I feel so left out, I went to an Irish primary so I don't know half of these, damn it! But I do remember in 6th class, my teacher was very obsessed with religion and he tried his very, very hardest to get us all really interested. This resulted in us learning Whenever God Shines His Light On Me by Van Morrison.

Anyone who went to an Irish school might know this one...
Agus duairt sé a pheadar *clapclap*
is tú a bheis mar easpal agam féin, fág do bhád is líon agus tar, is lean mé!
Déan dearmad ar an iasc *clapclap* fág the bhád is lean mé! :>

    this spelling is awful D:

"Mums and dads and families fishing in the bay, everyone decided that they'd call it harrum bay!! harrum bay, harrum bay, harrum bay, lets pull together, harrum bay, day by day" :)

    Anyone remember this one:

    Growing up...Growing up to be,

A caterpillar grows to be a butterfly

And a seed grows up to be a flower,

Fish grow fins to blah blah!!

"....Fish grow fins,to wriggle and jiggle and swim,
Birds grow beaks to peck and sing(?)
I grow up to be me."

That was a really hard song to sing-we had to use really high pitched voices!

(to the tune of "we're all part of Jackie's army")
    "Jesus loves the little children
All the little children in the world
    Red and yellow,black and white
They're all precious in his eyes
Jesus loves the little children of the world."

    "All things bright and beautiful
    All creatures great and small
    All things wise and wonderful
The lord god made them all."

"He's got the whole world in his hands(x3)
He's got you and me brother in his hands(etc.etc.etc.etc.)"

"You've come to my heart dearest jesus
I'm holding you close to my breast
I'm telling you over and over
You're welcome my little white guest."

    "Come holy spirit,spirit come
Come holy spirit, come and live in us today
    Come holy spirit,spirit come
Live in our hearts and guide us on our way."

Cripes, I remember nearly every one of these. The Apostles song is so catchy it still pops up in my mind sometimes. We did the Zaccheus song for our Confession play as well. One I really hated was the 'Growing Up' song, possibly because the teacher tried to force us to look happy while singing it. Facists. ;)

    Was it;
"Bhí leprechaun ina shuí faoin gcrann,
    ina shuí faoin grann.
Bhí leprechaun ina shuí faoin gcrann
    agus rinne sé na bhroga.
Oro yaddio, oro yaddio, oro yaddio, ororo
Oro yaddio, oro yaddio, oro yaddio ororo"
I can't remember it exactly, my old man used to sing it to me as a lullaby when I was a babby so my memory on it is very hazy.

That's how I remember it, except we learned the bolded line as "bhí sé ag deisiú bróga".

    This one wasn't religious but...
Remember a song about a leprechaun that used to mend shoes, some of it was as gaelige I think...
In a shady nook one moonlight night, a leprechaun I spied
With scarlet cap and coat of green, a cruiscn by his side
Twas tic tac tic his hammer went, upon a weeney shoe
Well I laughed to think of the purse of gold but the fairy was laughing too.

There was also one about a lollipop stick that grew into a lollipop tree.

One fine day in early spring I played a funny trick
Right in the yard behind our house I planted a lollipop stick
Then everyday I watered it well and watched it carefully
I hoped one day that stick would grow to be a lollipop tree

    Ha ha-ha, Ho-ho-ho
    What a sight to see
Me and my lollipop, lollipop, lollipop, lolli-lolli-lollipop tree

Just the one listing all the apostles sticks in my head.
And about 80 hymns I've gradually blocked out. Ah choir days

The only one I can remember is one that went something like
"He is lord he is lord,he is risen from the dead and he is lord" and the line that followed was I think " every tree shall bend every bough shall (something) I'm sure that's all completely wrong but I never paid too much attention.

"Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that jesus christ is lord".(blah blah)

Given the choice back then,I wouldn't have paid any attention either!

    In the bible I'm supposin',
that the people they were chosen,
and they didn't know what to do - ooo
So they sang to god in glory,
to send a hero of the story,
and set them free to make their dreams come true - oo!

So they bundled up their wagons,
and prepared to make a start.
They trundled through the Red Sea with the waters wide apart,
the chariots of Pharaoh thought they'd capture all the slave,
Until water gushed upon them they were gobbled up by waves.

We're off to the promised land they land of milk and honey,
    slavery is over,
and the fields are full of clover,
and the skies are warm and sunny.
We look to the sky at night,
to lead us in our journey,
    God will lead us carefully,
    and will give us rest,
    under a guiding star.

    I always thought it was

    Until Moses in his glory,
being the hero of the story

"christ be with me,christ be near me,christ be at my right hand,....left hand,etc.etc.etc....."

"A Mhuire na ngrást,a mháthair mhic Dè,
Go gcuireadh tú ar mo leas mé,
Go sábhála tú mé in anam is corp,
Go sábhála tú mé ó (?????) is olc...."

"Ag crìost an síol,ag críost an fómhair,
I líonta Dé go gcasfar sinn,
Ó fhás go aois is ó aois go bás
    ??????????????????????
I bparathas na ngràst go rabhaimíd."
