Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I will take your advice, but just so I'm clear - my best line of enquiry is to go to someone who can get the house on the APQ, they hook it up physically, and then I call in a provider to run the broadband service through that (which I'm assuming exists out there because of the neighbours having it)? Or should I look at getting someone from Eir (dunno who) to actually go out there first to see what the situation is before I assume it's not already on the grid?

    Btw I did do a quick diagram of the house's situation but Boards won't let me link it as a new user so idk.

    Your best bet may be to approach a smaller ISP to see if they have a contact in open eir that may be able to get you on the APQ. Once you're on the APQ theoretically you could order from anyone but that may be unfair on the ISP that would have done the work on your behalf. Some to approach may be Airwire, Digiweb or Net1.

    There is little point in asking eir. They will just look at your Eircode and say no. They are not going to send someone out to look.

    Hi. Built a new house in a small estate (7 houses) in North Cork. The estate was built 10/12 years and there was no cables installed back then for broadband. The ducts and ropes are there. I set up an account with Eir and they have logged a request for the cables to be installed by KN.

    I rang Eir for an update and they said it would take months for KN to do what they have to do.

    Can I contact KN for an update, will they give me an update?

    While I wait, what options do I have for broadband especially pay as you go?

    Im also waiting for an installation from a provider and use Three in the meantime

    Three Mobile - 3/4G 30 day rolling contract €30 monthly limit 750GB

    Things to know:

    Check you can get coverage

    Its completely temperamental, on off, on off, low speed, ok speed, fast then slow, but you will have something.

    average about 0.2 to 2Mbps in the evening. Im stuck with this for now but the 30 days opt out makes it easier to bail out later.

    Looking for advice regarding getting broadband for a new build.
    Handover is expected in late Jan 2020. Neighbors are using Eir and say it's good for streaming etc. I've also seen signs in the area for Imagine.

    My scenario is a little complex though. I won't be living in the house for at least a year as I am based abroad. That said, I might stay there for a couple of weeks a few times per year - and wireless hotspot won't cut it at such times.

    Hence I'm looking for a pay-as-you-go broadband option if such a thing exists. Failing that, I would be willing to pay for a minimal broadband package; at the very least I could monitor the CCTV from my phone or iPad in the country I live in when I'm not in the house.

    Check Three coverage map, if they have you covered either get PAYG sim card and buy a router or get Three for €30 a month

    Thanks, it shows that 4G is available indoors. Note that the house is so well insulated it's very hard to get a good mobile signal of any kind indoors.

    Hence I will need a landline broadband package.

    I'm sure this has been asked before, but would be impossible to find through all the posts here!

    Assuming I'm just looking for broadband only (no TV/phone/mobile packages), does it really matter which provider I go for? It is my understanding that Eir/Vodafone/Sky etc. all share the same infrastructure so would expect the speeds to all be the same. Am I correct in saying this?

    I was just going to go for the cheapest provider given that all I need is fast broadband.

    We have Vodafone mobile broadband in the house - paying €60 a month for 150GB data. Speed is ok, kids use Netflix a fair bit and rarely buffers. But it's not cheap, and a few times we've been cut off before the billing date when the data limit was reached. A right royal pain in the a$$.

    Considering switching to Three, but have read horrific reviews about speed throttling and customer service. So was considering a 30-day contract (no router) rather than take the router and 18/24 month contract.

    Can I use the Vodafone router we already have and just put a 3 SIM in it? Long out of contract with Vodafone so no problem switching, just wondering if their equipment will prevent a 3 SIM being used? At least if we experience bad speeds we can go back to Vodafone...

    Probably not, normally the router will be locked to Vodafone

    For anyone who has Siro installed by digiweb. The esb meter box is at the side wall of our house. Kitchen is on inside of the wall. Am I right in saying they’ll fit a grey box on external wall next to the meter box?
    And is it possible then to run cable along external wall (5m max) and drill into sitting room wall to fit internal connection ?

    Not Digiweb but I believe the installs of the fibre itself are all Siro sub-contractors anyway not the ISP.

    On mine the fibre cable comes out the side of the meter box, travels about 2-3m along the wall and then the grey box is where they brought it through into the house.

