligible for €350 a week unless she was getting paid cash.

EDIT: and wouldn't have needed to pay for childcare while she was off either

Jimmy is talking nonsense.....he clearly has zero sympathy for landlords.
    This landlord seems reasonable.
The landlord is clearly willing to engage and reduce the rent.

When my excellent Baltic tenants cease renting from me I swear I will sell the place for fear of getting tenants from hell. As it is, they follow traditions of their home country by repainting the interior fairly regularly.

People can sit in a property for well over a year without paying anything.

    350 a week wouldn't cover my rent.

Her husband didn't lose his job.

Husbands salary + €350 week (with no childcare) surely would be plenty to pay rent and live on.

EDIT: sorry we are talking about the original caller.

    Long may they stay
I had tenants from hell - way very difficult to get rid of them

The property is now unoccupied for years and I am happy

    No stress

Not only that but I had to fight with the agent over the rent not getting raised during the emergency. I had to email her links to citizens information and RTB. Her response was "Oh, I'll have to check the legislation myself".
