Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just ordered the tv box and signed up to the 6 months movie package. How do I set it up when I get it so I can view it from my house in Dublin, do I have to change the setting to UK?

Now TV will work straight away, Iplayer etc. won't.

Can someone point me in the direction of a site that gives info about these tv boxes ? I'm interesting in getting one but know nothing about XBMC, Roku, Boxee, etc and want to understand which is the best one for what I want.

Also am I right to say that this box in the OP only requires an initial £9 + £15 sub for six months and then you have all movies free for half a year ? And what is Sky's movie collection actually like ? I signed up a trial for Netflix last year, searched for 'Star Wars', nothing, Apocolypse Now, nothing and so on so I didn't bother with the full sub. Is NowTV similar, i.e. lots of movies but not what you actually want ?

As with anything it takes time for these streaming services to pick up, there are plenty of similar box's like minix neo series and other Chinese brands. They all vary in price but almost all alow xbmc and other apps to stream things for free, not only that but they allow you to download and run every app that's in the play store on then.

This is just a good deal and you get free services from it, paying is an option for films.

Has anyone received a box yet. Did you make any mods to it and did the box work.

Yes, haven't done any mods. The only thing you can do with it right now is install Plex, which I don't use.

Mine is in Newtownabbey according to the tracking so will probably get it today or tomorrow.

Mine too. Does parcelmotel forward on to Dublin that quickly? I haven't used them previously.

So is mine, last week the truck must have been full of Tassimo machines and tonight it's full of NowTV.

Mine is with Parcel Motel ATM too. Going by past deliveries it usually comes a few hours after they get it. Usually late at night for me.

I am waiting for mine for the past two days, Royal Mail Track and Trace says "We have been notified that your item is being shipped by the retailer; the next scan will appear when we receive this item." since 31st of July.
Does any one know how long it will take?
    Thanks.

It will probably change today or tomorrow, I ordered mine last Friday at around 11 am and is only ready for collection today.

So I got the box, nice little thing comes with an HDMI cable.

Setup was easy, it took a while to download some updates but NowTV worked fine with the expected 720p quality. The stream is starting quickly but I noticed some buffering once in a while.

Now for some reason I can't seam to find a way to change the DNS settings so that I can get iPlayer to work, has anybody found a way to do that on the box itself?

Nope there has been no way found unfortunately.

If you can, change the DNS settings on your router and all devices in your home will be able to access the other services (BBC iplayer, US Netflix etc) without having to change anything on the device. I recently got a cheap Netgear router ex Argos to this on my UPC broadband.

Yeah, for some reason I must be one of the only people in Ireland that does not have problems with the WiFi on the Cisco because mine is working quite well even for streaming HD Netflix so I really don't want to go down the road of setting up another router.

Well than the box is only for NowTV and Vevo but for 10£ plus 2.5£ for loads of movies still a bargain.

Collected mine earlier. Everything perfect in the box and setup was simple and quick. Downloaded a software update in 30 seconds and restart took another minute or so. Everything working perfect on the box itself.

Some handy channels in the Roku store too. I subscribed to the £15 deal and the movie selection is good. Everything running smoothly even downstairs where the wifi signal is bad.

Glad I picked one up now. Really well made hardware and the software is surprisingly great.

Gonna install plex later and add it on.

Does plex stream only from a plex server?

  • Registered Users Posts: 376 ✭✭kaerobe

    Ordered and on the way.

Hoping/praying someone figures out how to load Netflix//Hulu+. Either way I am happy to get my hands on this and see what it can do.

Does it have AV/analogue support? Will put in my parents room for their tractor of a TV

Will give me something tinker with at least (love tinkering with electronics) Already have plex server on mac mini with Netflix Hulu , navi-x and ice films installed as video channels amongst others. So if you can install/sideload plex app on this for 10bucks should you not be able to access all your movies music and video channels from the server I.e. really the only app you need no? Can you sideload access the plex app without subscription though? Am looking into the VPN issue anyone with UPC got a good dns web service to recommend?

I have plex set up on mine and it works pretty well with the server on my laptop and the media files on a NAS.

Regarding the DNS issue. I cant see a way to specify DNS on the device itself, but I did change the DNS on my UPS cisco router and now I can access iplayer. I use overplay.net smart DNS.

It's on the same screen as the DHCP setup. The DNS boxes are blank, so I just entered the overplay DNS servers, rebooted and it was working fine then.

Lucky you because on my 3925 I can't change it.

Well after digging into it (thanks bing) I found that I actually can change it in "LAN Setup" under LAN 1 Static DNS 1 without a problem and now it works fine.

    Thanks Ro-76 for that.

Never played with one of these boxes before. I see you can get sky movies but can you get sky sports? Think there was a mention of it in an earlier post.

Also for an utter noob to this could someone go through an installation for dummies explanation to get the most out of it if I ordered it today. Is this something similar to the dream box a few years ago?

You can get Sky Sports but it's £10 a day.

Get 6 month of Sky now for £15 here. The offer ends tomorrow so make sure you buy it before your box comes!

Watch this video for the process to install Plex, an app that lets you stream local files on your computer to the box.

There are other apps you can install straight from the box (Vimeo, TED talks etc).

Also it might be possible to install Netflix and Sky Go but I haven't tried it yet.

Edit: I got the Youtube channel working on Plex so I'd assume all of the Plex channels (Netflix etc.) work, but I don't have a Netflix subscription to check.

    got mine today, very impressed.
Plex working, spotify working, just trying the netflix plugin and sky go now.
The sky movies are quite good on it.
    Absolute bargain for the money.
