Religious songs on tape in primary school

I was just chatting to a friend about those catchy religious songs on tape in primary school. Remember *cheesy midi sounds*'...there was Judas Issscccaarrrrriot, there was Thomas and thats the lot!' *beat* to help us name the Apostles. Anymore that ye can think of?

I have that tape at home from when i was teaching RE in Swords. Its from the 'children of God' religious textbook series. I remember Zacchaeus was a greedy little man who cheated all the people in the land..... niow my mind has gone blank as to the other songs. That one is going to be in my head all day now!

The apostles song is still on the current programme in primary schools. Think its the Alive-0 CD for 2nd class. was teaching it to a class and thinking back to my own school days, its funny how some things never change

There was another one which I can't quite remember whether it was from Religion class or Bosco (!) . It went:

The verse went something like this:

I remember changing the lyrics of some religious song to "He's got the whole world, up his ass"...talk about a world of trouble and an hour long visit to the prinicpals office!!!!

Ah yes, where would we be without singing nuns who made us learn these naff songs Thankfully I've forgotten most of them but the story of the Good Samaritan is still in my head. We also had to sing prayers like the grace before and after meals. We also had some song we sang in the mornings before class began and maybe another one in the evening.

Just did this lesson four weeks ago with my class..Brought me back to my own primary school days when I doing it aswell..love the song I must admit..so damn catchy:o

The story I remember most from Primary School is Zacchaeus.

I can remember the tunes to them and all That's what I get for going to a school full of singing nuns. They used to stick melodies to everything. We had a tune for Our Father and did actions and everything to it. A bit like the Macarena really.

The other one i remember was 'the animals went in two by two, hurrah, hurrah'. It was to do with Noah's ark and i learn;t in around senior infants in the early 80's. Can anyone remember it?

Did your teachers make you do the thing where each row would start a song at a different time and it would sound deadly, we were better than the Harlem Gospel Choir when we got going.

We also had a song for our Confirmation and it was 12 pages long. And it was soooo boring!!

I haven't a clue what apostle song You lot are on about though (I obviously wasn't paying attention that day!)

I do remember learning some lord of the dance song when I was about 8 and that featured some apostles in it!

"Dance, dance, wherever you may be, I am the lord of the dance said he. And I lead you all wherever you may be, and I lead you all in the dance said he".
Then there was something about the fishermen apostles and stuff.

I remember loads of the communion and confirmation songs though... "walk in the light" etc etc.

Ah religion time was great old fun, wasn't it? I remember every day at 12 noon, the angelus bell would ring from the church next door, then we'd all stand up and say an our father, then enjoy thirty minutes of hearing all the reasons why our young souls were going to hell. On special days the parish priest would make a guest appearance to add some extra gravitas to the situation. I miss the old Ireland.

That song was stuck in my head for years (literally), especially the drawn out Judas Iscariot part. There was another one our teacher used to play us, 'let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of london...' I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the radio around a year ago, I always thought it was just a religion class song.
