Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great rendition, great to see the smiles on their faces!

Yeah, their attitude has been amazing from the start.

Never any signs of nerves, it generates huge confidence and they inspire each other to play to their best.

Good positive start : they're trying to take the game to the Dutch at every opportunity

Spoke too soon....that's what NL do though, can't fault the Irish effort at all though so far

    Ah feck it.

Damn it - hopefully they keep their heads up because they were holding their own before the goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,151 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Only problem with the goal is that it has settled Dutch nerves and their tails are up. Ireland still playing well within themselves though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 442 ✭✭Mr_Man2121

It's fantastic how much support this Irish team has. Even this thread had 30 posts after the group stages were over now it's at 207. Fantastic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,337 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

The Dutch are very good(well that's my assumption not being a hockey expert)

  • Registered Users Posts: 442 ✭✭Mr_Man2121

Only 1-0 is great to be fair

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭taytobreath

It's a good game. I'm enjoying it. They are defending well in fairness to them. I think they will work their way into this game the further it goes.

    I hope.

Ireland have actually defended extremely well, they've been very disciplined

Hopefully. They just need to take their chances when they get them

    Ireland's goin home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,151 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Ah, that was a bit more sloppy....all came from a rushed clearance when there was no need to rush it and the Dutch will punish any mistakes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,337 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

    Damn it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

3-0 ... Netherlands seem to be in a different league. Hope we can get a goal and keep the score down at the other end.

    4-0

The Dutch are on fire. Very hard to play against a world class team when they are full of confidence......the much dreaded rout might happen

Pity the hooter didn't sound about 2 or 3 minutes ago as Ireland totally lost their shape and conceded twice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Pity. Couple of those goals looked preventable but difference in class is palpable. Just limit the damage and nick a consolation bout all that’s left now.

Yes, you wouldn't want to be coming off the pitch with an 8-0 or 10-0 defeat in a WC final. Try and keep it tight at least.

Surely they could play a Dutch song when the Netherlands score?

I'd be happy if I didn't hear Dancing Queen again for a long, long, time.

6-0 and there's plenty still to go. This is embarrassing and shameful. They've gone and undone all the praise they rightly deserved to get with this horror show. Whatever ceremony they were going to arrange should be cancelled. Utter shambles. Now I know how Brazilians felt in 2014 in their semi-final.

    Complete and Utter Bull****.

Netherlands would beat most teams in the World easily.

This Ireland team are heroes, we have never reached a World Cup Final in anything and we might never do it again.

You're some supporter, as soon as things go against your team you are hurling abuse and insults at them.

    World Cup Finalists.

No neanderthals can ever take that away from them.

You know nothing of sport. This is a final that's all you're right on. The only shameful thing is your attitude.

Netherlands only beat Australia on a penalty shootout. Today Spain - who Ireland beat - bested Australia for the bronze medal.

There's no reason why Ireland couldn't at the very least have made this competitive. This has been a bottle job.

    Have Holland been hammering everyone?

Despite the two semi-finals being competitive, and despite Ireland's defeated opponents Spain today beating Australia 3-1 - who the Dutch needed a shootout to beat - the revisionist narrative now is going to be that little, plucky Ireland were always going to be outmatched by the superior Dutch outfit.

It's a nice comforting story but it's nonsense. We choked on the big stage. Facts are facts. You don't need to be Roy Keane to realise there's nothing to take out of this performance. But sure let's sing the Fields of Athenry and give a hero's reception to a team that got thrashed. And people wonder why we don't reach World Cup Finals too often.

Care to explain and show these facts. We always were going to be outmatched. Dutch have only twice ever not been to a semi final. Sixth successive final. We didnt at all choke. We over achieved in getting to this level.

How is it revisionist? Who said beforehand Ireland had a great chance of winning?
