Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My order (Fimi Store on Ali) has been in Belgium for the past week or so and just update to "Handed over in bulk-Final acceptance of goods to be confirmed"

    (Ordered 17th June)

Mine has finally been shipped as well. Ordered on 25th April so looks like it’ll be less than 3 months of a wait. I’m sure it’ll be worth it!

My poor drone went for a swim in the sea this morning due to a battery failure mid-flight. As I love this drone and have loads of accessories for it I am looking to see if anyone has another one that they were contemplating selling?

    Thanks,
    Keith

Hi Keith. What type of drone was it?
Was battery failure due to drone or it was low on capacity

    Hi Pete,

It was a Xiaomi Mi 4K Drone. It started off on 98% battery but, from looking at the flight logs, one of the 4 cells was dropping much quicker than the others and after a couple of minutes in the air the overall battery level dropped from 93% straight down to 0%. The drone immediately commenced an emergency landing that I couldn't override and as it was only a few meters over the sea it only took a few seconds to submerge itself. I was walking alongside as I was escorting it down the (empty) beach but I didn't make it over to it in time. :(

I've safely disposed of the battery since as it was smoking for a while afterwards and has been quite warm all day since so I was waiting for it to spontaneously combust into flames!
I've a separate handheld gimbal for the camera and it seems to be completely dead now.
The drone attempts to boot but beeps and flashes but refuses to come on.
I could probably attempt some cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and deionised water but it would be a big job and I have a feeling it's beyond repair. Some parts may be salvageable though.

Anyway, as I have lots of props, another battery, a camera cover, the handheld gimball and even a spare IMU I reckoned it would make sense to try and source another one if I could. There are a few floating around on ebay but they don't have a camera. There are also new ones still available on sale on banggood for €399 plus delivery but it would be another €150 on top of that probably in duties and I'd have to wait a few weeks to get it.

I'm also looking at other options but this was a good balance between reasonable budget and reasonable quality (apart from the battery obviously!) However, if anyone has other suggestions I'm open to considering something else. The Fimi X8 SE might be another option I suppose or a secondhand Phantom 3 but reluctant to drop down from 4K...

    Hi.
Have you sent flight log to support. They shud be able to see what happened and recognise failure in battery and hopefully replace your drone for you.

Just wondering but would people here recommend this or the DJI Mavic Mini? Thinking about getting one, or another option if there's another brand/model that's better, around the €400-500 price point.

I will try that but it is over two years old so presumably past any guarantee period and I don't think they cover anything outside China anyway. I get an error uploading the flight logs from the app but I found them on the phone and have sent them on anyway. I'm not holding out much hope but it's worth a try I suppose. Thanks for the tip!

Got a reply from Fimi today...
Since the item is out of production for more than 2 years, i'm afraid we have no way to help you for the crash.

As I said, worth a try but no joy...

How was the packaging and the condition of the box and drone. Seen a lot of complaints about the ones coming from China warehouse being banged up and drones sometimes damaged.
Getting mine on Monday. Away for a few days staycation so had to postpone today’s delivery. Typical spend the last 3 months at home waiting for it and the minute I go away it arrives 😀😀😀

Mine was the commercial package, inside a large bubblewrap single later envelope wrapped in tape.

Box had a very slight dent, on 1 corner.
Have received stuff in far worse condition and not at all a ding if worry about.

Mine was boxed in a normal plastic bag type packaging with no bubble wrap or anything, a couple of minor little dents on the box, but that's expected with no bubble wrap, Drone is perfect visually. Waiting for a fine day to take it for a spin..

Mine is now at the PostNL sorting center, 14 days after landing at Liege .. so I'm guessing that was the 2 weeks Corona isolation

So AliExpress tracker says "Last Mile Carrier" but PostNL tracker now says "The item is on transport to the country of destination" with last update yesterday. So I guess its not in Ireland yet.

    Ordered on June 20th.

While I've being focused on my connection issues between RC and drone, got rectified thanks to FB group of same, I noticed that the green led wasn't flashing but on further inspection and comparison I noticed a bigger gap on the arm compared to other one... FB group advise not to fly it as it'll crash. 3 months waiting for this... FML....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,933 ✭✭✭✭banie01

Sorry to hear of your troubles MorganIRL.

I finally got around to actually giving mine a spin this morning.
Very pleased with the performance. Really smooth flying and surprisingly quick if not in beginners mode.

Remember to start of slow and learn how to use the software.
I'm going to spend the day flying around my garden and annoying my dog :pac:

Has anybody taken their drone on a flight? I assume it needs to be taken as carry on... I have the mi drone 4k and the backpack style case, is there a limit to the number of spare batteries that I can bring?

Never taken my mi drone abroad, the last time I had 3 battery packs for the mavic air with me in carry on with no issues.

Well I decided not to wait for banggood to get back to me, if ever, and done the baking soda and super glue option which was suggested in FB grp of drone. Done a test fly and it didn't fall from the sky. I'll attach a pic of what it looked like before I glued. What I will say it's a savage drone for someone that wants it for the craic. I'm only a hobbyist but it's so easy to fly and I never had a drone before.

Maybe it was damaged in transit? That looks like it took a heavy shock, very disappointing that it's cracked that badly..

Anyway, glad you're happy with it, the technology is amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these..

Going on from my earlier post re: damage. Does anyone know if replacement arms can be gotten. Can't seem to source them from my general search. Can anyone point me towards a more specific site, cause I'm sure my soda and glue trick won't work if I/when I crash

    Maybe here - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33016095398.html
    or here - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000173343864.html

The first are for the 2020 model, but iirc all of the fimi x8 models use the same.
