Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd wonder how it's listed for insurance purposes :P The true test to see where it views itself, is to see where they send their planning applications to :pac:

Which seems to be Kildare County Council...

The most recent planning stuff has been for the stopway, etc which is in Kildare. Planning for the bits in Dublin would always have had to be Dubin County Council / SDCC.

Its use as an operational airport significantly predates planning permission.

Popped round Weston Aerodrome for a look today .Basic cafe service in place for the staff.BUT major renovations of restaurant in progress and a sign saying new restaurant in place in next while...Bucaneer RAF bomber jet and some interesting vintage US planes there also(Lockeed Electra , Grumman Widgeon and a Cessna on floats ??) Plenty of aerial activity in evidence also ...Place far from dead!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭N7777G

The Buccaneer has been moved across from the far side of the airfield and is parked alongside the hangar - hopefully it won't be chopped up like the Catalina.

Strikemaster from the airshow? (later version of the jet provost)

Does anyone know what time the Strikemaster departs Weston today?

    Thanks

That would make sense , it had what looked like hard points on the wings.

Glad my aircraft spotting is still reasonably good.

Was sitting in the office today in the city centre and heard a very odd sounding jet going over and knew it was something different. I thought he was going back to Wales yesterday after the show from what the commentators said, clearly not exactly correct in their comments:)

Guys can anyone confirm or deny the rumours I've heard that Weston is getting a lighting system put in to allow night flights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭Bsal

There's no way the residents around the airport would allow that, but I hope its true.

I heard recently enough that they may get a PAPI system but like said above I cant see the NIMBYs letting anything more happen happen

    'Not in my back yard'

Ye know those people who will oppose anything being built near their house..

NIMBYs vs. airports, new runways, shopping centres, skyscrapers, business parks etc.

What exactly could they do to stop it, if the planning goes ahead not alot is what I'm thinking.

p.s The airfield was there long before any of those house's were. In fact I believe the airport was advertised on the billboards for alot of the estates around there (particularly weston park) and they were sold at a discount because of their proximity to an airfield. No right to complain after the fact in my opinion and I wouldn't feel abit sorry for any of them.

There will be an insane amount of pissing and moaning during any planning application, plus at least one local TD is a fantastic bandwagon jumper when required for this topic.

Well think about it this way..who will the local politicians side with? The residents or the airfield?

There's bitter hatred towards Weston in that area even though Weston was there way before they were.

Times have changed, if there are jobs to be created and a boost to the local economy I doubt the politicians are going to be hugely inclined to side with a couple of angry residents.

And as for that one particular resident who was responsible for flying those kites, he/she should have been locked up for that stunt.

True and also he was brought to court from a pilot in a Cessna (not giving the reg away) hit them on landing.

Holy sh*t!! Some asshole actually flew a kite on finals? Were any charges brought against him? My flight bag would be going out the window if he tried that stunt with me! Risking lives because he decided to buy a house beside an airfield! Idiot!

I heard from a fairly reliable source that they are planning a basic light system and I really hope it's true. The new owner is keen to get more biz jet traffic but as most biz jets fly in for company meetings etc. they need to be able to get the biz jets out when meetings are finished which is impossible at any time after 1630 in the winter months without lighting... Meaning F all biz jet traffic outside the summer months.

One of the biggest objecters to Weston was a female TD representing the Celbridge area .
