Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Georgia Engel has died aged 70. Her soft whispery voice was probably seen more in TV over the years but she did have big roles in a few notable movie roles. You may not even recognise her straight away but once you hear that voice.

I always thought she was a tv (and stage) star only. The onlyh movies she seems to have done are tv movies.

I'd say her career is primarily TV alright but she has done movies, mostly animated, most likely due to her distinctive voice.

Awful. :( Two early fifty-somethings from the entertainment industry have died of strokes recently, Singleton and Luke Perry. Very scary.

I loved Boyz N The Hood. Contained the first explicit sex scene I saw in a film. I was around 12. Nip-sucking and all!

    Writer Alvin Sargent

Academy Award winner Alvin Sargent, who penned an extraordinary number of popular and critically successful films, from “Paper Moon” and “Ordinary People” to the “Spider-Man” sequels of the 2000s, died Thursday, his talent agency Gersh confirmed to Variety. He was 92.

Sargent won adapted screenplay Oscars for “Julia” in 1978 and “Ordinary People” in 1981 and was also nominated in the category in 1974 for “Paper Moon.” (He also received Writers Guild awards for all three films.)

One of the great jobbing screen hacks - could turn his hand to any style/theme at a high level.

I've always loved "Straight Time". One of the lost classics of the 70's.

I hadn't realised he wrote the story for What about Bob? One of the favourite comedies of my youth!

    RIP Alvin.

 There's nothing "less" famous about Doris Day. Even people who've never seen a single film of hers will know her name.

Depends on generation... for someone born in 21st century I doubt either her films or persona are on their radar.

It’s also good to post here anyway as some people (like me) might not always check the Forum main page. If interested in the person who died we can then review the specific thread.

    Aww. :(

One of my favourite sci-fi characters.

Watched all of 'Blake's 7' a few years ago when I had a dose of the flu. It's still a good show, even if it's laughable in many areas nowadays.

Such a gloomy series over all, with a brilliant ending.

Clicking on this thread, I was struck suddenly by the vivid memory of watching in bemusement as my dad tuned the radio for the death notices. I must be getting old.

I've thought the same thing myself. It is a strangely morbid interest.

Right, Olivia De Havilland really must be last woman standing now (although Miles was never one of the classic Hollywood actors as she only hit the silver screen seriously in middle age)

David Hedison has died at 92. He did a huge amount of TV work, but in terms of movies was probably best known as Andre Delambre in the original 1958 version of The Fly, or as CIA man Felix Leiter in a couple of the Bond movies.
