Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think a milder interlude may well happen during the second week of January, but i remain fairly confident it will be short lived. I don't think we'll see a return to normal Atlantic service long term. In the meantime, i'm going to enjoy the snow that is here now!

My worry is that if we dont get a decent cold spell before mid Jan is the fact that we haven't had a decent cold spell in this country in the second half of January in years. I suppose it has to happen again sometime but it is amazing how devoid of proper cold spells we have had in the second half of January for donkeys years.
Even the great but relatively short cold spell of 87 fizzled out by the second half. Think we have to go back to at least the mid 80s that delivered a proper cold spell during the latter half of Jan.

No snow this afternoon on the conor pass. Saw some on Mount Brandon.

Mixed afternoon of sunshine and rain.

Both 18z gfs runs (operational and par) bring a slice of ppn down the centre of the country tomorrow...

Seeing Met E showing light snow and sleet for Naas. So a few minutes show? I'm glad it is happening during the day because the lamp posts still don't have electricity in our new estate. -_-

Hope you are right but GFS shows it as rain and having flicked through a good few other models only euro 04 in any way supports snow over low ground (and very patchily) so not a convert yet....

Thick frost here in cork city on the cars tonight, chilly out and a bright moon. As above, been a while since I’ve seen a night like this.

Yeah the Bbc forecast not great for daytime tomorrow, looks like a cold damp/wet day in the north wind.

Haven't seen a frost this hard for a long time. The grass is very crunchy. It'll be interesting to see the grass minima in a few hours.

Yes indeed, the moon and moolight is just magical this evening and it rose as far to the NE as I have ever seen.

I no longer care if it snows with this image and experience in my heart and mind.

It is the reflection over the wide ocean... Cannot see for tears at the beauty. ;)

Blessing the straying cat as it was so cold I would not have gone outside!

On a practical note; I was able to replenish fuel supplies yesterday and am sure that boardsies are keeping a "weather eye" on old neighbours in this bitter cold.

    It really is harsh tonight.

    Thank you.

Thinking there may be some snow in south Ulster and north Leinster this morning, then mixtures by mid-day when the showery precip is further south, snow retreating to higher ground but some could still fall briefly at any point, including overnight into early NYD. Hit or miss at best though.

Light snow north Offaly on top of hard frost. Perfect combination.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,996 ✭✭✭Slashermcguirk

Moderate snowfall now in D5. Was this expected?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,981 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

There's a band of ppn moving South tomorrow that has snow written all over it!!
Hit or miss but South Midlands looks the sweet spot to me as it does weaken as it moves South.
It deserves a warning far more than last night's affair did.

    Sub 528 thickness >
    Uppers of -4 / -5
    Ppn heavy at times
    Offshore wind

I'd lay my last dollar that this one will catch Met Eireann on the hop!!
    Snowing in Cork now!!

Flurry stopped now but enough to whiten the grey frost. Need more to make a snowball though, my criteria for a measurable fall...the cloud has risen the temp to just around freezing from - 2.

Photo taken from my house of the snow clouds over Dublin. Looks light though. But delighted for anyone that is getting it. Actually that's Bray but I assume same weather affecting Sandyford

While a small amount, lovely to see a covering of snow in Dublin. I think January could be interesting!

I did say back in November that I thought December would deliver better than previous years, while nothing mega it delivered snow to many counties which was not the case in the last number of years.

January has good potential and the continent seems to be cooling down. The nation holds its breath

    Edit, snow flurry again now

Light verging on moderate snow now, not a flake being wasted.
