Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So I went back to meat. I had no option really, the canteen is completely meat centred and my cooking facilities amount to a microwave. I can't afford to eat out regularly either (****ty wages and paid monthly). If I'd gone on I'd probably have lost a horrendous amount of weight and come back with at least one deficiency. It sucks but that's life I guess. Will have to wait till I come home to go veggie. Also I want to point out, Spain isn't the most vegetarian friendly place but it's not impossible. I just don't have the resources. Obviously there are Spaniards who are vegetarian and get on fine. I'm in Lanzarote and there's both a vegetarian and a vegan restaurant on the island (just not near me).

I tried some camembert cheese today and remembered why I don't like it - does it taste very meaty to anyone else, its like a taste you don't immediately, but taste at the back of your mouth afterward. Horrible lunch :(

I started in reservation today. I like that it's completely different to working in the restaurant, especially since I already have restaurant experience. I'm there for five months though and it's not the most...er...stimulating job.

woah blast from the past, kellie and jim in the veggie forum :D

how's galway jim? What ya up to kellie?

never found that with camembert fillefatale, thats very strange, I love the stuff especially deep-fried drool.gif

Galway is graaaaannnndddddd. Especially the bit about being able to get a veggie breakfast in almost every cafe / pub! I was actually thinking of doing up reviews, but alas I'm lazy.

Just working and drinking apart from that. Glad all the summer fests are over now. They can be good craic but when the city centre is packed every night of the week and you can't even get a pint it gets tiresome.

Also I only recently discovered deep fried brie. omgggggggggggg

Yeah I've been away from boards for a while cos I'm not on my laptop as much!!
I'm doing great! I'm finished my degree now, got my 2.1 in English and Geography so I will graduate now in a few weeks. I'm starting my MSc in Climate Change soon too, I'm very excited! Staying in Maynooth for another year!

    How are you all keeping??

I've been a brutal veggie lately, I've been so lazy and I don't think I have cooked anything tasty in months! My pain condition is flaring up quite badly at te moment and would love a quick and simple recipe suggestion for some comfort food!

We should have a meet up soon? x

I'm the same, my cooking as gone out the window in the past few months. It's a bit depressing.

I thought I'd post it here too, seeing as you people understand that cats are the perfect living things!

I need to rehome an uber affectionate purring kitten. Thread and pictures here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=80704056&postcount=1270

I'd loooove to keep him but my ninja assassin badass cat seems to be terrified of him. >_>

Really, REALLY cute kitten!! :D Hope you find a nice home for kitty soon!

Tar, glad you guys had a great time over there!

I've been pretty vacant from this board lately, must rectify that.

I think we all have MoN.

aww that kitty is real cute with the little white paws. It is very hard when you have a cat for it to accept a new cat, we've had that problem at home, it would be years later and they would still be arch enemies.

That's why I got 2 together :D Here they are....

    YPIKZ.jpg

I call this spider-pillow :D Misa is real attention seeking, I think she has gotten worse, it's all my fault ofc :P

Your little kitties are so cute!! I would have loved to get two kittens in one go instead of one, but considering the circumstances in which I got Bailey, and the fact that I wasn't allowed to get two anyway, I just couldn't do it. I'm not supposed to keep this one unless Bailey is fine with him, but today they were playing together! :) He's been named Tesla. I might still give him away if someone really wants him though.

Your kittens are cool. Will you ever not have a favourite, or is that always gonna be the same? :)

Have they broken the feathery play thing completely yet?

Nice! I knew you'd take that name :) Its good that they get along, even if you do have to give him away at some stage. I guess it'll be good for both of them in the long run to have feline contact, for a while, or longer.

    Still, new kitty!

Did anyone go along to the vegetarian day event on Pearse St? I had planned to go but then I was up 5am this morning to bring my sis to the aircoach so that kinda made a shambles out of the day.

    I was there :)

Lots of food stands and information stands on the ground floor, with seating areas in the centre of it. Noticed that Blazing Salads, Dehli-O-Deli and Cornucopia had food for sale, some animal rights groups were present and there was a handmade soap company (I dont remember everything that was there).