    I am currently with Virgin Media, have been for a number of years on 500Mb Broadband, Recently got a call from Digiweb to tell me our apartment block now has Siro gigabyte broadband, who is the best provider for gigabyte? The options I currently see are Digiweb and Vodafone for my area

    As you have the 500mb package from Virgin and are getting the speed then I would recommend you stay there for now. They will probably roll out 1GB during 2020. The reason I say this is SIRO speeds have seriously reduced since early December. I was getting between 890 - 950mb but am now getting between 400-550mb. MY ISP which just happens to be Digiweb and their 2nd level support have raised a case with SIRO to get the higher speeds restored.

    There is a SIRO forum thread on boards SIRO - ESB/Vodafone Fibre To The Home, which will give you an insight on what is happening and answer some questions for you. So have a read first.

    If however you wish to change to SIRO FTTH then I recommend Digiweb over Vodafone. They have a very good customer service and technical support and use a good router with the Fritzbox. As a added bonus if you know someone already with Digiweb then they can recommend you and you both get €30.00 off your bill.

    I appreciate the detailed answer, my biggest worry with Digiweb is their fair use policy, 1TB, while it sounds like a lot, is not for me, I regularly go to about 1.5-2TB per month with Virgin, between downloads :rolleyes: Steam games and all the other devices I use including my 4K Netflix. I never ever want to worry about my usage as I am not getting 1GB to have to watch what I do if you get me?

    Is their Fair Use Policy strict?

    From looking at the posting in the first post, as well as going through Vodafones questionnaire, it would seem my mate in Enfeild will be able to get Vodafone broadband without having to pay line rental?

    He didn't use the landline in his last house, but doesn't have any fixed broadband nor a landline now, and wants to not have to pay for line rental which he will not use. He has Sky for the channels (has kids, so will probably be keeping Sky for their viewing), so will only be looking for broadband.

    Could someone confirm that Vodafone sells broadband without line rental being a charge?

    It's all down to the way they word it. I don't think any provider list a line rental fee anymore. Of course if they are using the Open Eir network they will have to pay Eir for access. They will have to cover this in the cost they charge the customer but they do not list it.

    Some will have a broadband only package and some will have a broadband and calls(and sometimes tv) packages.
    Vodafone do have a broadband only option but so do other providers.

    When you order broadband from a provider, they will generally sort a line for you these days. You don't have to have a line in the first place.

    So the "rental" is included in the broadband pricing.

    Hi everybody, I’m looking for advice on broadband providers. My town recently got fiber but my estate wasn’t connected. I’ve been told by Eir that I can get up to 70Mb and Vodafone up to 50Mb. I’m about 300m from the exchange and less than 100m from the main road where the cable runs.

    I currently have Eir landline and broadband from Ripplecom(8Mb) so want to combine the two but not sure who to go with. After introductory offers I’ve been quoted, Eir €70pm, Vodafone €55pm and Sky €62.50pm for bb and all calls. Just wondering which of these have the most reliable service and bb speeds? I didn’t include Imagine because of some negative comments I’ve read?

    have just signed up to vodafone simply broadband,just broadband no phone but i have found that sometimes it is cheaper to go with phone and broadband even if you never use the phone.
    try bonkers.ie and you can compare prices

    Bonkers will only give you mainstream large providers (as they pay them) so a bit more research may give you better deals.

    Don't want to make a separate thread, does anyone know if Google WiFi is compatible with Virgin internet? Think I have the Hub 3 box. The wifi signal to parts of my house is absolutely terrible to the point of not working at all.

    The Virgin hub is woeful for WiFi full stop, I use mine in Modem mode and pair it with my Asus Router, I live in a 1 bed apartment and the WiFi barely worked in the bedroom, new router, now have full 500mb over WiFi anywhere in my apartment, and even 2 stories down

    I don't see why the Google WiFi wouldnt work

    I'm moving to Cabinteely, Dublin soon. Can anyone recommend a good 100mb broadband package? I have a decent WiFi router of my own...

    Bundled TV isn't necessary, & only required if it's dirt cheap.

