Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    😂 this is too funny….

I posted a comment on a US social media site under a video that a person posted. My comment was subsequently reported, removed and I received a message of censure all be it I don’t think I got a formal warning ! Yet…!

my comment was regarding a man who was doing one of the most dangerous jobs on earth whilst partaking in smoking a cigarette.

however I ultimately carelessly ( it seems ) have violated the ‘community guidelines’ and sensibilities of some thick cûnt(s), by referring to the cigarette as… * drum roll *….. a….’fag’…. The user and moderator obviously both agree that it was ‘hateful’ speech which is what I’ve been censured and censored for….

are people really that fûcking dumb, in any English speaking territory ? To misunderstand or misinterpret a comment about a man clearly smoking a cigarette and a user who uses the word fag ?! I just googled the word ‘fag’…. The first result is…to link to the Collins English dictionary to describe a cigarette. So I’m not going mad, or madder, anyway…. People are trying their best though 🙈🤌🏻

It doesn't mean cigarette in America and it is offensive there. Unfortunately, it's a case of knowing your audience.

I'm happy it's cooler this morning.

Dentist provided a complementary treatment. I finished up my consultation, went to the waiting area where I was awaiting his PA to print up my next appointment… I get called up, I’m handed the appointment card, i proffered the 90 euros and she just shakes her head, “he’s said this is complimentary today “…… I’ve paid him the price of a decent new car over the years and I doubt it’s noticeable in his busy accounts but he didn’t need to, suppose it shows that business is appreciated and his work and that of his team certainly is from my perspective….

subsequently to the Grand Hotel in Malahide, where I haven’t been for a while, amazing refurbishment job in the restaurant , sublime food, kind and attentive service….. not inexpensive but I’ve no issues paying for food and service of that quality in such comfortable and plush surroundings….

Watching the documentary😥 Vicky Whelan was in before she passed away. 😪

Part of it showed the proceedings in the Dáil and in the inquiry. The look on Marylou's face as she listened to Leo waffle on while all the time being a smug git was, imo priceless(one of the classic "one more word out of you" type looks) The calmer but no less angry face on Collette's Connolly was a study.

A strange thing to be th about but I love to see that kind of real feeling in politics.

Honourable mention goes to Allan Kelly, who looked genuinely upset about what he was hearing in the enquiry.

Drove into an estate in one of the most densely populated areas, It has mature trees and more green spaces than I have seen in similar builds that are more recent.

Th, 1. Just inside the turn was a mobile goal post, I told it lives there and the kids move it to wherever they wanted it and back for the others to use.

Th 2, further down there are so mature trees and the girls have put up some rope swings and one of the residents donated a folding table they can use for whatever.

Th3, in a different but adjacent green space which is cleared a bit, there are basketball hoops, which also belong to the residents association.

I loved to see the community pull together like that,

Went to a yoga class this morning with a teacher I haven't been to in over a year. Forgot how much I loved her voice! And she read some beautiful pieces while we were relaxing at the end. Was perfect!

Went shopping this morning. Arrived home and just as I was unloading the shopping, a DPD van pulled up with a delivery.

If I arrived any later, I'd have missed it as there was no-one else home.

I have the height measurements of my little niece and nephew on one of my kitchen walls, they live abroad so are not over often. Everytime I look down at the wall I laugh.

But not because of their heights - it is because there are lot of faded pencil scribbles just above the skirting board. The place where the little miss herself insisted on 'measuring' 'Sheepy', the cuddly toy.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

We have a thread here in After Hours about old Irish dramas. May have been produced decades ago and having the likes of a young Gabriel Byrne or young Colin Farrell when they were not so famous.

But alas some of these are near impossible to get these days. Never mind DVD even a VHS could not be found.

I remember a masterful production on RTE in 1998 about the 1798 rebellion. Cathal O´Shannon (you young ones may not remember him 😋) was narrator. I wanted to watch this again for years and years. I emailed RTE several years ago but I got no reply pah! I was quite happy to pay for a DVD set, wasn't looking for a freebie. I love history and this was a superb production

My TH is I go on youtube and someone uploaded it on August 19th so a month ago. I was looking for this for 20 years! I saw a thread tonight in After Hours and tried Youtube and it's there.

    Timing is perfect huzzah!

That there are still people who care enough about strangers to pick up lost things like hats and gloves, and put them on a wall or hang them on a fence so they're visible.

I even saw a hubcap today, picked up and put gently against the wall so its visible from the road, in case its owner is looking for it. Havent seen that in yonks.

I saw a pair of man's shoes on a wall. I'm not sure how someone could lose their shoes and not notice, unless they changed them to go for a walk?

Anyway, they were left in a visible place.

After losing sleep during the week, with the dread of doing this task today I tried on most of my formal wear.

Most will not have been worn in 5 years min and the latest are expensive(for my budget)! except for some buttons and hems need adjusting they all still fit.

Some steps still to go but this is a weight off for when I'll need this type of clothing closer to Christmas.

Had to cancel my upcoming nights away, I tried to cancel the train ticket online but got a non-sensical error message.

My heart sank when I was directed to their phone CS service, call was picked up after 2 rings and cancellation message arrived before I hung up

Told my boss that I really hope to leave on time because of the coming storm. Boss looks out the window, says “it’s nice out now, just go”. Didn’t need to be told twice. I got to the bus stop just as my bus arrived, and I even got a seat. Wonders never cease.

My phone browser restarted and I lost about 25 tabs I've had open for months for various reasons.. Some things I wanted to go back and read when I got more time, or something I was interested in buying and was keeping an eye on. Lost them all.

I feel so free now though. Feels like a fresh start. 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,580 ✭✭✭✭cj maxx

I do that. I leave tabs open to do when I’ve more time . Its great just to close them

Was passing through Victoria station on Thursday and someone gave me a free Pepsi Max. Not overly fond of the stuff but a freebie is a freebie.
