Some fine tracks in group 8 (including two of my own noms) I'd nearly be happy with that being a final round with the exception of 3 or 4 of them. Is there one big madonna fan here or is there more than one? She seems to feature in every round.

3 bottom with zeros and 3 with top 20's.

I've now listened and ranked all 14 Groups and sent them on to Strawbs, so here's a breakdown of my points distributions throughout for those who like stats...

Definitely think overall the first 7 groups were stronger on average than the second lot of groups even though there's still plenty of cracking songs in the second half, and it certainly wasn't a case of saving the best for last since the final group got the lowest scores of the lot

    |20 pts|16 pts|12 pts|8 pts|4 pts|0 pts

Off topic ish - Just watching Nina Simone in concert tonight (I noticed she received a few deserved noms) She did a version of "feelings" a song I completely dislike and it's so raw and organic it's almost uncomfortable to watch but still exceptional - a true artist.

I'm looking forward to listening to the next half of rounds but it might take me all week - Is there a cut off date for rankings Strawbs?

Oddly enough, bar a few exceptions including one of my own nominations, I did not enjoy round 9 at all. It was definitely my least favourite to date.

Oh, interesting, be very interested in updates, if at all possible. Spain will be opening up to tourism soon, but they insist on a 14 day quarantine, how to you supply shop, in a foreign country, where you don’t know the locals, under quarantine.

List 8 was really really good.
Even by my own really high overall points, this list averaged on nearly 15 points, with only one song on single digit points.

    I just like them all!!!

Ugh, Number 10 contains one of my most hatest songs of all time. Like seriously properly allergic to hearing it. >__<; If I could give minus points, I would. And I'd probably have refrained from handing out any zeroes at all previously if I knew this would crop up, because this one deserves the ultimate zero. Absolute zero, if you will.

There's another on that list I strongly dislike as well, which would probably have been a zero if on any other playlist but even that's going to be bumped up to 2 points now because its awfulness is minimised in comparison to the other abomination.

On the plus side there at least six songs here that will score 16 or higher, and there are still a good few I'm not familiar with yet so hopefully there'll be some more high scores too.

Haha I'm trying to guess which song it is you despise so much.

I can't stand most of Pink's music and that song is no exception

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

There's a song in group 10 that I feel the same way about. I don't just want to change station if it comes on the radio in the car, I want to rip the radio out and throw it out the window just to be sure that it'll never be heard again in my car. I wonder if it's the same song?

Found I was giving out a lot less 20s (And also 0s) with playlists 9 through 14.
Probably not a reflection on quality, more fatigue and sub-conscious 'balance'.

Nice to see Crash, boom, bang in there - forgot how much I like that song.

Also trying to think of any obvious/surprising omissions. (Also, after Worst Song Ever was half expecting Jan Terri to show up. Also also just received a new box of italics...)

Can only think of three (omissions) - no Corrs, Aimee Mann or Fiona Apple.

Well it wasn't really meant to be a proper nomination, more a "I should nominate this for the laugh" inclusion. :D. However I rushed my list at the last minute and there were a couple of spaces left, so it seems it made it in. That said, I think it's a great song so I'm glad it was included.

Fiona Apple won my shortlist too, she always seems to miss the cut with these (Criminal didn't get a nod for best 90's or 'One Hit Wonder' song).

The album she released very recently, Fetch The Bolt Cutters, is excellent. This is my favourite track from it, and probably my favourite she's ever done; it's a pretty intense song so I reckon it might divide opinion:

Otherwise the biggest omission from me is probably Sharon Van Etten; if this competition was held in a year's time or so I'd probably have nominated Seventeen but at the time I just felt it was a bit too recent to make the cut.

Was happy that someone nominated Lana Del Rey, though again it's a very recent song that has become my favourite of hers and like Seventeen would have made my final list if a little more time had passed:
