Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Historical data shows it's about the 15th time in 3 years they have dropped to that price on sale.

I can't see or vouch for that seller tho.
There's currently Amazon, 3 with 200+ sales in last year & 1 with 23k sales in last year.

Could've been just a sale but then yis are saying his other prices looked ropey so I dunno.

    Neways, presume everyone's running:

I've enough headphones to keep me going really for now, but thanks for the suggestion. It'd be a verry special treat to myself to get the Shure's so just gonna wait and see if that day ever comes, priority over that is a better speaker system for home though :o

Didn't go with the K371's in the end after reading issues with their build.
Ordered a pair of HE4XX's off Drop instead.

Has anyone seen this German guys youtube channel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oP1c32RgPs&t=1134s

He critiques many audio gadgets but when it comes to headphones he's managed to find a way replicate the sound sig of headphones - which you have to listen to with headphones obviously. He usually does this with comparing 2 or more headphones at a time. Quite a unique thing to do. Obviously the effect can't be completely accurate but I thing it would give you a good impression of how a headphone sounds. His bi-aural videos are fun to listen to as well. Again you have to listen to those with headphones.

So. Got these earlier today. I have to say that these are the best sounding pair of headphones i have.

The instrument separation and soundstage are magnificent. It's like your head is filled with music. An absolute joy. So happy i went with them and for the price i don't think you'd get anything better.

Yeah that's why I'm interested in them. I love my HD6XX but they don't have good soundstage. In fact they are quite poor in that respect for an open headphone. My X2's which I don't have any longer were much better in that regard but I didn't think they were audiophile grade besides. Seems like the HE4XX have all the good qualities of the 2 cans I mentioned in one package.

Problem is now that i still want to get the DT1990 Pro's but i'm afraid they won't sound as good as these. I love my HD650's too but the sound on the HE4XX's is just my perfect sound. The headphone rabbit hole is deep. :D

I still want to get the DT1990 pro too but got my eye on the Audeze LCD-2C. Enjoying the HD6xx's. They defienly sound better after a few weeks of being broken-in.

Just looking for peoples experiences regarding the 3.5mm jack being remoed. I got the P30 pro last week and I'm very happy with it so far. Camera is fantastic and is very good in general. Upgraded from the S8+ and really feel the difference. My only issue is the lask of 3.5mm Jack. For anyone that has used the phone long term, how do they find the port for listening to music? I never charged my phone and used it at the same time for fear of the charging port breaking on previous phones. So my fear is using a connected earphones into this slot may break it over time. whats people opinion on using it? is bluetooth earphones reccomended to save the slot from over use?

Have the same phone myself and had the same concerns. I never used the set that came with the phone and just bit the bullet and bought some wireless headphones.

Started with the Sennheiser CX 7, which were around £90 on Amazon at the time. They were ok, but I have wired iem Momentums, and even though they have that Sennheiser sound, they were lacking compared to the Momentums. The mids sounded a bit muddy to me.

So for on the go and gym/running I picked up a pair of Bose Soundsport Free. I find them much better in terms of sq, but they are fair manky looking and stick out a good bit. Fit is decent though.

If I wasn't going to use them for sport I would probably have went with the true wireless Momentums.

Any owners here that could recommend me a DAC/AMP combo or seperates to get the best out of them?

    Budget probably 300

I have a P30 Pro myself and find the audio very poor. Very muddled with poor clarity. Dolby atmos just makes it louder with more bass. I'm trying to pick up an LG g7. Best phone I ever used for audio..

I presume you'll be hooking up to a PC? If so i'd recommend the below. One of the one's i own and it's served me well.

I paired my HD6xx with the Schiit Asgard 2 and modi dac
The Magni 3 and modi 3 would be a good combo
    https://www.schiit.co.uk/dacs/modi-3-Silver
    https://www.schiit.co.uk/headphone-amps/Magni_3_plus
Cheaper option is the Schiit Fulla 3 https://www.schiit.co.uk/schiit-gaming-products/fulla-3
The JDS Labs " The Element" also is a great Amp Dac combo. http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/jds-labs-the-element-headphone-amplifier-usb-dac-copper-ring.html

So. Got these earlier today. I have to say that these are the best sounding pair of headphones i have.

The HE4XX does't seem to be available in Europe on the Drop site. I'm wondering if that's because they are sold out or what. Where/how did you get yours if you don't mind me asking?

Really, when are they shutting it down? They have the HD6xxx back in stock on the EU website. https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx-eu

Just before the end of the year, looks like 25th December is what they are aiming for. Anything listed on the EU section they are trying to shift as they don't want to ship it back to the US (no discounts on sennheiser though). They are trying to make it more affordable to ship from US to EU however.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/eaqz6y/dropcom_will_be_shutting_down_its_euwarehouse_for/

"We've paid VAT to move everything there, so we'd really rather sell the products within the EU, than move them back to the US warehouse... so all the prices are slashed significantly."

