    I am a farmer man.

    aw! I remember that one!!!

I haven't a clue what apostle song You lot are on about though (I obviously wasn't paying attention that day!)

I do remember learning some lord of the dance song when I was about 8 and that featured some apostles in it!

"Dance, dance, wherever you may be, I am the lord of the dance said he. And I lead you all wherever you may be, and I lead you all in the dance said he".
Then there was something about the fishermen apostles and stuff.

I remember loads of the communion and confirmation songs though... "walk in the light" etc etc.

ooh! assembly first thing on a monday morning!

Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and bluuuuuuuuuuuuuue!
I can see a rainbow, see a rainbow, see a rainbow tooooooo!

This is the day! This is the day! That the Lord has made, that the Lord has made!
We will rejoice, we will rejoice, and be glad in it, and be glad in it!
    *up an octave or so*
This is the day that the Lord has made! We will rejoice and be glad in it!
*and back down lower than the start, all sombre-like*
This is the day that the Lord... has...
    made.

Or before and after lunch? What were they?

Thankyou God for the food we have eaten, thankyou God, for all our friends... Thankyou God for everything... Thaaaaaaankyou God, Amen.

and the one before lunch... how did it go...?

we definitely blessed the hands that made this food at one point in the song... anyone?

ooh, this thread has me all excited, im gonna have to try remember more of those songs...

Bless us oh Lord as we sit together
Bless the food we eat today
Bless the hands that made the food
    Bless us oh LORD amen.

Some of us played the tune on the recorder while everyone else sang it!

    This one wasn't religious but...
Remember a song about a leprechaun that used to mend shoes, some of it was as gaelige I think...

sounds vaguely familiar... think i might remember it if someone else sang it (how many people posting here intend to go to the xmas beers, btw :P ) ... also, the rainbow song i posted earlier, can anyone remember the verse... i just remembered there was one... the end of it goes osmething like...

'listen with your ears, listen with yours eyes and sayyyyyyyy
i can see a rainbow, i can see a rainbow i can see a rainbow, toooooooooooooooooo'..

though that's quite probably really very wrong. did i metnion earlier 'waaaaaaaalk in the liiiiiiiiiiiight, waaaaaaaalk in the liiiiiiiiiiiight, waaaaaaaaaaaaalk in the liiiiiiiiight, walk in the light of the lord!'?

I remember that used to be said in hurried gulpy tones and completed in around 2seconds flat. Oh for the days when we were so enthusiastic about squashed ham sandwiches and diluted orange from a snoopy flask! (I want exactly that now...sigh:) )

Narco I will be stuck with that same little snippet of the rainbow song playing on a loop in my head all night. Damn you :)
I loved that Apostles song too. I'd love to hear it again .

Ah religion time was great old fun, wasn't it? I remember every day at 12 noon, the angelus bell would ring from the church next door, then we'd all stand up and say an our father, then enjoy thirty minutes of hearing all the reasons why our young souls were going to hell. On special days the parish priest would make a guest appearance to add some extra gravitas to the situation. I miss the old Ireland.

"dance then, wherever you may be,
I am the lord of the dance said he,
And I lead you all wherever you may be,
And I lead you all in the dance said he"

we had a student teacher in 4th class who taught us that 'sidney carter' song in religion class. I loved it but the the mainstream teacher would not let us sing it any more on her return!

Does anyone remember a song where in the first verse the narrator sees a fence being painted and a busy honey bee flying around.

I can only remember snippets of it

    The fence was broken down
The busy little honey bee lay dead upon the pavement
Brought down by the idle hand
    Of someone just for fun

Now these are the things that are
So how are you going to treat them
    ??? how wonderful they are
Or the love of the man who made them

i remember that apostles 1. "there was peter and matthew, james & john, with james the just and his brother jude, there was philip & bartholamew, simon and andrew too, there was judas iscariot, there was thomas and thats the lot"

I'll be singing that all day now

That song was stuck in my head for years (literally), especially the drawn out Judas Iscariot part. There was another one our teacher used to play us, 'let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of london...' I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the radio around a year ago, I always thought it was just a religion class song.

I remember hearing most of these from when the Catholics were getting brainwa... erm, indoctrinated back in school; one of the teachers had some serious affinity to that Zaccheus song I seem to remember.

jeepers, poor old zacchaeus, I can't remember the name of the religion book, but there was a picture of jesus on palm sunday i think, song was
Jesus sat down in the shade of a tree
and said to the children come sit by me
so they came and they sat and they sang and they said...

    then my mind goes blank
and walk in the light, i laughed out loud when i read that, used to love it!!

We also had a song for our Confirmation and it was 12 pages long. And it was soooo boring!!

    It was something like this:

Rejoice heavenly powers...sing choirs of angels (can't remember any of the rest)
    The Exsultet

Rejoice, heavenly powers! Sing choirs of angels!
Exult, all creation around God's throne!
Jesus Christ, our King is risen!
    Sound the trumpet of salvation!

    etc. etc.

    Totally remember the apostles song!

"Once while out upon the sea, a storm blew up quite suddenly, the apostles thought that they might drown but jesus calmed it down".

I played zaccheus in our first confession play in school..got to sing the song all my own..claim to fame.

far away in kenya where people are so poor, found that with a little help they could do much more, seeds and schools and factories swimming in the bay, everyone decided that they'd call it haram bay, haram bay, haram bay lets pull together, haram bay day by day!
    can't remember the rest

i'd love to find the religion books we used, all the song were in the back!
