1st pro's should be out at Maam around 8.30 -8.40 depending on winds posibly a little earlier. They all start at 7am sharp.

All in all not too bad.

What an incredible finish! Saw it from the "grandstand", two guys at their absolute limit! Amazing to see. Not to mention the pornstar that came in third.

Fair play to all involved, looked like a great race to take part in. Smiles all round from the competitors (after finishing of course!). Great atmosphere all around the event, blessed with the weather.

26th in my AG
Took 20mins off my run time and 5mins off my bike from the Humbert. I'm absolutely delighted. Swim time was 42mins but I believe it was 200 meters longer.
5:13 overall, the weather was beautiful, got sunburned.
The buzz around a big race is massive and the support was brilliant.
Mayo beating the Dubs made it the perfect Carlsberg weekend.

you wouldn't have though there were another 1700 athletes out there.
and in returning his timing chip he asked to skip the queue for the bike retrieval as the paperazzi were "waiting" for him.:rolleyes:
In fairness I have to respect his charity work but as a competitor not so much.
aside from that I really enjoyed the day and bring on next year!;);)

Plus his trans bags weren't in transition tent at T2, he just hopped the black/yellow tape and went off elsewhere, VIP changing section?

Really enjoyed myself yesterday! did this event last year and what a difference on weather and organization. It was good to see that they listened to the feed back and made the improvements. I didn't have the food after as i only live around the corner but "Supermacs" as post race food, wouldn't touch the S*!t. I loved the little touches like tarmacadam on the rise and fall from pavement to road. . Using peacocks entrance and exit as the turning point.The fuel stop on the bike leg was top notch. I just felt privileged to be a competitor yesterday, i know i payed a big price but i felt i got my money worth. Things i like to see changed for next year:

1, Expo needs to be far better than this years effort. heard there was a mix up between Ironman uk and Ireland.

2, After race food. can you call Supermacs food?

3, road surface between Oughterard and Mamm Cross. council needs to sort this out.

Yeah, transition was 2k from the finish line for Rosanna's run.

Great race.
Did it in 5.06 so was about 45 mins quicker than i thought and 24th in age group and 86th overall. Mainly down to my best cycle by a long shot. Blew up bad on the run and was barely moving for the last 5km, but did it in 1.43 so cant complain too bad.

lots of drafting going on out on the course.

They should have had a choice though. A cold sh*tty supermac's burger was the last thing I wanted to eat afterwards.
Would have murdered a cheese or salad sandwich & a few cakes with my tea afterwards. The sort of spread you get at some of the road races, Dunshaughlin 10k for example.

i was just thinking back through the swim and remembered being surprised at the amount of people zig zagging in the water. Couldnt believe the angles some people were going at. I was kind of towards the front third of the swim which made it that bit more surprising

There was plenty of TV coverage on TG4 last year. I think the show was repeated on SKY or Eurosport too a couple of times.

Yeah !! me too .. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something? but seeing as I didn't touch the post race food { as too lazy to que up } was perplexed as too the cause but my head wrists and knees / shins are bit to **** .. ? why as there was enough of a head wind after 1st feed station on run .

A mate of mine was a volunteer at the swim start. He was eaten alive at the start area. Perhaps that was when most people were bitten by midges and didn't notice at the time?

A lot of the damage was done while in transition area at 5.30 -6.30am. The lamps in there had clouds around them and it was like a midge all-you-can-eat BBQ with victims huddled around their bikes.

I was guilty of that. Came around the first buoy had the far one sighted and some guy swam over me - completely threw my stroke and ended up heading back to shore with the current. Managed to correct that and still finish in under 40mins

you have to hand it to them on Sunday ......... the improvement from last year in organisation for competitors was great, the weather helped and I have never enjoyed a Supermacs burger so much, in fact I went back and got another one !

Too much drafting on the bikes, but then this is a factor in all races the past couple of seasons .........

As for Keith Duffy (Team Duffy) - he was staying opposite me in one of the caravan parks (in his motor home) - he was very approachable - the picture on page 2 of the race program is him and a mate of mine - so I asked if he'd sign it .......... not a bother to him - fair play - nice bloke !

Finished 68th in 40-44 AG ........... well under the magical 6hr goal !

The weather saved the race for sure - I left Galway on Monday evening - lashing rain and the wind was blowing through you !

Well done to all ..........

thanks guys for posting re midge bites.
I was also covered in bites on monday morning - but thought it was some allergic reaction. They were very slow to surface so didn't really think about getting them on sunday morning - which probably happened at the swim start.

Overall - congrats to galway 70.3. Race was excellent and well done and thanks to all the supporters on the course - probably the best supported race I have seen in ireland.

Yep there was great support and heard my name being shouted by random strangers. Didn't know if it was just cause of name on trikit or known shout outs!
Either way all were appreciated and really made for a great race.
Unfortunately I wasn't in reciprocating form and kept the head down trying to complete the task at hand.

Not sure where you can watch it online but I had it sky+ and only watched it last night. I actually feature quite prominently in it, when the 2 lads are sprinting for the finish I'm the dopey looking eejit that Bozzone nearly knocks over. Put's it into perspective when you consider they where finishing and I was just starting my run.
I'll get you next year Bozzone, next year.........

It was on Channel Four again yesterday morning. I recorded it & watched it last night. To be honest your not missing much, it basically cuts between Keith Duffy & the race leaders for the entire show with Duffy getting considerably more time again than the actual winners. Even Rosanna Davison & Kathryn Thomas who were also doing it for charity didn't get a mention.
