Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I guess we'll be having busloads of refugees from the rest of the country up here soon (not trainloads, due to the lack of tracks in Donegal). Time to put up the barbed wire..

Build the wall, Mexico and Dublin can pay it.

The media seem to be totally confusing the public with regards to storm emma, with the Irish Independant stating the 'Beast from the East' has been named storm emma, and twitter latest now shows 'Storm emma is already raging over europe why isnt anything here'. *Sigh*

Has been sunny in North Kildare all day. Dark clouds now approaching from the east. Sun will disappear in ~5 minutes and then......?

And it's begun. Heavy snow & hail has started in Leixlip. Paths & roads white within 2-3 minutes.

2deg C (and falling) in Roscommon and the first light flurry of snow just falling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,183 ✭✭✭Eoineo

In Balbriggan area (North Dublin). Have been getting a pasting for the past 20 minutes & it's sticking. I suspect it's more due to the volume than the ground temps and we might get a slight thaw ahead of the real deal later.

As temperatures fall toward freezing this evening it won't take much for graupel and snow to settle.

There will be heavy showers but you won't actually need them to be particularly heavy to give accumulations.

As we seem to be giving out thanks, could we say thanks to other regular posters such as MT, Kermit, JCX BCX, Gaoth Laidir, Sryan, MJohnston, Weathercheck and everybody else who has been giving regular updates in both the technical thread and been posting in here and helping people like me learn so much about reading weather charts over the week or two.

Also thanks to the mods so far for working overtime on keeping threads in check as best as they can and keeping everything running as smoothly as they are! Busy time!

Are you surprised? Storm emma raging in europe and seeing exceptional pictures of rome covered in snow sounds cool, its why they made it their headline, doubt they thought about it very much beyond that:P

Watching the satellite loop for the last half an hour - even in just those 30 minutes there's been plenty of cloud bubbling up South of the IOM - also can see a 'shadow' forming with more clouds bubbling up to the North of the IOM and the dreaded clear slot forming in between. Wonder will we see any radar returns start cropping up in the next while as a result.

Any chance this could be put in basic terms. Don't know TAFs all that well

    =================================

First Line; issued at 1700 on 27th and valid from 1800 on 27 to 1800 on 28th
giving an ENE (070) wind direction at 15 kts.
Visibility is > 10km (9999) with some cloud at 1200 ft, 2000 ft and 3500 ft

Then a 30% probability from 1800 to 2300 of 3000mts vis and snow showers with low cloud at 1000 ft and Cumulonimbus with a 1500 ft base.

30% prob 0000 to 1200 of and ENE wind of 16kts gusting 28kts with 2000 mts vis and snow showers with cloud base at 1000ft and Cb base 1500 ft.

    and

30% prob between 0000 and 0800 on 28th of vis of 1000 ft and snow showers with a base of 500 ft and the wind becoming (BECMG) E'ly 20kts gusting 35 kts

and 30% prob between 1200 and 1800 tomorrow of 3000 mt vis and Snow showers with cloud doen to 1000 ft and Cb base down to 1800 ft.

Al in all typical of a showery set up; TEMPO meaning temporarily i.e. passing showers in which the wind picks up, becomes gusty and there is some lower cloud below the bottom of the Cbs.

I think I have covered it all.Perhaps a more knowledgeable person can correct any errors!

FEW SCTD and BKN refer to the amount of cloud in Oktas, need to check out specific meaning but its not that important;I think OVC overcast is the other one.

Is howth kinda marginal given the closeness of the sea?
