Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I usually "thank" stuff that's funny enough though the "thank" system is ghey, well a thank system like reddit is great but thats never gonna happen here

I'm still not too sure about the reddit system tbh.

It makes sense for reddit as they have the whole frontpage thing goin' on. Worthwile stuff will get to the front page so its kinda like a quality control measure. So if someone thinks a topic/pic/whatever isn't frontpage worthy they can downvote it so it will get less exposure. But you can see a problem with that already. Sometimes people downvote stuff for personal and petty reasons, and aren't as objective as they'd like to think they are.

Imagine we had that on boards. Boards is a relatively smaller community to reddit. Regulars know each other quite well... and some regulars don't really like others for reasons A, B, or C. Lets say, for example, someone posts something in AH (be it a topic or comment or whatever). Someone downvotes it for a completely unrelated reason maybe because they disagreed on another forum about some unrelated topic, and of course they kinda took it personally. If you only have the ability to upvote (thank) a post, then you can't downvote it for some stupid petty personal or unrelated reason. If you don't like something you can simply not thank it and move on.

Reddit could still use the boards system for quality control anyway and it would still work out fine. Boards uses it for post of the day and it still works out fine.

Both have their problems, but I think I'd go with the thank system if I HAD to choose simply for the above reasons.

Besides, the thank system lessens all the "this" and "+1" bullshit :D. At least if someone dislikes something and wants others to know, pressure gets put on them to give reasons why.

Why do you prefer the reddit system anyway? :pac:

It's cringe to you and funny to others, what difference does it make who laughs or who thanks other posters.

    OP, why you mad brah?

Fighting Irish, I think it's poor form to pick on individual posts from other threads and hold them up as examples of people not being funny.
At least they're trying to be entertaining.

It's not against the charter as the posts are from AH (I think), but it's not very nice.

What should AH be like, and how to you contribute to the forum to make it the way you want?

Oh Sindri, what wackiness will he come up with next in his search of praise and adulation? Ha, find out next time.

I enjoy reading some peoples posts and there are regulars who nearly always come up with something good . Sindri usually makes me laugh . A couple of bad jokes isnt the worse thing in the world . Just block him if he gets you down so much .

Before the thanks system did people only post funny stuff? Also if people were too worried about getting crap off the likes of you OP for posting unfunny stuff then a lot of genuinely funny stuff would never get posted either.

I really want a thanks button & an 'unthanks' button, and also to be able to see who has thanked & unthanked me. Oh, the hours of fun I'd have, whoring after my thankers, and blasting my unthankers with witty putdowns which are just sufficiently short of being abusive to prevent me from getting banned...

Me & my mates could trawl through users profiles & find thanks & unthanks targets!! Yesss! the capacity for general trollage, clique formation, & mental masturbation would be absolutely endless!

If its appropriate then yeah throw in something like that but coming onto Boards just to try and post "funny" comments it is a bit sad.

It doesn't wind me up that much, the thank system is handy as you're scrolling down and see a whole chunk of thanks its usually worth having a look at, otherwise I can easily ignore any lame posts (which we are all entitled to make) but one post was really sad, once I was talking about a friend with an illness, and yes I did get a reply with a really lame "joke" about their aliment basically about them, if it was funny, related, or I said something silly that would be meh what it is, like If I was talking about my mothers illness and someone just replied yor ma it wouldn't phase me.

It really wouldn't. You'd just end up with people who dislike a poster "no thanking" every post they make and it would result in pointless spats breaking out in threads.

I mean, i reckon you'd feel pretty bad if you looked over this thread and noticed that i had effectively given the thumbs down to every post you made, which is pretty much what would have happened.

Okay. Lets be serious for a second. So what you're advocating is the many many posters posting subjectively should A) either stop or B) post for your amusement only. Or (and I'm coming from left field here, bare with me) C) you can either deal with it without being a little bitch or you can post somewhere else because either AHs will change or you will change or you'll have to put up with it which appears to be a task beyond you.

    Feedback>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> FTW! :pac:

But I don't think that would work. It would make things too cliquey, with people "no thanking" people they've got a grudge against.

I think it would also be intimidating for people who have an opinion that might be controversial, or something funny, which they worry could lead to them getting lots of "no thanks," so they don't bother posting it.

Personally I don't care about people trying to be funny and failing: I don't mind it in real life, so why should I care about it on the internet?

It keeps a load of pointless posts that do nothing but quote other posts and say "+1" off the board, so it's pretty handy in that respect.
