Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I must say, I am shocked. My drone arrived yesterday!!!

Ordered on 4th Jan, shipped 6th Jan, arrived 22nd Jan :o

    Tracking information is absolutely useless.

For those that received their drones - did they come with the battery installed in the body? (mine did)

What's the best site to track the drone? Ordered mine 12th Dec. Nothing showing on the app yet under tracking.

Just curious, why would this drone be better than a standalone one that you fit your own camera to, like this one for €199 ?

    https://www.tomtop.com/p-rm3480us.html?currency=EUR&Warehouse=CN&aid=gplaiecd&mid=10000016502&utm_source=SEM&utm_medium=Google+PLA&utm_campaign=TT_PLA_IE_CD&utm_content=3707&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwcq9jNzu2AIVhbftCh3Faw9eEAQYASABEgK9fvD_BwE

The reviews for this model (X380) suggest it has one of the longest flight times at circa 30 mins

I suppose for lots of people who don't have a 4k sports camera to attach to a drone it wouldn't make sense to buy a drone that needs a separate camera. Also there is no gimbal supplied with the drone above. Doesn't look like it can display a First Person View, but perhaps that would depend on the camera you pair with it and it's features. It's range is about a quarter of what the xiaomi is capable of too.

Bare in mind that there is now a gimbal available for the xiaomi that will allow you to use the camera from the drone as a stabilised 4k handheld video camera. Pretty attractive feature for those without a gopro.

I haven't been following this thread fully, but just so I know would either of those two drones (the one I mentioned and the one in this thread) require the license to fly due to the weight/range?

    Got the same message today.

I've been following this thread for a while. Really tempted to buy it! A few questions if anyone could help.

    1. How difficult is it to operate? I've had very cheap RC quadcopters to get the hang of it. Obviously this would be much better in terms of performance but how long will it take to get flying long distances with it.

    2. I plan on using PayPal. How covered am I if it does not arrive? Will gear best/paypay refund?

    3. Anyone order recently and get it delivered in a few weeks? I've seen people waited months due to xmas. Would I be better off holding off for delivery backlogs to clear?

    Thanks!

Regarding the questions about the drone - this thread is 48 pages long, have you looked at the footage of the drone?

You will NOT get anything like this drone for €350 delivered, at this moment in time, end of.

and this is coming from some one who had issues with gearbest and my original drone ..

So, needs a license to fly or no?

    From here https://www.iaa.ie/docs/default-source/default-document-library/drones-questions-and-answers-16-11-17.pdf?sfvrsn=3da404f3_2

    11. Do I need to register my drone with the IAA?
    All drones over 1kg
and drones operated above 15m (50ft),
must be registered with the IAA.
    This inclu
des the weight of the battery and all attached equipment. You can register your drone
via the IAA website at www.iaa.ie/drones

    And from here https://xiaomi-mi.com/drones/xiaomi-mi-drone-4k/

the weight is given as 1376g .

So it needs to be registered, if that's what you mean.

    Unless ....

    12. Do I need a qualification to operate a drone
If you operate within the limits set in the Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drones)
    and Rockets Order,
2015 (SI 563 of 2015), no qualification is required. However, to operate under Specific Operating
Permission, a Pilot Competency Certificate is required. www.iaa.ie/dronesapplicationforms

So it depends what you're doing with it.

Never flew a drone until I got this. Was a bit nervous at first but there was no need. Very easy to fly and control. Love it.

So the drone and unboxed it, put it together and downloaded some firmware update.

Now when I try to connect my phone to the Remote Control it says it 'cannot update, no TF card detected" even though I have a 32gb card in the gimbal with 30gb free.

Anyone any ideas? Went to do my first flight today and couldn't get it off the ground because of this ðŸ™

Did you format the sd card using the app first ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭Lanshane

Yes try and get the card formatted. My card when formatted uses the 'Ex Fat' file format system. Works fine for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,627 ✭✭✭tedpan

What kind of card are you using?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭keltoms05

When I go into the app, then camera settings, and format tf card it's says 'camera not connected'

    Class 10 32Gb card

For the camera not connected issue, make sure you have a good physical connection and check that it is locked in place. Try a gimbal calibration from the app. If it doesn't get anywhere after pressing the start button, power cycle the drone and that should jumpstart the connection.

The card looks fine although haven't heard of the intenso brand, so it should be fine.

Remove the battery and gimbal, check the gimbal clicks. Then reinstall the battery and turn on the drone. The camera will move within 5 seconds once it's correctly connected.

Is the camera moving on start up?

Any lights on the camera if so?

    Sounds like issue I had

Yeah got it going, I just left it for a while and when I turned it on again it allowed the update - strange one!

Took it out for the first flight yesterday and it last about 4 minutes before I hit a branch 😣 one of the props broke but that was all the damage I think.

Took it out again today (in a bigger open space!) And was great fun, it was dodgey out when I launched first - think there might have been a bit of dirt in one of the motors, but after a couple of minutes it was fine.

    Here's the first video:

Tedpan you were saying about it recording 2 files for each video - one small thumbnail and one large. The trouble with mine is that all the large good quality ones are corrupted for some reason? Any ideas?

    keltoms05 wrote:
I have the video set to record in 4k but looks as though it only recorded in 360p.

Yeah, that's the low quality thumbnail. It should be recording both files at the same time. When connected, go into camera settings and set it to record at 1080p, 30fps. Maybe the SD card/laptop can't process 4k files.

Also note that you need to press stop at the end of the recording and not to switch off anything until you've pressed stop, otherwise the file hasn't been finalized and will be corrupted.

Ok I know I am probably a bit late in the game on this. My brother is looking to get a drone and after looking around he thinks this might be the best value for money. Just wondering which is best method for ordering? I see it is on Gearbest for 390 so I guess this is best price?

    Thanks

Yeah, probably your best bet. I know there were vouchers last year which brought it down to around 350e. Not sure it's worth the wait though, I spent 450e on it and am still really happy with it.

    Best of luck

Thanks for advice, he is complete beginner. Never flew a Drone before. He lives in middle of nowhere so flight paths are not any issue.

Just wondering if it is recommended for a new user? I read thread and know about setting the home location before flying....

I just seen a few times over Christmas on the local area forums people posting looking for Drones that had flew off

Perfect for a beginner. Just watch some YouTube videos of setting it up etc. Once you get the hang of it, you/he'll realise how easy it is to fly. Locks onto GPS when you let go of the control sticks and returns to home.

Once you've had 30 minutes with it, you'll fly like a pro

Yep fully agree 60 mins under my belt and I’m quite comfortable with it now

If you're meaning about customs, at €11 it's well under the threshold for that, so you won't get hit.

Yep, not bad for both. The batteries range from 60euro(sale times) to 90 at peak times. The case was 50euro when I bought my quad, so 20 is decent.

G-w-4 seems to be their polish warehouse and g-w-5 is their Prague warehouse where most the drones that were ordered on here from china where sent first so should speed up delivery a good bit if you ordered from there.hopefully the will stock some batteries here soon