Upstairs, there were public talks on different subjects, but I didnt have enough time to stay for one of them.

Very busy though, and that was good to see :)

sounds good, I saw they were screening forks over knives which I heard is good but I havent seen it yet. So it was just a thing that you kinda would just have a quick look about and that's it? I would have probably just been interested in some nice food.

just watching tar ironing here, too funny, even the cats are looking at him like wtf are you doing to that shirt :P

If I had remembered to bring more than 3-4 euro with me I'd have bought some of that food :o >.< It looked delicious, and you could get an amazing smell from the street outside! :D The fact the hurling finals were on today meant I couldnt stay to watch that, or to listen in on a talk :(

Ye it's awesome, I like buying something that's handmade by someone especially for you, I've gotten a few bits from it now, love it.

My sis is working in M&S in liverpool at the minute and she tells me that they're getting in vegan haircare soon so I'm guessing that will apply to Ireland too, a welcome step by them, it's mostly shampoos and conditioners though and damn pricey.....

Posting here after seeing a thread on after hours about vegetarianism and one of the mods suggested folk should post here.

I am off meat 3 months. I am not the strictest vegetarian, I dont eat meat ever, but will have cheese and have only found out Guinness and some other beers use fish by-products. I dont mind that, I would not call myself a pescatarian though, I always hated fish and never eat it, but take cod-liver oil for lubricating my joints.

The year prior going veggie, I only had meat once every 10 days or so. The thing that tipped me going full veggie was eating a chicken sweet and sour and feeling sick the next 3 or 4 days. I think my stomach was getting used to not eating meat as I had it so infrequently.

I'd say some of the veggie and vegan purists would look down on me. I dont mind, I am happy with who I am. I am one part in the cog in getting down global warming by not eating meat. Also another reason for me going off meat was an excellent documentary called Forks over Knives. Led me to question whether eating meat is healthy.

Anyway, apologies for the slightly rambling post. Hope you're all well :)

Welcome to the forum, any questions ask away or just have an aul chat. Only assholes who are not worth your time would look down on you, it's about doing what you are comfortable with. The oil is tricky, because the only good one I can see for veggies is fairly expensive. http://www.opti3omega.com/ 14 euro per month.

Came in to say we ate in the happy pear in greystones today, that was amazing veggie food...like a much better version of cornucopia really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,911 ✭✭✭Zombienosh

I dont mind, I am happy with who I am.

^^ And that is all that matters!

    Welcome Pride.

As for the oil mentioned above, I find a combination of Flax oils and a diet including seeds gives me enough omegas 3,6 and 9.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭--LOS--

Welcome to the forum pride fighter, I think you'll find that most of us over here are pretty easy-going and respect the fact that there are varying degrees of vegetarianism, I think it's like any kind of identity....religious, sexual w/e, it's not black and white and how you identify with stuff like that is all very personal, nobody can tell you you aren't a vegetarian because you're sitting on a leather couch or you're not using 100% cruelty free products etc. There is no rule book you know, like you said you have to just be happy with who you are.

moonbaby etsy has the same effect on me, makes me want to go all wifey and buy a sowing machine :pac:

My first time in wagamamas today, really nice and I'm stuffed hours and hours later :) Also had orange and ginger rekorderlig there which was amazin, anyone ever see that for sale anywhere coz I need it now?!

Note to non-vegetarians. If you are planning to go somewhere for my birthday, please do not choose a seafood restaurant with a selection of 2 or 3 after-thought veggie side dishes. Don't be surprised when I quietly and politely decline.

    /now that's off my chest

Is interesting a good thing MoN?

I'm grand too. Off to Vienna the week after next.
According to trip advisor, the best restaurant in the city is veggie.

    http://www.tian-vienna.com/

Never been to a proper sit down, vegetarian place. Well unless you count Juice.
    So I'm really excited.

Hoping there is going to be lots of Milka in Austria too :P

    How is everyone today?
