Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Mel Blanc
    Judy Garland
    Douglas Fairbanks Jnr
    Peter Finch
    Mickey Rooney

    Have what in common?
Is there a military link? Fairbanks was a proper soldier and earned a chestful of bling. Garland and Rooney 'entertained' the troops.
Though I suppose the same could be said of most people/actors of that era.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Srameen and Corkgirl you owe us a question each, come on, look lively. Srameen you've been told about answering questions without asking the next one...
    :D

Quiz question - there was a bit of a continuity glitch during the Queen's speech, did anyone notice what it was (it wasn't anything she said)?

Maybe it was Charles, there was someone beside here, wasn't paying much heed to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,782 ✭✭✭✭looksee

No, it was more a continuity thing.

A glass of water was suddenly on the other side/empty?

Did a corgi stroll in followed by her younger brother, and the dog-sitter had to crawl in to retrieve them? :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,782 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Ah just checked it up, it did get a mention in a couple of newspapers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,782 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Glasses (as in spectacles)? Has to be glasses (as in spectacles)! Or a dress change? Or me clutching at straws??? Yep. That's probably it.

Ok, I was sure someone would get it.

There was a bit of video showing the state crown being carried to Parliament with all the accoutrements, but when she was giving her speech she was wearing a different, smaller crown (rather more appealing I thought). Apparently the state crown, which is a heavy and not very attractive lump of a thing, was on a table beside her, but you could not see it in the pic I saw, so it looked as though she had lost it on the way.

Anyway it just struck me as minorly interesting.

Hopefully one of the wanderers will come in and set a question, or anyone else who would like to keep things going!

I was always a big fan of Rincewind and the Diskworld books. :)

    Q. A woman by the name of Sarah Thomas recently completed a record setting feat of endurance. A large number of people have completed this trial once, many have done a double, a rare few have completed a triple but she is the only person to have completed a quadruple.
    What did she do?

Well from the depths of my total ignorance it had to have been a desert run or a sea journey. I picked the wrong one, but still don't know anything about the other. :D Or maybe into space now I think of it.

Edit: Looks it up. Oh right, her! And my guesses are still pretty wide of the mark!

That was some feat. I can barely swim a couple of lengths of a pool.

I had a notion that London had one of the first parks, and it seems like a fair bet for early tram services too. Hardly a town though.

The first railway line, IIRC (and I probably don't), joined Stockton and Darlington. One of them?