Wow, they have cut the prices, The LIQUID CARBON X + SDAC DAC/AMP at 250 euros is a steal at that price. I might grab the AKG K7xx while it's there.
Anyone wanting a good pair of headphones should be lookiong at the HD6XX at 223 euro's. I've had my pair for about 2 months now and they really are worth it.

FWIW, I got my pair back in '17 when they were still called Massdrop and had them delivered via DHL Global Mail. Even factoring in the additional shipping and tax they're still fantastic value for money and I'd echo Grahamer's comments on their sound.

My only complaint was cable length which is considerably shorter than I'm used to and came with 2.5mm plugs which, from a cursory glance, weren't cheap to replace. Thankfully they've since switched to 3.5mm so that shouldn't be an issue for new owners.

Yea. The cable is quite short on them. I tried to find a replacement one with 3.5's on it but could only find 2.5's for not insane money.
Just went with a 0.5M extension cable for them in the end.

    Hi folks,
Long time lurker first time poster (I think!).

I'm in the market for a new set of overear, closed back headphones. I've had a set of Audio Technica Ath-m50x for the last number of years and love them. They're just about coming to their last legs so starting to research an althernative.

I'm tempted to go for another set of the m50x's - the only thing holding me back is that they're huge. Any recommentations for alternatives would be great so I can start looking.

They would get very heavy usage so I need something durable. Very broad genre taste too so looking for an all rounder of sorts.
    Cheers,
    GG

Would they be for home use or out and about? I'd give the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro a look. Quality pair of closed backs.

Hey folks, just looking for any suggestions on what might be a good idea to do with a pair of Shure E4's I have? They are almost 15 years old at this stage, but still working fine. I haven't used them regularly for years though.

The nozzles as pointed to in the picture below, have gotten blocked before and I managed to get a pair of nozzles from Shure which when replaced, allow the earphones to work great, but it's not something they stock or sell anymore as it's a discontinued model.

They cost about €300 new and I was thinking to sell them on due to lack of use, but I'm just not sure I'd get anywhere near a decent price for them and may be best just to keep them and accept that the replacement nozzles may get clogged again and I won't be able to replace them and it'll render the earphones useless :(

    Any feedback would be great!

Thanks a million for that! The DT 770 were on my list. Interesting read here on the 80 ohm Vs 250 ohm. I tend to go down a rabbit hole when it comes to anything audio/music. :o They'd be used for everyday use so mainly out of the house or in the office.

I picked up one of these Fiio BTR 5 during the week, and I have to say its a fantastic little device. Been running it with a set of Momentums, KZ ZS10 pros and AKG K712 pros and it sounds lovely.

I've also ordered a cable to connect to my phone for when I'm in the office, not sure if it will add anything over the bluetooth, but a great device for the price.

I know there will be some on here who mostly listen to flac but what streaming services do people find best.
Right now I have Tidal hifi, spotify premium and amazon music(trial).

Tidal sounds better to me than spotify but I know it's not because of the lossless audio quality.
I've done other tests and I can't tell the difference between 320kbs compressed and lossless. There is something else that makes spotify sound harsh to my ear. Even Amazon music at 256kbs sounds better to me than spotify at 320kbs.
I think it might be down to the source used for the tracks.

I won't be renewing amazon music as I hate the interface.
Tidal is what I use on my PC as it sounds great but it's not good for exploring music that's not R&B or Hip hop.
I use spottily on the go for the features it has and although I said I didn't like the audio quality I can't tell on the earbuds I use.

I use Spotify Premium and love it personally. I definitely wouldn't be a snob about the audio equipment i have.
With a bit of messing around with the in built EQ on it i find it sounds good enough for my ears.

Did you try other services before picking spotify?

EQ was another topic I wanted to bring up.
I use Peace Equalizer in windows with setting from AutoEQ(https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq/tree/master/results)

It works really well and it's a nice improvement over windows default settings.
Has anyone else tried it? They have settings for many different headphones.

I've only used Google Play Music apart from Spotify and i hated the layout. Tidal really doesn't have stuff that i'd listen to.
I'm a big vinyl collector so that's how i do most of my listening but i love how handy Spotify is and it has everything i want from a streaming service.

I actually think that it is probably just my imagination about the sound quality problem I have with spotify, I don't see many people making the same complaint.
There's just something I find harsh about it and it's fatiguing over time.
It's only a problem when using my k712 pro.

Speaking of the K712 pro, I tried some YAXI earpads for it and didn't like them at all. They changed the sound but not in a good way, I found the treble worse without improving the bass.
If anyone wants to try them I have them on ebay and it does not look like anyone will bid so you can pick them up cheap.
    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/114118125996?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I do love the K712 pro but I'm already thinking of what secondary set of headphones I could get. I've considered the H6XX but since this is also a reference headset it may be too similar.
