I kinda like the bit of RP - no passenger with any money of worth's gonna want to travel around in a Type-6 :D I might just get the Dolphin and have fun with it :)

To add experminetal effects to an engineered module - do you have to go to an engineer that specialises in that module? For my level 5 thrusters to add drag drives do I go to Professor palin? Or can another engineer do it?

You can go to any engineer who mods thrusters to add the special effect.

Decided to get back into this after dusting off the old X-52.

Still a complete novice. Any beginners tips that you want to pass on that you wish you knew back in the day?

Game has gotten much much quicker imo. I suggest tbh that you take your time and just explore the game.

But if you do want to leapfrog up the ship ladder quickly void opals mining will get you to an anaconda in about 10 hours playtime or so.

Passenger evacuation missions are pretty fun and will rank up for empire/fed rank ridiculously quickly.

engineering FSD and thrusters is really worthwhile.

Krait 2 is a cool multipurpose ship.

Don't worry too much about the ship you're in unless you're doing PVP

Throw a fuel scoop on a cheap ship and learn to explore

Kinda hoping the next announcment is ED2 and not more DLC, but it will be DLC.

I tried mining for the first time ever since picking up the game again this week. Couldn't find the fabled void opals, but made a pretty penny mining low temp diamonds. I'm going to head out again tomorrow night looking for void opals and see if I can fill my cargo hold with them :)

I like the mining mechanics. It feels like a bit of challenge, not just holding in the fire button with a mining laser equipped.

If you want I can show you a system with VO. I've extracted a few billion so far.

I have changed my computer since I bought my x52 pro.

I have downloaded drivers but the software I got is different from the software that came with it originally. I can't figure out how to turn off the "clutch" function to enable me to use that button to boost. Much more importantly I can't get the "pinky" switch to work to double the number of buttons, teh pionky switch just doesn't function.

I have had to cut down on the amount of stuff mapped to the hotas, and since I use VR that is particularly awkward when i need to use a keyboard button. I am managing, though unable to e.g. bind both chaff & shield boosters, but it is irritating. I am not buying certain modules because I know I won't be able to map a button to use them.

Has anyone else dealt with this? anyone have a link to the original software/button mapping & calibration stuff?

There's a fix for both of these issues... I'm off to the doc right now, I'll post more when I return. From memory, there is an icon in the system tray, which you can open and turn off 'something' to fix one of them.

I think that is turning off "clutch mode" to fix teh boost button on the throttle (button "i" iirc). But not in my system tray i think I need software that i don't have. Unfortunately I don't have the cd that came with the x52 anymore.

    To fix Clutch

Control Panel -> Game Controllers -> X52 Pro (highlighted) -> Properties (button) -> MFD (tab) -> uncheck Enable Clutch Mode

I also had that issue when starting out. X52 is a strange beast, software wise.

I think that's ok..they are aimed at squadrons and with mining now etc credits are easy. Your squadron pooling resources to get one should be fun.

Only picked this back up again this week after a good few months off. Need to dust off the cutter and fit her out for mining. Havent done the new mining yet but I've seen the massive amounts of credit with LTD now

Yeah i could get behind that for sure,i dont think it will be Elite 2 though. Ive a feeling its a large update that may leave the current gen of consoles behind.

Too much of a coincidence to me that the release date is right when the next gen of consoles will be launched.

Either way, hope its worth the wait!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭Fian

I hope it is ok to post about no man's sky here - since there are obvious cross-overs with elite.

Anyway I bought it yesterday on Steam, it is currently 50% off for the next few days. It is VR compatible now but i mainly played in 2D yesterday to try to figure out what i was doing before moving to VR. mouse and keyboard controls probably easier to use than the VR ones.

Very different game tbh, and Elite is definitely better, but having said that it was 1:30 am before I noticed the time and turned it off to go to bed, which is a pretty good endorsement I guess.

Lots of running around gathering resources on planets, not much space flight, though.

    It gets boring very quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,572 ✭✭✭EoinHef

It hasnt got the legs of elite but for 60/70hrs i enjoyed NMS.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

NMS is a brilliant game, less grindy than ED but still very good.

Flying is awful but there is a mod for that :)

Fleet carriers delayed till Q2 next year.

Frontier are saying that they are going to re focus development to squash long term bugs and work on stability. The updates they say will be large and every 3/4 months. Pre update betas are making a comeback.

Hard to know how this will pan out but i must say givin the track record im not sure they will ever get on top of the bugs. The gap in content will be quite large by the time fleet carriers come out also, never mind the end of next year update. They must be confident that players will come back with the update end of next year.

I was personally lookin forward to earning a fleet carrier when they came, having that delayed means ive no reason to play till middle of next year which is a bit disappointing. Recently a friend got access to a PC capable of running the game and ive givin him my old HOTAS,reset my commamder on PC in preperation but guess we will delay that playthrough till next year now.

I really hope they nail all this but im just not sure. They cant seem to stick to a plan the last while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

Some of the bugs tho are several years old, R6Siege did this and the game did benefit but you had a gaunranteed content drop afterwards.

ED seems to have something coming and it better be more than Fleet Carriers.

Seems to be a reaction to an open letter they received from the community. If they get it right it can only be good for the game in the long run but as it stands I don't see myself coming back for a long time yet.

Fleet carriers finally have their release date in June. Content reveal live stream on April 2nd.

Not sure it's enough to get me back in just yet, will likely wait until the next paid expansion at this rate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

Guessing im not getting ED2 anytime soon :(

Sad that I can afford a Fleet Carrier on my own.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,572 ✭✭✭EoinHef

I've about the price of a carrier in assets but not cash, cant see myself going back for this update unless it's more than just carriers. Like what can we do with them?

There would have to be some compelling gameplay around them.

Will probably be around the paid expansion time I jump back in.
