Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm more astounded that the chap can't spell 'Ian' tbh.

I think people are being overly snippy about this. It's a professional game, his caddy gets paid a small fortune and maybe he entitled to pull him up if he feels he didn't give him accurate advice on club selection. Would a caddy at that level be expected to know his player's distances by club to the inch if struck properly?
I thought it didn't even sound too bad, not exactly a rant.
Not saying I'd agree with petulance on the course, but didn't sound like that to me. Speith of all players has always stressed the 'we' and spread the credit around when has won. I reckon he's entitled to tick his caddy off if he's not happy with something, without everyone jumping on him. It just that everything gets picked up now and amplified.

Funnily enough I dont remember Greller bringing up the 3 perfect yardages that Spieth dunked in the water at the Masters...while in the lead.

Wouldn't that be a hoot, if they had a stand up row - in public - about all the shots Speith screwed up?

'Don't be giving me that aul crap, what about the 12th at Augusta, ya b**lix'?
'Perfect yardage, my hoop, tis a wonder you didn't sh*nk it.'
'Here, you can carry your own bag, I'm off down the pub, you ungrateful little sh*t' .
    'Your ma'
    etc, etc

    Cue applause from the crowd.....

I am liking the online coverage from the website. Loads of viewing options and ads only between holes, not every 15 minutes either. Decent commentary too. It's a pleasure to not be able to hear Paul McGinley droning away his excruciating diatribes. Also nice to not have to deal with those snoozefest Sky Sports guys who have the charisma of a 4 day old mackeral forgotten at the bottom of the fridge. Woeful the lot of them.

    That is all.

I suppose you preferred to watch Justin Leonard to Tiger Woods 15 years ago?

Yeah, that would have been a good move for the caddie alright. Even if he was right. Maybe he should have given Speith a right old ticking off and threatened to sack him.

Molinari has been all over the shop his first 7 holes. Only one bogey though and has got up and down on every other hole!!

Tiger hitting it very good so far but putts haven’t dropped

Spieth over the back again, say some fun chats going on

What do people think the winning score will be?

    Something like -12 or -13?

Yeah - 12 should be a good shout.

Hopefully lower, that's quite high for a US open. Hopefully will speed up the greens for the weekend, but not cause too many ridiculous bogeys

Think the speed is ok. Need to harden up the greens though. Very receptive still and of course the lack of any wind is the main issue.

Surely be some correlation between harder greens and faster ones? But yeah, agree with you anyway

Yeah, pity the weather is a bit grim.

Would be great if the US open was held here every year.

Fair to say Woods is out of contention now? Disappointing back 9.

    66/1 with the bookies.

I had no issues yesterday or earlier today using the featured groups on the app but now it’s geographically blocked.

Any ideas on how to get around this?? Might be my only way to watch the golf over the weekend is thru my phone

Rory and Gmac are on the featured Live groups on the US Open site now

What’s the cut? I always thought US Open was 60 and was mentioned on Sky last night. But official app has the line at 70 and seeing varying answers when I Google it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 433 ✭✭sliabh 1956

In case you wondering just what's going to happen later in terms of the cull at the end of the second round, this explanation should do the trick:

The top 60 players (including ties) make the cut.
There is no 10-shot rule, which would include any player 10 shots within the lead.
These rules were implemented in 2012 to combat increasingly large weekend fields.
The US Open is one of the strictest majors. The PGA Championship includes the top 70 and ties, while The Masters keeps the top 50 but uses the 10-shot rule - so more than half of the field usually see play at the weekend.

DJ didn't find his ball there, how did he just drop out? Didn't hit a provo. Should he not have had to go back to the tee?

It was a penalty area (red stakes) not out of bounds

Enjoying this this evening. Deadly boring in the afternoon when the adults were playing.

Really impressed with Rory. Fabulous tee shot on 7. He seems to be in control of his game right now. Think he will go close.

    Wife asleep - Check
    Three kids asleep - Check
    Erdinger at hand - Check
3 kids by myself all weekend - Check

    Worth it. Most definitely

It's not sky it's the host broadcast. Sky can't do anything about it, as infuriating as it is

Mcilroy looks very in control of his game

Some run by McDowell, 4 birdies in a row

I think based on what I've seen so far that I expect this to come down to a battle between Rory and Brooks on Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,493 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Like a teenage breakup there between Spieth and Greller

I have to agree. It’s really taking me out of the relaxed zone I go into when I’m watching golf.

    Incessant, intrusive and infuriating.

    Great bunker shot from Rors.

    Fowler having a mini meltdown.

How bad is that from Fowler, was 50 yards left of the green.

And that's why Rickie will never win a major.

It is extremely annoying. Also annoying is the positioning of the Sky logo on the bottom right of the screen which covers the player's current score.

I'm teeing off in 7.5 hours....enthralled here though so can't give up just yet

Some save from mcilroy there on 12. He’s gone favourite for the tournament and it’d be tough to bet against him the way he’s playing.

So Rory has a bogey and then compounds it by driving the ball too far and into the rough. We'll see how he does on this he but it's something I've noticed happening with him quite a bit of late.

So Rory goes and double bogeys the par 5 14th. As I said in my previous post, it's a bit of a problem for Rory where he compounds mistakes. All his good work undone in two holes and he's back at -3.
