Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is anyone still having trouble with calls not coming through? I remember some posters mentioning this a while back.

Just this week I've had a couple of people say they tried to phone me, no missed calls and phone beside me and definitely didn't ring. Was there any solution for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 784 ✭✭✭Cork981

Yeah I had lots of issues with no service and calls going to voicemails. Sometimes people got a message that the number doesn't exist.

I ended up moving for Eir for €9.99 unlimited calls and data by bundling it with my home broadband.

Coverage and calls are rock solid now with wifi calling and 4G Calling (VoLTE).

4G speeds not as fast with Eir but for normal use.

Thanks. I've had no issues all along (that I know of), with them since September last year and this is the first time anyone mentioned it. Would hate to have to move from them, as the prices on other networks all seem to have gone up. I don't mind compromising on data speeds or even a cap on minutes/texts, but I don't think it's too much to ask to expect that calls would get through to me.

Try it on 3G only mode and test a few incoming calls.

Calls don't work on 4G (VoLTE not supported by 48) so there might be a glitch somewhere causing the signal for an incoming call to be mishandled from the network side.

I have had terrible trouble with this problem with Tesco mobile (also on 3 network) tried a new sim card, and then a new phone. Still happened. Just moved to virgin mobile, have had their sim for a couple of weeks now and it has not happened at all. My tesco sim lost service 5 times yesterday that I know of. A new low, and so frustrating.

Hi, just ported from vodafone to 48 this evening and I can make calls and receive texts but cannot receive calls. I've been with 48 for a few months now and had no issue with the 089 number and topped up with 3 days left.

Been onto customer support for over an hour with no resolution.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and was it resolved?

    Thanks in advance.

Probably not fully ported, see if it sorts itself out by tomorrow, if not then try 48 support again.

Has anyone noticed their auto-renew membership didn't work?

Got that even though auto renew had been working for a while, logged in and had to enter card details again even though it should have been already set up. In theory it's working again, won't know for another month!

Might be something to do with PSD2 and SCA which could possibly have required recurring card payments to be re-entered after a certain date.

I figured it was just to reconfirm card details or something. We'll see if it works next month.

No, only Eir and Vodafone support it AFAIK.

48 were supposed to take the 7.99 from my account Monday. got a text Monday to say something went wrong. talked to them on webchat, the problem was on their side. result, I was left unable to make calls, send texts, use my data for a few days. shambles of a company. I have given up on them after only 3 months. I have joined a different network since.

Why do 48.ie ask you to "port" your number to them before you can sign up by giving your debit card details. It's so much easier with go mo.

I'm helping a friend. I instructed them to port the old no over. When the present phone company were leaving cut off the phone do we then insert the 48 sim and sign up.online for payment. Obviously 48 sim card has been activated. 48 never gave a time when port will happen I.e. couldn't set a future date and time.
Do 48 look for card no or Iban?

You can sign up and be given a new 48 number and then port in your existing one to replace it whenever you want.

Anyone have issues with 48 dropping network coverage completely? It's happened me a few times over the past few days and I've had to reboot the phone to get it to work again.

Not 48 but Tesco. Waiting for important call, medical. No call, pick up phone, no signal. Reboot and signal back. Happened a few times. Tesco sent out new {updated SIM?} I think it has happened one more with newer SIM on last 2 weeks.

This^^^^ with Tesco - tried everything, changed every setting, soft reset, new sims, factory reset, new phone!! Nothing solved. Finally moved to Virgin media (also on the 3 network) - seems to be ok at the moment. Most frustrating few months ever!!!

Same here, no solution so ended up moving back to Eir for €9.99. Unfortunately lost the €7.99 deal but it was completely unreliable. When it worked it was perfect with 4G speeds over 150mb most of the time. But I missed so many calls with it randomly dropping. I’m in a very good coverage area in the City so it wasn’t caused my poor signal. It was used in an iPhone 7.

