Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    most reports are just saying 2 dead and a 51 year old man arrested, I wouldnt jump to terror attack on that one

    Says 51 year old German guy has been stopped and arrested from the vehicle. Has not yet been spoken to. Insulin was found in the mans Range Rover.

    More than two dead and also some of the injured are in a bad way. Crazy. Hope they pull through.

    Edit: The thread title is really jumping to conclusions a bit.

    According to the BBC, it wasn't a person that carried out the attack, it was a car:

    I know that pattern , but there is also a more mundane one, and there seems to be a couple of hints that its the other one

    A reporter on Sky saying he doesn't know if it was an attack or tragic accident. Anybody who know Trier well would know that if you drive from the Porta Nigra right up to the market square it's not accidental - that's 200 meters of pedestrian street before you get to the square.

    I know someone living there who says they raced the whole way down a street - that does not sound like an insulin drop. 4 dead, 30 injured now. Terrible.

    Well according to the Mayor of Trier the driver had gone on a "rampage."

    Reports say a 51 year old man from the area has been arrested.

    That's what I was saying. I know that town very well and there's no way you would make it from the Porta Nigra up to the square unless it was on purpose.

    There‘s supposed to be a press conference at 4 PM Irish Time with the prime minister & minister for the interior of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. That‘s the German state where Trier is located. Hopefully, that‘ll yield some more solid information.

    Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

    Exactly, with on street flower beds / seating etc there's no way you'd make it up to the square by accident. He entered the square on the right hand side near McDonalds and ploughed into more people there.

    From comments and pictures the police seemed to be close and reacted by ramming and pinning the vehicle.


    Been to trier years ago, it's highly pedestrianized. I drove in and out but not much around the town but I can't see someone getting where this happened by accident.

    The BBC must think it's an islamic terrorist attack, as they updated their story a few minutes ago, but are sticking with the "Two Killed By Car" headline - if they thought the motive was anything other than islamic terrorism, they would go with a "German Man Kills Two" headline, but it may be that they aren't sure yet, so are playing it safe.

    It was hardly racist and certainly not unreasonable or unfounded to assume something like this is an islamic terrorist attack
