Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nice morning here too. It’s warm in the sun but the sun is a bit in and out. Am I right in reading that next week from Sunday on isn’t looking great?

Bright in Castlebar, but only 12.4C and feeling colder in a light breeze, a couple of light showers so far this morning as well.

Nice heat off the sun out on Inisbofin, breezy but warm :)

Don't the british met office normally give a reasonably accurate monthly forecast?

Will this summer just peter out or could we get solid good weather for 2 or 3 weeks yet?

It was worrying when the met eireann forecasters were so gloomy a couple of weeks back, like it was a pattern for the summer.

Given the blocking in place at the moment you would expect the westerly pattern to break through at some stage and then who knows.

lashing rain here now in Meath, heavy showers, I was hoping today would have stayed dry for us, cool now with a temperature of just 14C.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,047 ✭✭✭Clonmel1000

Normal service resumed. Heavy shower gone through and it’s been cloudy since mid morning.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,966 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

no sun at all today, cool and short sharp showers since lunchtime, bit of a rubbish day really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Mobhi1

Mostly cloudy here this afternoon; just had a brief shower; it's currently 16.5C after an earlier high of 17.5C. North Dublin city.

Its mad the difference in a few miles, we've had good glimpses of the sun down here, and only 1 quick shower around lunch time but nothing since, overall not a bad day.

The British met have forecasted mixed weather for the end of June and into the start of July, I would say with the low pressure moving away from us from next week and the Jet stream forecasted moving north of Scotland from the beginning of July things should be a bit more settled

Not a very summery evening here in north Glasnevin. It's just started raining and it's not terribly warm at 13.9C.

certainly no summer today in Meath, was mostly a cool and very cloudy day with several heavy showers, some late evening sunshine now and ground starting to dry up. Still feeling nippy tho.

Tomorrow likely to be the coolest day of the week, then warming up again for Friday and Saturday.

Would love one but I’m going to Spain on Sunday for two weeks so I might miss out on all the fun. Ah I still hope it happens. Sure I can read all the posts about it on the beach. It’d be fantastic if we got a proper thunderstorm with plenty of lightning.

no doubt if this happens, Meath will miss out yet again, we just don't get proper thunderstorms, except maybe once every 25 to 50 years! It's been 34 years since the last one, so perhaps we are almost due one this year!

Funny it seems that we're more likely to get heat waves or a good belt of snow in Ireland than a proper thunder storm....

yep heatwaves or snow storms are way more common than proper thunderstorms in this country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭pauldry

In a Summer thats offered nothing but a big freeze and rain so far at least thunderstorms are more exciting rain

Think heatwaves are only in India and Greenland this Summer....n parts of Canada n Siberia.

Climate change eh? But wer just getting cool pools most Summers

Quite extreme temperatures coming up from this heatwave, watch out France and Germany.

Not sure how it will affect us here, but certainly quite warm if this model comes true.

that's always the way, at least here in Meath, any warm or hot spell we've had get's quickly replaced by a heavy downpour from the Atlantic and cooler air without any bangs or flashes, yet England usually lights up like a Christmas tree. They've already had it several times this summer, including 2 nights ago.

astonishingly the GFS 06Z has the 20 degree 850hpa isotherm over the country.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

A lovely bright day in Castlebar, 15.1C but with a moderate breeze making it feel cooler.

astonishingly the GFS 06Z has the 20 degree 850hpa isotherm over the country.

this warm up looks very sudden and short lived, back to fresh conditions very quickly. This mornings run has the possibilites of a 21 to 22C isotherm over Dublin, which is just not going to happen. Imagine if this happened mid August.

    ens_image.php?geoid=64981&var=201&run=6&date=2019-06-20&model=gfs&member=ENS&bw=

On the forecasts not going for high temperatures in Dublin next week, BBC showing 19 or 20C possible next week.

GFS also giving near normal temperatures for Dublin next week, possibly getting to 20C. We'll see what happens.

Rain has just arrived; it doesn't seem to have produced very much - it's all gone now. It's 15.9C now. The high a half hour or so ago was 18.1C so far.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,966 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

fairly heavy rain for past half hour, starting to ease now tho.

Sunny all day in north meath, escaped the showers again, was breezy earlier but not now, looks like a grand evening ahead.

in all my time looking at the thunderstorm risk charts on the GFS iv never seen such a high chance of activity over Ireland. So rare to see the bright red/orange/yellow shadings over Ireland. Is nobody remotely excited? Met Eireann also highlighting the risk of some thunderstorms as early as sunday night.