No issues on another phone with a 3 sim so seems to be 48/Tesco Mobile having the issues.

I signed up with 48. a few months ago and am also experiencing problems with no coverage too many times. Each time I contact them on internet I must give the long number at the back of the sim. I'm really fed up with them.
I have a 10.99 monthly membership - how can I get out of it? I don't want to change my credit card number, so must I write to them?
    How did you do it?

It's not a contract so just cancel auto renew (if enabled) and port to another network.

I also asked them on web chat to send me a confirmation email to say i had left 48. I don't want them taking money out of my account next month, so better to have an email like that.

I use a virtual Revolut card for the likes of these for that reason, once I leave I can freeze or delete it.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

This may be related to the fact that the old O2 2G network still operates separately to Three's 3G/4G/5G so when your handset switches to 2G, it's roaming. The MVNO SIMs mightn't be able to handle this switching as seemlessly as native Three SIMs, resulting in the dropouts. Might be worth disabling 2G on your handsets to see if this improves things.

I'm with AIB. I am able to use online banking to terminate any standing payments - in fact I did just that with Eir when they were going to charge me for something the shouldn't.

So in what way is Revolut any better?

48 top up is by card payment only....is it possible to block card payments in AIB online banking?

A virtual card (such as Revolut) can be blocked and therefore can't be charged after it's blocked. A normal physical card can also be cancelled but that requires contacting the issuer and getting a replacement so it's a bit of hassle compared to a virtual card that can be blocked in real time.

48 have a gift shop option that allows a single card payment without retaining card details after transaction so it's possible to avoid storing card details in the app/portal.

Er, yeah. My 48 direct debit is from the same account/card my Eir payments were from.

If it's not in the mobile network settings menu then enter the following into dialler...

    *#*#4636#*#*

....a Testing window will open immediately (without pressing the call button).

    Select "Phone Information"
Scroll down to "Set preferred network type"
Select any combination from dropdown list that excludes 2G / GSM while including 3G / WCDMA and 4G / LTE

There is no speed cap, some folks are confusing actual achievable speeds (that depend on coverage and congestion) with the network's published contractual speed...the networks are obliged to provide indicative speeds to comply with regulations but it's virtually meaningless on mobile networks.

Its in their terms and conditions, 4G speed is limited to 10mbps. They are gone to the dogs with network contention, too many people are on it. Best download speed I'm getting is 3-4mbps at peak times which is brutal. I used to get 30mbps before they brought in the new 7.99 deal, they capped it due to contention as its an MVNO network (Mobile virtual network operator)

Not sure what exactly that refers to....WAP was the technology used for mobile internet before smartphones...it's more or less obsolete.

    What is it's intended use?

I think those are just legally mandated minimum speeds that they need to achieve once in 24 hours rather than a cap that they have put in place.

I think those are just legally mandated minimum speeds that they need to achieve once in 24 hours rather than a cap that they have put in place.

It's even more pointless than that...it's an "Estimated max download speed achievable at least once in any 24 hour period"

IME switching to 3G only mode can improve speeds as most people have 4G on by default resulting in congested 4G while 3G is less busy.

Sorry it's a bit off topic. A lot actually.

    But since you asked ...

I have a Korean varient of a phone that software wise is constucted to be used with only one korean carrier. So when settings are sent via sms from a non-korean carrier the settings won't install becaue the software that installs the settings sent via sms doesn't exist on the phone.

So I took the software from a phone has this software, a US varient of the same phone, and installed in on the Korean phone. And I just want to check if it's working properly because I'm going to upload this for others to use.

The softrware is called WAP service. Whether this has someting to do with the WAP of old I don't know.

I'm on their 7.99 plan and mine aren't limited like that. I get the same speeds as I do on my work sim from 3. 48 is actually better than 3 right now. Perhaps more 3 customers connected to the same cell tower.

So does 48 use the vodafone network as well as 3?
