Just finished it, it’s certainly the best of the marvel group
I liked like cafe up until the last season it kind of lost its way
Iron fist is hard work to watch the acting is just crap
Daredevil remained solid throughout and enjoyable to watch and nicely built up for season 4

    The internet isn’t for everyone

I was reading today that while they don't have official figures from Netflix, the viewership dropoff is approx 50% from last season according to analytics firm Jumpshot...
Iron Fist was over 70% of a drop off

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I'd love to know how they come to those figures, given Netflix closely guard their actual numbers. Presumably it's some variation of the Nielsen box and just monitor a sample then extrapolate, but does feel like optimidtic guesswork at best.

It's a bit more than that, Jumpshot tracks device usage, notes times, they can track keywords on twitter and other social media...big brother is watching

Watching Daredevil at the moment, think this season is better than season 2. Episode 10 all about Karen’s past was very interesting and also very sad. The girl has been through a lot.

In the comics her story arc is fairly extreme. The episode touches on a lot of it but in reverse.

What do u mean in reverse?

I don’t know anything about the comics, is this story based on a comic?

Yes, Daredevil is a Marvel comic.
In reverse as in the comics, her partying and issues happen as part of a plot by Kingpin to uncover DD's identity.
In the TV series it is flipped to happen before she reaches New York and give character background.

Season 3 is based on the DD rebirth storyline, it's a great adaptation of it for TV.

Sorry Daredevils rebirth is it, sorry I actually can’t really remember what happened in Season 2, he nearly died and went into hiding is it?

The whole "Ace Reporter Karen" subplot hasn't got any better in season 3; alongside The Hand, that's one element I wish they also consigned to the bin. It's all so achingly earnest and cliché, ticking every box in the list of tropes but played without any self awareness to make it work.

Karen is the worst part of the show for me. In general I wish Netflix would stop doing flashback episodes, the Karen one was badly placed and killed momentum going into Daredevil vs Bullseye in the church.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,917 ✭✭✭nix

I liked the Karen flashback, it fills in the blanks to her past and for me, also gave a sense of dread, in that its placement, i thought something bad was going to happen to her, either her be killed or sent spiraling with something terrible happening to her or people close to her.

So, by the end, nothing really happened to her (this time), it worked as a sleight of hand of sorts, for me anyway. Maybe in the future..

I think it will be a long while before we see her gone, and im all for it, shes pretty much the only constant female presence in the show, i dont find her annoying at all, plus shes hot
    :P
Also, shes the only living connection Dex knows of that will draw out Daredevil, so shes in very dangerous crosshairs for any future seasons
    :pac:

    Does Dex know Daredevil's identity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,917 ✭✭✭nix

He doesn't, as far as i recall, Kingpin figured it out and kept it to himself, he just started toying with Matt Murdock and used the people he loved against him, its funny, just realizing, thats exactly what Matt does in the end, threatens the person Fisk cares for the most to win.
    :pac:

2 episodes into season 3 and it's top stuff so far!

Finished this last night. For me it has replaced Legion as the best Superhero TV show. They really elevated the action scenes this season. The prison scene, Daredevil V Bullseye Rd1 and Kingpin/Daredevil/Bullseye being standouts. Huge improvement with Foggy and Page as well, it was great seeing them have something to actually do rather than just being Matt’s annoying friends. It would be a real shame if this was to get canned because the show has done a terrific job and has established a great ensemble, so good in fact I think this could easily translate to the big screen. I think the standard here may give Disney/Netflix a headache, it’s clear to me that both want this deal to end, but how do you cancel something this good? This show really is the gold standard of Superhero TV shows.

    Episode 4!
The Prison Fight! Damn that escalated quickly!

Also I remember the films and
Colin Farrel playing yer man .. Bullseye was it?
    I'm starting to think that
poindexter is going to be Bullseye
    Hrmmmm...

The stuff in your spoiler is correct :)

I thought the ending of this was brutal. Very disappointed with it. But the scrap before it was decent.
I know the whole season is about DD psyching himself up to kill and the struggle with good and evil....but a f*cking handshake and a promise.

I thought it was drawn out in some places as well, maybe it wasn't dark enough or something. Nadeem ended up looking like a bumbling idiot rather than someone struggling with being pulled in different directions.

Also, a big plot line is getting the painting back, and the end scene is centered around it. At least give us a wide angle of the blood splatter on it with Kingpin in front of it!

Overall, good action, great fight scene, good story, but not gripping enough and a sh*tty end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭De Bhál

loved it, I'm not a big superhero fan (if that's what you'd call him) but really like this show.

Fight scene in the prison was something else.
Kingpins has got some screen presence.

    His Mom!

    Episode 9! Well, looks like
everything is in place. Things about to get nasty!

Episode 12 really packs a punch!

    Season Finale next!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

Finished. Great season overall. So many moments where I was like: WHAT?!? No Way?!!? But Way! Definitely way!

Still the top of the Marvel Netflix shows.

The story was just so intricate and interwoven and full of surprises! Plus, I can't remember anything that felt like they ignored. Even at the end there with
    Foggy giving up the DA
    .

D'Onofrio was just made for Kingpin! What a role!

There's gotta be another season (
    or more!!
). We'll have to see more
    Kingpin/Vanessa and probably separately Bullseye
    . I guess his
mother will be his spiritual guide and maybe help to ground him against his past
    .

    So anyway..

Just catching up on the thread. I held off watching trailers cos I was behind on Luke Cage and Iron First. Kinda glad. Feels like some big reveals were given away. Like,
Dex using the costume felt like a reveal to me
    .

    Then this:
Just reading the fight in episode 4 was 10 minute 43 second one take continuous shot.

    That is seriously impressive.
    Skerries wrote: »
I was like... 'oooooohhhh' cos I thought that scene looked weary and that they had run outta money or something. Now it makes sense :)

Karens flashback was good. It did throw me off because the previous episode was a bit of a cliffhanger but it grew on me. Her story was compelling and kinda showed that since her younger years, she seems to have grown more patient!

So the only thing about the story I haven't seen mentioned was: Vanessa
I can't be the only person who saw
her at a distance operating around kingpin in the same way he operated around his pawns? Now they're hitched and she's on the outside with control of his assets. Like they even threw the kingpin jacket around her for the ending

    Finally..

So like... is there a Jessica Jones coming soon or what's next? :)

The one take sequence was pretty fantastic; props to the production team for managing it without CGI at all.

One detail I always quite liked about Daredevil was how knackered, and visibly tired combatants became as fights wore on. Felt like it gave more weight and heft watching Murdock flag, but persist all the same.

  • Registered Users Posts: 544 ✭✭✭Greyjoy

Finished the season over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Big step up from from S2. I think D'onofrio has made Kingpin my favourite of all the Marvel onscreen villains. Now it wasn't without flaws - it took a few episodes for the story to properly kick into gear and sometimes it stretched credulity how much control Kingpin had over everything or everyone. The Karen flashback episode was poorly placed within the overall arc of the show - the episode itself was good background stuff for her but it absolutely killed the momentum of the cliffhanger from the church.

Two small niggles for me about the finale -
I wanted to see Matt back in the Daredevil outfit to show how he had reclaimed the Daredevil identity from Dex. Just a final rooftop shot of him back in the outfit would have sufficed. Dex should have properly adopted the 'Bullseye' nickname - the eyeball insignia was very lacklustre.

I'd say why they didnt do any of that was so they could focus on it more next season. :)

Bullseye with Daredevil fight scenes were intense. The transformation of Bullseye involved great storytelling and compelling backstory.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Didn't pull me in like the previous seasons, but top quality tv nonetheless!!

Hit episode 10, and yeah, the intermission with Karen was both dull and rushed at the same time. A backstop hastily assembled yet unasked for.

Season up to this point though has been excellent, hope for once a Marvel Netflix show can stick the landing

I kinda liked Karen's back story. Added context to the damaged character who had kind of annoyed me up to that point over the series to date!

Unsurprisingly, it has been canceled. Just leaves The Punisher and Jessica Jones left. As said in another thread I wish they'd just get on with these announcements and not drag it all out. It's obvious Netflix / Disney want this arrangement nuked.

Outside of the Disney context though, Netflix are pretty cancelation happy in general, so I theorise that even if Disney weren't angling for their own service, there's a good chance Daredevil & co. were in for the chop anyway. Bar a few exceptions, Netflix love axing shows.

Yeah, Disney are certainly pulling all their IP back in for their own streaming service. just wait until they announce their new Star Wars series (The Mandalorian?) is going to be on their own streaming service only. They have such a huge pool of properties now that their streaming service could work: Star Wars, Marvel, all ABC shows, ESPN, The Muppets, potentially Fox. It would make sense for them to pull them all in house and off of the competition's services.

This has nothing to do with costs or viewers/ratings etc. Jessica Jones and The Punisher "Cancellation" will be announced very soon I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,191 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Can't see a reason to cancel bar Disney want to jump ship to their own service where this show is concerned not so much on Luke Cage or Ironic Fist, if it has been cancelled just for the sake of it queue a Lucifer esque crusade #savedevil2.0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Yeah. Unless Disney are going to uncancel the shows and make more for their own service it just seems a case if "I don't want it but I don't want someone else to have it either".

Which I assume they aren't planning to do?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

Disney want to make their own marvel content, such as a Loki show.
It's a shame that Daredevil, Luke Cage and Ironfist had to be axed due to this sh*t.
Is there another Jessica Jones or Punisher filmed already?

Punisher is filmed, JJ is currently in production AFAIK

Cool, I'd expect them to be the last.
I wonder if they will be all condensed into The Defenders just to condense all the shows into 1.

I have to believe that these will return on a Disney streaming service , they have invested so much time and effort in creating this universe and certainly parts of it where performing well .

Yeah plus im sure Disney wont wanna be hearing things like "This show was much better when Netflix done it" and the likes.. Plus they would wanna tone down the violence and make Matt Murdock a black asian transvestite or something :P:pac:

Whats odd IMO, is that the cancellation was announced on the day the #RenewDaredevil campaign was due to kick off.

Is there any danger of this disappearing from Netflix anytime soon? The reason I ask is I just got Netflix recently and I've just started watching Daredevil and the Punisher. There's not much point continuing to watch them if they disappear when I'm halfway through the first series!

Nah i strongly doubt it, id say they will be there forever, im sure why netflix aren't confirming the reasons about the shows cancellations is because they dont want to burn any bridges with Disney. Keep your enemies close and all that :D

I think one more season of The Punisher is all we'll get as can't see a third season of it or JJ in the future seeing DD, the most popular of the Marvel shows got canned.

So, assuming that Disney are pulling these shows from Netflix for their own platform, I wonder what will happen to the existing actors/crew? Were they tied to their shows or were they tied to Netflix. Would be strange to see others in the role on Disney.
