Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Will the current seating on DEO be changed for EI service since the seats weren't the normal shade?

Considering the 2? 4? 319s and 2 320s still with Iberia seats, I'd suspect not.

Who cares about the seats, do we get to keep the Virgin mood lighting?

I believe they changed the 2 A320 (-EDS, -EDP) after about a year......no chnages so far on the A319 however.

having been on EDP back from FAO last summer (late late flight hence the 319), i wouldn't want to repeat it. i found the seat very uncomfortable.

Was on one of the 320s in March, same seats just spaced properly

All short-haul aircraft will undergo a cabin refit this coming winter, allowing for installation of WiFi and enhanced Business product offering on popular routes LHR/LGW/AMS/CDG/ZRH/GVA. Unfortunately the mood lighting was removed from DEO when the standard cabin was re-installed, but who knows maybe moodlighting will make an appearance during the winter re-fits.

    I'm sorry....but WTF?
I'm a fan of that happening but adding some sort of J Class product is a huge step. I would have thought an announcement would be made on that point
(not complaining as I feel EI would need to add Y+ to keep distance from and attraction against the 'new' FR)

There's defiantly no business class cabin return, rather a similar approach to BA's blocking of a seat if plans progress. Talk of sockets for the first few rows etc, nothing concrete but the re-fit this winter allows the opportunity to do it.

Announcement on the extension of the new DUB-IAD route from late Oct to January due shortly. Very positive forward bookings have led to the fairly short-notice decision.

I'v flown on 2 of the A319's (EPS & EPT) the seats on them seem to be very cramped compared to the A320's, Any one know what the seat pitch is on these? SeatGuru mentions its a split cabin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭highlydebased

First few rows still have business pitch. I heard 2 were reconfigured to change this. I was recently on both EPS and EPU and they both still had the better pitch up front. I always get seat 3A as a result ;-)

Question about the Omni 767-200 to be leased.

Do EI already have it? I've seen reports that it was very recently sent in for painting into EI colours (Or partly in them).

Also, will it appear on FR24, I have my bets on it won't, but I hope it will.

Doubt they already have it. It will appear soon enough. I think the lease is June-July-August.

Might be an option to try a dummy booking on EI.com to look for the planned start dates.

Done it already it starts June 8th. Seat plans available. Lease ends then in late august, something like the 28th.

Do you know what the story is after that? When will EI get the 767 and refit the business class?

Late May/Early June, no refit due to lease being only 3 months.

Omni Plane, Omni crew, Aer Lingus flight number and possibly titles.

This amuses me :) I'm sure I've done it before though.

I can also confirm it operates from the 8th of June. The B757-200 then goes to Dublin to operate the DUB-JFK for the duration of the 767 lease.

Indeed. I know that He'll be grand, he'll have a paper and a few beers. Wouldnt boter him too much. But for many others this would seem like punishment.

personally I'm a reader and a sleeper on planes.

chaps, the 4th 757 is due for 2016, will we be seeing it in Dublin in the off season, i.e late 15 or early 16?

Here's a picture of the Omni that subbed for Aer Lingus the last couple of weeks , for some reason I cant't embed it, my browser keeps crashing everytime I try, maybe Tenger can edit it there and try embed it (I just took a guess and pasted the IMG link into your post)

there a 5th to come as well! in 2019. unless of course EI move on the A321NeoLR in the mean time and the order changes. I assume they want the 757's to open up thinner routes and give EI more scope in terms of wides bodys. They hope to have 9 A350's eventually.4

your right it wont affect me in anyway? i was just saying having 20 plus year old planes cost lot to run . i see there getting 767 20 plus years old . just wondering...

Well the B757's are on a 4-5 year damp lease operation. So EI pay a flat rate and Air Contractors are dealing with the running costs of the B757's.
And there really is no alternative to the B757's......B767/A330 is larger and thus harder to fill, A320/B737 dont have the range to compete with it...........
.....at least until Airbus get the A321LR into the air.

The Omni B767 is a 12 week lease. So EI aren't 'running it' either.

I do get your point about older aircraft. The travelling public do look at aircraft age, not realising that this is less important with aviation than with ground transport. But if the alternative is leasing higher priced newer aircraft which mean higher tickets then the short term older aircraft are a good choice.

Where's the capacity coming from for this short haul expansion? Or is or already left over capacity from the summer?

Little Red ops I suppose? They have another due back, and the Agadir (summer only before?) and Liverpool routes are opening this winter, that should cover it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 104 ✭✭Snow Leopard

There's a general obsession nowadays with having the newest of everything.

Aircraft manufactured in 97-98 are not old aircraft. Certainly middle-aged, but not old. The vast majority of BA's long-haul frames for example were manufactured between 1990 and 2000, and the majority of these will continue operating well into the 2020s.

A rigorous maintenance programme combined with a cabin refurb every 8-10 years keep aircraft in excellent shape. Anyone who has flown the EI B757s will testify to this. And as mentioned above, there is simply no replacement for the B757 currently available. Without these aircraft the SNN operation would be long gone and it's highly unlikely that YYZ would ever operate over the winter. The A321neoLR will be a fantastic replacement though.