    Cabinteely has lots of options. It depends on the premise. SIRO is available in a lot of D18. Virgin is present in a lot of places.

    I've Vodafone up to 70MB at the moment. Thinking of moving to eir for the free eirsports & Amazon Prime deal. I know all the negatives regarding customer service etc. One question does anybody know how there new router compares Versus the standard Vodafone fibre router. Wifi speed is terrible over the weekend sometimes. I know its the same broadband resold but if the modem was a bit better that would be a bonus.

    Anyone any suggestions for broadband in west limerick

    Currently have eir getting 1.5mb speeds ( up from 0.36 after a fault getting fixed )

    I have spoken to the loyalty team who have been most helpful and very friendly but after our chat , top speed we can hope for in our area is 2.5 to 3mb

    Imagine are doing a drive in our area at the moment I’m seriously considering going with them but I have read very negative reviews online and am concerned of opting into a 24 month contract

    Siro or fibre not available , bbnet is available but we want to keep landline for the rare time we use it they don’t offer this service over fixed wireless

    Any thoughts?

    You can always go BBnet, then get the landline number from somewhere like Goldfish or the likes.

    If you talk to them, they may even provide you or sell you a Fritz!Box router with phone capabilities and you just set it up to use your own VoIP provider then.

    An Eir lad caught me on the hop yesterday, seems to be half the price of Sky €100/50 for tv & broadband for roughly the same package,though I have heard Eir are a nightmare to deal with or anything goes wrong which Sky almost never does, stay or Go? Kells area

    Thanks, yeah am happy with the channels, they have everything I need with option for extra kids channels.
    a bit worried that the internet might be crap, I work from home a lot, and the costumer service will take forever to fix it

    Thanks Marlow I have decided to go with imagine in the end for ease of switching fingers crossed I’m in one of the less populated mast areas !

    Sorry, made a balls of my initial post.


    Currently with Virgin (250mb) but thinking of switch to Sky as it'd be far more bang for my buck TV/BB wise.

    I currently fluctuate between 230-240mps download which is grand for me.

    Sky's broadband offers vary from 1000mb down to 10mb. I've also heard that 75mb is Sky's limit due to their lines...

    If I went with their 500mb deal, would I still get around the same download speed or will it plummet?

    Currently with Virgin (250mb) but thinking of switch to Sky as it'd be far more bang for my buck TV/BB wise.

    I currently fluctuate between 230-240mps download which is grand for me.

    Sky's broadband offers vary from 1000mb down to 10mb. I've also heard that 75mb is Sky's limit due to their lines...

    If I went with their 500mb deal, would I still get around the same download speed or will it plummet?

    Sky use the Eir lines, so will offer the same as Eir (and Vodafone iirc).

    To know what you would get from Sky, you need to check your Eir line. Bang your phone number/eircode into the Sky or Eir pages and see what they say your line can support.

    Anyone know of Eir's Mobile Broadband bill pay plans?

    There are 3 listed on the website:
    €15 for 15GB a month
    €20 for 20GB a month
    €30 for 50GB a month (I'm currently on this deal)

    I've heard there is another for €52 for 250GB a month - but I can't find anything on their website.

    Vodafone have a deal €40 for 300GB but Eir's coverage is more reliable at my house.

    Hi,

    I'm looking to setup some Google Home or Amazon Echo speakers in a house that currently has no internet connection, and will only used to give internet access to the speakers.

    I'm not expecting the speaker usage to be taxing on the internet connection, basic information questions, maybe at some point turning devices or switches on/off, also considering using Echo Connect for calls (in which case will be using Echo speakers).

    The house is in Lucan, Co. Dublin and the landline is with eir.

    I'm looking for the cheapest package that will be provide a reliable service for the above requirements.

    Any suggestions?

    I found Sky broadband to be excellent for my needs but I'm not mad about paying €55 a month for it.

    Alternatives are:

    1. Vodafone. €25 a month.
    2. Digiweb. €24.95 a month.

    Is either any better than the other?

    I called Sky to get the price down but they forwarded me straight to cancellation. Is the practice of Sky always giving introductory rates to keep customers a thing of the past?
