I was just chatting to a friend about those catchy religious songs on tape in primary school. Remember *cheesy midi sounds*'...there was Judas Issscccaarrrrriot, there was Thomas and thats the lot!' *beat* to help us name the Apostles. Anymore that ye can think of?

The words "Zacheuss was a greedy little maaaan..." pop into my head for some reason.

I have that tape at home from when i was teaching RE in Swords. Its from the 'children of God' religious textbook series. I remember Zacchaeus was a greedy little man who cheated all the people in the land..... niow my mind has gone blank as to the other songs. That one is going to be in my head all day now!

The apostles song is still on the current programme in primary schools. Think its the Alive-0 CD for 2nd class. was teaching it to a class and thinking back to my own school days, its funny how some things never change

[sings] "harrum bay, harrum bay, harrum bay, let's pull together...."

Was just reminiscing about those songs the other day and wondering if they were still in circulation...can't believe the apostle song is still in there, but it is a catchy number I suppose!

Zacchaeus was a greedy little man who cheated all the people in the land.....

And when the rent they couldn't pay, he would take their farms away and the furniture and everything they had..

I can't quote Shakespeare but I remember this..

There was another one which I can't quite remember whether it was from Religion class or Bosco (!) . It went:

You've got to listen, you've got to hear, so use your ears, use your ears, you've got to listen, you've got to he-e-ear, so that's what ears are for, so listen!

The verse went something like this:
I hear Mum call me when it's time for tea and I answer mum I'm coming, when you hear a sound and its all around blah blah..

Ah yes, where would we be without singing nuns who made us learn these naff songs :) Thankfully I've forgotten most of them but the story of the Good Samaritan is still in my head. We also had to sing prayers like the grace before and after meals. We also had some song we sang in the mornings before class began and maybe another one in the evening.

    In the bible I'm supposin',
that the people they were chosen,
and they didn't know what to do - ooo
So they sang to god in glory,
to send a hero of the story,
and set them free to make their dreams come true - oo!

So they bundled up their wagons,
and prepared to make a start.
They trundled through the Red Sea with the waters wide apart,
the chariots of Pharaoh thought they'd capture all the slave,
    But
something something something they were gobbled up by waves.

    Mmmm - mmmm

We're off to the promised land they land of milk and honey,
    slavery is over,
and the fields are full of clover,
and the skies are warm and sunny.
We look to the sky at night,
to lead us in our journey,
    God will lead us carefully,
    and will give us rest,
    under a guiding star.

Don't think that's quite right though, I'm sure Moses' name is in there somewhere.

The story I remember most from Primary School is Zacchaeus.

Btw..do these bring back memories for you?!:D

Grace before meals: Bless us oh lord as we sit together, bless the food we eat today, bless the hands that made the food, bless us oh lord, Amen.

Grace after meals: Thank you god for the food we have eaten, thank you god for all our friends, thank you god for everything, thank you oh god, Amen.

I can remember the tunes to them and all :D That's what I get for going to a school full of singing nuns. They used to stick melodies to everything. We had a tune for Our Father and did actions and everything to it. A bit like the Macarena really.

The other one i remember was 'the animals went in two by two, hurrah, hurrah'. It was to do with Noah's ark and i learn;t in around senior infants in the early 80's. Can anyone remember it?

I found the full words here but i could only remember the tune and the first line!

The animals went in two by two, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in two by two, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in two by two, the elephant and the kangaroo
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.
The animals went in three by three, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in three by three, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in three by three, the wasp, the ant and the bumble bee
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.

The animals went in four by four, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in four by four, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in four by four, the great hippopotamus stuck in the door
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.

The animals went in five by five, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in five by five, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in five by five, they warmed each other to keep alive
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.

The animals went in six by six, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in six by six, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in six by six, they turned out the monkey because of his tricks
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.

The animals went in seven by seven, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in seven by seven, hurrah! hurrah!
The animals went in seven by seven, the little pig thought he was going to heaven
And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.

    Anyone remember this one:

    Growing up...Growing up to be,

A caterpillar grows to be a butterfly

And a seed grows up to be a flower,

Fish grow fins to blah blah!!

Also I loved Harambay..let's pull together.

Did your teachers make you do the thing where each row would start a song at a different time and it would sound deadly, we were better than the Harlem Gospel Choir when we got going.

We also had a song for our Confirmation and it was 12 pages long. And it was soooo boring!!

    It was something like this:

Rejoice heavenly powers...sing choirs of angels (can't remember any of the rest)

We used to sing them! Though the tune was about as tuneful as 'My Lovely Horse'.

I would absolutely LOVE to hear these songs again!
