Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ineos' Tour team sort of picks itself now even before the Dauphine. I think Froome has to improve upon his Tour du L'Ain performance to seal his place as a super-domestique for Bernal. Geoghegan-hart fell away a bit at that race and was a DNF up Grand Colombier. Amador showed his ability and could jump over both of them into the team.

    Bernal
    Thomas
Froome (Geoghegan-Hart or Amador if Froome doesn't go)
    Rowe
    Van Baarle
    Kwiatkowski
    Castroviejo
    Sivakov

Rowe hasn't done that much this year but still seems a certainty given his road captain status.

Didn't get to read all of the piece on cycling tips I think it was or weekly but Froome posted his Strava numbers from the weekend which isn't something he usually does this close to the tour so that's him making his case for sure. Think he was averaging a steady 390w over the earlier climbs before burring himself on the last one for Bernal. Thomas, hard to know he pulled in the valley on Sunday but he didn't look good on the previous days.

I think Thomas is nailed on, as he's shown he can accept a support role. Froome not so much, both with 2012 and Thomas' win.

Watched the final stage of Tour de L'Ain. However it pans out, some statement from the Jumbo! Even Rog dropping back to eyeball Bernal!

Could be one of the best Tours for years alright. Love what TJV are doing this year.

The Italian one-day race Gran Piemonte is on at the moment - just over 40 km to go.
Mathieu van der Poel, Nibali, Aru, Ivan Sosa & George Bennett are in it.

And yet another win for Team Jumbo Visma! George Bennett wins Gran Piedmonte. Diego Ulissi was second with MvdP third.

Yeah, effectively won it on the wet downhill and with rim brakes! Crazy to think, he'll supposedly be the fourth best climber on that team come the Tour.

    Jesus Evenpoel

    Jesus Evenpoel

Aye that was awful, looked like a hell of a fall when he went over the edge of the bridge, really hope Remco Evenepoel is ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,451 ✭✭✭TheBlaaMan

That looked awful - I hope he is OK but that could have been steep. After a number of serious accidents in previous years, the descent down into Como is clearly really dangerous at race speeds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,988 ✭✭✭griffin100

Here’s hoping he went over just before the ground fell away and he landed on a slope rather than falling far.

The bit they showed on Eurosport made it look like it was a hell of a drop, hope that was just an optical illusion.

The 2 photographers on the bridge should be told to do one ffs.

Aye that came from DQS themselves, so it seems he hasn't done himself any major harm thankfully.

Good on Eurosport, they went to their own scenic footage while the Italian Broadcaster was showing the aftermath of the crash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

That was some drop for Evenepoel. If he's got away with no serious injuries then he is quite fortunate, but we need to hear from the medics for official confirmation.

Bennett proving his worth as a rider; I wonder how long before Ineos come knocking with an offer?

I'd love Bennett to take this.

That's great attacking from Bennett and Fuglsang

It came to a solid resolution pretty quickly, Fuglsang looks nailed on to win now.

Wow car on course ffs, took our Schachmann

He was up and away but how the hell does that even happen in a world tour race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭Eamonnator

The Left Hook is alive and well and living in Lombardy, I see.

I nearly got sick when I saw Evenepoel's crash. I did that descent off Surmano around this time last year. Thankfully he is conscious in hospital.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,350 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Fractured pelvis and lung contusion for Remco. Could have been a lot worse. https://mobile.twitter.com/deceuninck_qst/status/1294695334321500161

Nibali is a wiley old dog. He had a chat with Mollema and decided to attack on the descent. Obviously he wouldn't have intended on anyone crashing but he definitely wanted to make Remco (or anyone else for that matter) as uncomfortable as possible.

Hopefully he comes back soon and as good as ever, he's genuinely something special.

Is it curtains for CCC at this stage? Even if they find a sponsor they'll have no riders of note left and likely not in a position to sign any until they find a sponsor. Speculation that Masnada will be in a Quickstep jersey come the Giro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,457 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Sam Bennett finished second behind Caleb Ewan in the first stage of Tour de Wallonie today. It looked like Sam had the win but Ewan just pipped him on the line.

Based on ProCyclingStats, tomorrow is flat and then the final two stages are lumpy

    Zakarin

I'd forgotten about him, he rode in Poland recently and I don;t think I heard his name once.

No Giro for Evenepoel as he is admitting that his season is over

Seeing him there and some of the ghoulish pics of him lying beside the bridge injured really rams home that for all his incredible talent, he's just a little kid. Hopefully he does come back as good as ever.

Did anyone see Stage 3 of the Tour de Wallonie today? Sam Bennett finished way down (nearly last) when the likes of Demare, Ewan & Bouhanni all contested the sprint

Yeah he went pop on the hill when a few decided to contest the intermediate sprint for bonus seconds. No idea what the gradient was as I wasn't paying much attention at the time and looked over to see him in the granny gear and waving the camera away.

His twitter feed is worth a look, amazing what TV shows and doesn't show. There were some seriously dodgy bollards on the circuit at one point.

Obviously they wren't riding that :D

    Highlights of the stage :

GCN and Eurosport not showing Giro dell'Emilia later today. It's normally one they cover and usually a good race for the more GC type riders.

According to cycling news it's not being broadcast internationally so there should be a stream from the usual places from Italian TV hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,457 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

The Spanish National RR is live on TV now. Only about 6 km remaining.

The Italian & French National RR are also live on TV today

I think he was getting beat there even if he hadn't lost the chain with 300m to go but cruel to see him not get a medal and walk the bike over the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,457 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) has won the Spanish National championship.

It looked like Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) was going to win it after he attacked on the final climb with 3 km to go and built up a 15 second lead. But Sanchez hunted him down and had the stronger legs to take the win.

Cycling is cruel though. Herrada was going to take second place but he had a mechanical with less than 100 metres to go and he had to walk over the finish line. I think he finished outside the top 10 :(

Herrada was completely out of gas when Sanchez caught him so I don't think the mechanical stopped him from competing for the win. I could be wrong though.

French RR at 1.30pm and then Italian RR at 1.50pm :)

I don't see a startlist for the French race, but some years it's basically a train of 10 or more FDJ riders driving the bunch all day. I think I'll go with the Italian race today if thats the case.

Yeah, Demare has 16 FDJ team mates working for him today. Mad looking on screen to see so many from the same team on the front. Every French pro is entilted to ride their national champs, but I thought organisers might consider a lottery for 8 places for a team alongside a nominted team leader, if only to allow more riders from smaller French Conti teams.

I guess every rider who wants to ride is in the race and the peloton size is considered safe.

Carlton is commentating on the French race so that's made the decision for me on what race to watch.

    (the Italian race obviously!)

They just pointed out Davide Rebellin there in Italy, 49 years old now and still up there.

Cracking finish to the French race. I thought Allaphilippe was going to do it. There must have been massive pressure on Demare to win from his 16 or so domestiques :pac: It seems crazy that he hasn't been picked for TdF given his fantastic form.
